    Ok, so there is quite possibly a 'Techbot Alpha' on the NA side.
    My Global is Techbot ALPHA, with capitals. Will that make a difference?
    Also, by the looks of it, that is hardly an active account, although I have no idea in-game wise.

    Just....frag it. I like the server list merger! We've asked for it for frag alone knows how long!
    And yet I don't want to lose my damn name. Its MY name

    Character names are one thing, often when people simply fail at creativity and cannot be bothered to go a little further to find a name thats usually just as good sounding, and probably don't sound as cliched.

    Global names? Thats a whole other kettle of fish.

    Right?

    p.s. The forums being what they are, I'm guessing if there wasn't NA trials with the globals of certain people in this thread, I'm betting there is now.
    And I'm sure if the situations were reversed, there'd be nothing, calm silence as everyone accepted it instantly and carried on as if nothing had happened, with the serene sound of birdsong in the background as everyone skipped off into the sunset....

    Oh, wait.

    And @p.s. My point exactly. People ARE that damn trollish. Trial accounts should not be counted for this. End of.

I wouldn't have initiated the merge before technology to make that restriction possible was created.
    ^ I like this. I like this a lot.

    EU has the smaller player count so you guys get the short end on this.
    So, because you got stung once, you want the exact same thing to happen to a whole bunch of other people?

    Wow. Nice to see such consideration around here...

    A similar thing happened when CoH launched, with the whole name reservation thing. A bunch of long time forum users/beta testers lost out on the names they had had for several years.
    If Trial Accounts were actually taken into, heh, account for this, then I would seriously begin to question the logic and reasoning of the people behind this decision, and just how badly they wanted to troll the EU players.

    Again, I do apologize to the players who stand to be inconvenienced by this, however when all possible variables were factored in, we feel this was the proper decision to make.

    If they are no longer in-game or are not active, then that is one of the sacrifices they should be ready to deal with.

    Put it this way; an active long term player should take precedence over someone who is not active.

    If it's an account that has lapsed, that is something that comes with allowing lapses. That was always true for name clearance in the past, the closest analogue to this I can think of.

    If its a trial account, odds are they aren't coming back anway, and Trials in general should NOT be counted for this. That just causes so many potential problems.

    If the person has changed their email, surely it should be updated on the NC account. If they changed their email since then and didn't change their account one to match, then that really is their problem.

    Don't be silly. That'd make too much sense! And why would they take away an option where you have to pay them twice?

    /sarcasm

    Please understand, we spent a lot of time reviewing possibilities and options when it came to handling accounts and globals with naming collisions. Pretty much all of the options mentioned above were discussed and weighed seriously in the decision making process. This was not an easy decision to make.

    When making this decision, we had to realize that whatever solution we implemented would have to be explained to every player who ever decided to return to the game. Unfortunately a first come/first serve rule wouldn't be the easiest to explain, nor would it be the most fair to enforce. Date of account creation creates an additional collision possibility. Ultimately, we decided that the most direct, and easiest to understand method to accomplish this is to simply rename the accounts.

    Again, I do understand preemptive frustration, especially if you are one of the few players actually effected by this policy. I sincerely hope that should you be effected you will view this as a minor bump in the road to creating a truly global Community.
    Why not email (both account and in-game, since @Global Emails will work on every character) inactive accounts to explain things?

    Put it this way, IF I lose my Global to some in-active account US side, after this long being Techbot Alpha and all that....well, of course I'm going to be ticked off!

    'Easiest to understand' should not be the basis for this, I feel. Customer and players satisfaction should be.
    Along with maybe, just once, proving that the EU actually matters, rather than getting the short end of the straw every time...
  12. And that is why 'Fairness' comes into accunt, Arcana, because why should someone who has been around for years lose out to someone who joined last month?
  13. Tyger's post pretty much solves it. Rather than the current method.

    We have endeavored to have serial codes continue to work as they have before Global Server Access. However, it is possible that some codes may be affected as part of the transition. If a code fails to apply to your City of Heroes account, contact Customer Support (North American or European) and they will be able look into it. Please note that codes will still not be interchangeable. For instance, a European code will not be usable on a North American account or vice versa.
    And this....this just makes NO sense whatsoever.
    Seriously?
  15. ........
    What.
    The.
    Hell?

