The problem you are experiencing is that you are just reinforcing your rogue status. What you need to do is head over to Paragon City and do HERO tips there, not in the Rogue Isles.

It's the flaw of a GLOBAL permission tied directly to SG Rank, with no fine tuning possible.

*IF* the Edit Permission were something granted by the same User Interface used for Storage Racks on a Room by Room basis ... then the "mass appeal" of base building would grow by leaps and bounds. Rather than "risking everything" by granting permission to edit ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING in an SG base by a Global Permission ... instead you could designate *some* rooms as "sandbox rooms" where people could experiment and LEARN how to use the Editor without risking the entire Base being given over to a Griefer.

The Mass Appeal of Base Editing is THERE ... it's just that the security system to preserve that which should not be destroyed is totally inadequate to the task of offering reassurance to people who "control" the editing of Bases now.
That is a great idea and one I've not seen. It doesn't cause data storage problems of individual lairs (one of the reasons that I've heard that the developers are against them) and it provides a reason for people to assemble in groups in the first place.

Adding an interface to the market, tailor or trainers would be, in my opinion, the next logical step in bringing players back into their base.

When players start spending more time in the base then they will care what it looks like, and possibly start to ask for some of the more decorative items to be added to the editor.
This has been suggested many times before, but it wouldn't hurt to bring it up again.

So my point. Every time someone starts out their post/premise/idea with "I know only a small part of the community will benefit but..." they are shooting themselves in the foot.
    Sadly, the numbers don't lie.

How many people in your group are base builders? I can say that in a group that is now down to 15, only 2 are. Before, when we had 30 members, the number was double that in my group: 4 players.

The numbers get worse for large groups, where it might be 3-4 of 150 characters (possibly only one player) allowed to edit bases. Does that show "mass appeal"?

    Base Committee Forming???

I can tell you from my time with the City Scoop, working with the Community Reps, and a couple of betas the following is happening:

Players are giving the information to the community reps who are bringing it up in the meetings. So, yes, this is being done. Players do have the attention of someone who can bring the problems to the developers.

On the flip side, I have to ask everyone what they are willing to do to make bases more popular?
    • Do you have a contest idea that could attract more players to base building?
    • Would you open base construction to more players?
    • How about sharing a tip that you found useful while base building?
    • Would you be willing to host tours of your base?
    • Can you say how many of your in game friends would make a personal lair?
    • Would seeing new textures for floors/walls/ceilings show that the developers are working on bases or would that just get you more upset that some other aspect of bases was ignored?
A last thought as I'm typing this: While players would like the developers to acknowledge what players see wrong with bases, can you say what was "right" about bases? I'd imagine that they are getting sick and tired of "this is wrong" and would like some of "this is what you did right".

Funny. The boogeyman of hoarding hasn't been proven and the promised revisit to the 30 Item salvage cap hasn't occurred in 2.5 years since Issue 13 was in beta.

    A. In short, the market. The market system is designed to have a steady supply of salvage coming in. If large salvage racks were added, it would create a temporary supply problem of unknown duration until the salvage racks filled up.

Since having salvage temporarily dry up would be a big problem for all players, this number was intentionally kept low. Once the impact on the markets as a whole can be measured, we will look at adjusting these numbers again.
Remember that guy? The temporary spokesperson for Bases on the development team. That post was made 11-20-2008.

Actually a bunch of people have complained about this on this side of the Atlantic too. Personally I blame web development staff that don't know what they are doing for this. That is my professional opinion as a web developer. It is a TRIVIAL change as they know the code ranges & what they are actually selling, and to leave the display as "perk" just screams incompetence.

I may not know how the game is coded, but I DO know MySQL and server side coding. The fact that the accounts site is in Perl means that the display isn't that hard to do.

Okay to put things into perspective here, I have one scrapper that has made an uncommon musculature boost. After talking to a few friends about my build, one of the builds suggested had a strong suggestion that it would be better to use the nerve tree. Another build came with the suggestion that any Alpha would work with it. If I just relied on the one build, I'd have to start over. With the second I could build that build up, while still using the musculature tree and over time build up the nerve tree in preparation of using the other build.

Looking at it one way, I've wasted my time with the musculature. Looking at it another way, I'm just going to end up being more versatile.

Then don't. On the other hand don't complain that you, with full knowledge of your actions, built a specific Alpha Boost. Caveat Emptor. The stats are there. The "prices" are there for everyone to see. Buying a specific boost requires, at minimum 4-5 user actions to process beyond running certain content. More if shard->component conversion is needed.

The game doesn't need to protect players from their own mistakes.

More to the point: Can you break down IOs or Powers in this game? Why should this be any different? Soon you'll be able to break down unused components, but not fully crafted powers/abilities.

Who said you HAVE to run the TF of the week over and over again? That has nothing to with the suggestion. You usually don't resort to ad-hominems to prove your point, so why this time?

    (A) I don't buy that argument at all. Every tree has something useful for every character. Every single tree. Accuracy, Damage, Recharge, End Reduction. Those are just the four core stats. A 45% bonus (2/3rds unaffected by E.D.) to one aspect, and 33% to two other aspects is good (not spetacular, but good) bonus. By not swapping, you aren't fully using the system.

    (B) is a personal choice. What you are stating is also wrong. I have 6 level 50s that I use. Maybe not as much as this one, but I use them.

    Edit:
It also ignores using a different Alpha for different builds.

What do you guys think... give us the ability to breakdown an unused alpha for X amount of shards?
No. They alphas are designed to be swapped out. Personally, I intend (on at least one character), to build ALL the Alpha trees. The idea of "sticking to one tree" is a complete waste of the system.

I don't know if anyone in the EU servers collide, but I've minimized the chances for a collision. Oh, and my second account is frequently inactive. However I don't think that should be much of an issue.

To my knowledge, the "regular" CoH was never released to Europe. On the other hand the box copy in Europe was the CoH DVD Edition, so you got the Prestige Cape and Power Slide.

If you couldn't get a hold of the CoV CE in game goodies, I've been trying (unsuccessfully) to convince NCsoft to release a booster that had all the in game stuff from both CoH CE DVD and CoV CE DVD. I've been doing so even though (and because) I have both add-ons already.

I think I've might have seen the AE edition once in stores, and I only found the Going Rogue box because I specifically pre-ordered it.

As to marketing, I can tell you from experience that outside of the US, the game isn't really marketed at all. And even there a succession of bad deals has usually come back to bite the game.

The Good Vs. Evil Edition was initially an exclusive deal with Wal*Mart USA (not Canada). For 6 months the complaints were resounding on these boards.

The Architect Edition could barely be found, even up to the time Going Rogue came out.

The Gamestop promotion was a nightmare and I think Gamestop got more out of the deal than Paragon Studios/NCsoft out of that one.

Heck, the amount of grief I faced pre-ordering a copy from their "partner" left a bad taste in my mouth (and other Canadians too):

This is just one of the many posts I made during the two weeks after GR launch, and I pre-ordered. No retail store in Canada received physical copies for at least a week and a half after launch. If anyone wants to blame someone over lack of retail boxes, blame high shipping costs and tariffs for making it too costly to put a box on the shelf.

A badge is a badge is a badge.
I've been a long time advocate of taking every single meta-game badge and moving them to a separate list, just like Super Group badges. Super Group Badges don't affect a player's total, neither should badges that denote out of game player activity. These include:
    • Veteran Rewards.
    • Anniversaries.
    • Event Login badges.
If they did that, they could even do what they apparently meant to do from the start: make gladiators distinctly separate from the general badge system.