    Why does the EU and the EU only get shafted with this?

    Seriously, the hell with this man! That is NOT cool!
  16. More thoughts;

    Nicholas Tennant wasn't any good as Nobby in Hogfather.
    Again, Kidby does the best (and to my mind accurate) rendition;

    Fred Colon would be a hard one. Nick Frost, as someone mentioned could pass for the body shape and looks....not so sure about the voice. I always think Colon would have a middle-deep voice, not Frost's quite high one...Hmn.

    Still wish they'd stick to Kidby's renditions of the Trolls, too;

  17. Not heard of Trevor Eve before, but he looks like he could pull off Vimes.
    Laurie bloody could. He's got the scathing, dark sarcasm that Vimes deploys so well.

    Jeremy Irons and Charles Dance both played Vatinari/The Patrician (in Irons' case) spectacularly well, although Dance would need to dye his hair this time around.
    Aparently Terry has him down as 'should be played by Alan Rickman', though? (Wikipedia) Hmm.

    Despite being made overly pale and nowhere near as warm (if still a tad spiky) a character as she is in the books, Ingrid Berdal played Angua well in Going Postal.
    (Such a shame I hated what they did with it. It was truly an adaption, very far removed from the quality of the book.)

    Pemberton, while a good actor, didn't cut it as Drumbknott IMO. Too round, not skinny and wiry enough. Drumbknott is definitely a character that can glide when they move.
    Not sure who the hell they'd get there.

    ((Anyone who has not seen Paul Kidby's Pratchett Portfolio should go and do so. Aside from Agnes Nitt, he portrays pretty much all the characters near spot on perfectly.))

    Christ...why can't I get a job like that? Making the books for TV/Film? I wish I could have taken a degree in Pratchett, heh heh...

    "Oh, I need to face this dinosaur tearing my backside off, oh look I need to turn 360 degrees using the left/right button very slowly-" *Dead*

    Fixed camera angles, clunky movement, terrible targetting, enemies that killed you easily simply because it was so damn hard to react in time thanks to terrible controls...!

    Are you one of those Plank Monks from Monty Pythong, Sam? The ones in Holy Grail who smack themselves repeated in the forehead with planks of wood?

    Yeah...Having just run that mission recently I can say you're very wrong indeed...

    Personally? Hoping that the Omega Slot is a fully customisable 'Signature' Attack/Power. If anything deserves to be made into a proper signature move, that does. And frag alone knows people have asked for them enough. Theres even a stickied thread about it, for crying out loud.

    A second Alpha, while cool, would sit pretth badly as the 'Ultimate' Slot IMO.
  21. I have one thing to say to those touting the VEAT 'Storyline';

    LOLBrainstorm!

    That is all.
  22. The Mustang trawled lazily along the road, simply following the traffic through - he checked the map - Galaxy City, before moving on into Kings Row.

    And then he heard it. The high pitched, mechanised roar, the sounds of explosions, shouting and chaos.
    "Oh please, if theres any justice in the univerese, tell me that isn't Dynobots gone nuts..."

    As Quicksilver sped up, jinking through traffic towards the sounds of devastation, he was at least proved correct. What he found, however, wasn't much better.
    "Giant Craboid? Great. Just great. Sure couldn't find a welcome wagon with a nice explanation and a howdy-do, huh?"

    Still, the thing was causing havoc, that much was clear. As Quicksilver sped up, certain parts flipped over, swapping stock symbols with one a little different...

    That bolded part just sounds like "Join Cole OR find new incarnate powers" to me.
    And we only get one of those two options.

    For people citing 'motivation', I guess the following character shouldnt exist;

    -Mindwiped Loyalist pawns
    -Semi-controlled Imperial Agents
    -Those who are as blindly loyal to Coles rule as Arachnos soldiers are to Recluse (We get to play one of them, after all)
    -Clockwork. ANY Clockwork that are still obeying original programming.
  24. *Crosses fingers and mumbles*
    Battalion, Battalion, Battalion....
  25. Still think that States and Recluse suffer some of the worst writing in-game at the moment.

    Personally, and in any fiction which I've nabbed the Lord of Many Arms for use, Recluse has always struck me much more as a super-powered, slightly colder Lord Vetinari from Terry Pratchett.

    But, eh...I'd need to work at Paragon to fix that
