It depends on what powers you have. With /ice, bosses aren't that much of a problem. Ice Patch is almost as good as a hold. And if you do have a couple holds, it doesn't matter how long it takes to take out a boss since they can't hurt you.
[/ QUOTE ]
It depends did you hold them first or did they hold you first. Bitter Freeze Ray + Freeze Ray = held boss time to clean up. This is where things like the freeze ray accolade come in handy.
The thing to remember is when mezzed its only your tier 1 and 2 on the primary, and tier 1 on the secondary. This eliminates most of the mitigation tools you might have available. Imagine if scrappers had to live with the same kind of thing, give them a 20% boost in hp, give them the ability to use their tier 1 and 2 primary and their tier 2 secondary and take away their mez protection entirely ?
Oh yeah they would be screaming bloody murder and rightly so. -

they are absolutely going to let us switch sides 'for real'.
anything else would be a PR & sales disaster and they have to know that.

Agreed. I don't see why people don't get this fact.

So basically, as far as mid to end game content goes, all other archtypes will outshine a blaster as far as surviveability and the basic ability to solo right?
[/ QUOTE ]
Pretty much. You can compensate, or you can try sets like ice that do give you ST controls, but there is much much pain. Debuffing or mezzing bosses are very bad.
take a look at the numbers
A boss has 2500 hp you have about 1200. If you go fire /ice and you have been mezzed you will be doing about 320 points/ 4.25 seconds approximately.
The means you have to survive the boss for 32 seconds or so to inflict enough damage to kill them. That is all best case, no end worries on your part, no minions still around no summoned pets and no resistance to the damage types you are throwing and everything you shoot hits.
So can you survive to get off your attacks is the question. -

Looking to roll a blaster, however I have some concerns. I have heard that they are great out of the gate till about level 20 or so, then they are stagnant and all other AT's are coming into their own, is this true? Also I heard it is very difficult to solo a blaster in the teens and above, is this also true?
[/ QUOTE ]
Depending on what you are fighting even earlier than 20. They can be made to get better with IOs most notably set bonuses and uniques can help immensely. Going out to the power pools also helps. -
[ QUOTE ]
They could make snipes 5 times as more damaging, and it still would be useless 97% of the time.
[/ QUOTE ]
LOL that 3% though would be absolutely fantastic.
Seriously though if you are a single target blaster that 97% of the time is when you would be using such a beast. -

That search WAS here on the boards. Where did you think I searched? <Not being snarky, just an honest question>

I know was just trying to give you a better way to search these boards. You are correct the internal search function sucks wind. -

Search is a bad joke here.
For example, a simple subject query "Farming -re" produced 200 returns that did not even HAVE "Farming" in the subject!
I prefer they consolidate them.
..just sayin

I think that if it doesn't happen the Rogue Islands will be mostly abandonded by the player base. Only the hardcore villian only folks will remain there long term.

This I know people that won't play villains because of the perceived difficulty in ioing out redside, toss in the smaller population and lack of large merit earning opportunities there will be more villains getting religion than if it were the rapture -
How many tickets did you have total ?
There is always the 9999 ticket carrying cap. -

Maybe you were not aware of this from Mod08 eventhough it is just up thread of your post:

Due to the many threads on farming, and the communication inefficiency that resulted from the diffuse nature of the discussion, we have decided to consolidate all discussion on farming into one thread. If you wish to discuss farming or any subject pertaining to farming, please discuss it here.

If anything this thread should go in player events. -

Does the recharge effect how fast VS uses powers, or how fast I can resummon him. Since he is out for a minute, and only has a minute recharge time, then that wouldn't help.

I am pretty sure pets are no longer getting recharge bonuses to their attack chains. -

In other words, we can't really tell if they experiment failed to trigger the RED ALERT siren or if they simply chose to ignore it.
[/ QUOTE ]
Due to dev reticence to provide meaningful guidelines, we don't know the process the black box goes through. it either acts or doesn't and we don't know why.
We must assume actions that don't trigger a hostile response have not crossed any of their invisible boundaries.
[/ QUOTE ]
Or that the black box runs only periodically.
Or after the level pact screwup they stopped running it.
Or they have exemptions built into it that this triggered.

Ogon was right about this really not being science on the baords. -

[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't attribute too much to it.
I appreciate Smurphy's thought and effort. But if I was a dev and I had a speed limit I didn't want anyone to know about, then I probably wouldn't post it and I probably would avoid becoming a datapoint in Smurphy's experiment.
In other words, we can't really tell if they experiment failed to trigger the RED ALERT siren or if they simply chose to ignore it.
[/ QUOTE ]
This.
Now, people will hand wave it away. Or try and turn around and say it proves something about the Devs.
All it proves is they wouldn't be suckered into playing this little game, or that they don't care about people triple-boxing 1-50, or they're more concerned with it becoming a mass activity that any individual character can perform by themselves.
There's lots of things that this "experiment" could prove, which is why it a poorly designed experiment if that is what it is supposed to be. It purports to take data on its subjects by reading their minds.
Sounds like science to me.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't think it was supposed to be science. Its pretty clear that its meant to be some sort of enterprise, I guess the inf exchnge business is slow. The leadup about confrontation and seeing where the limits are seems like just so much barnum -
[ QUOTE ]
But that alone proves something. It makes it all the more evident that they don't give a [censored] [censored] about how they handle this. They retroactively punish, punish the wrong people, ignore their customers screaming for clarification, THEN they make exceptions cause it suits them????? Sorry your going to make something bannable then define it and enforce it evenly no exceptions.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't know that the points you raise needed this experiment for proof. We have thousands and thousands of posts of the forums begging for clarification and the best we have gotten is a faulty traffic analogy.
What the MA mania has shown is, is that the devs really don't listen much to their customers and are willing to walk off a cliff even when people are shouting there is a big drop -

... Castle's area of effect formula ... penalizes powers that have any significant ground coverage
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't quite get what you're talking about here. Blaster AoEs are already calculated according to that formula.
[/ QUOTE ]
I'm very sure they are not. When Claws was recalculated (19 AUG 2008 patch), power damage levels all changed.
[/ QUOTE ]
Well if you look at claws eviscerate and spin, have nearly the same cast times, endurance and recharge eviscerate only does about 1/3 more damage while affecting one fifth the area.
do you have the formula because it looks like either blasters are operating off very different constants, or a different formula, -

Liked it alot initially
The luster died off quickly. Its far too easy and offers little challenge. If anything it feels even more grindy than the regular parts of the game. -
I have a pretty simple pistol concept.
Its a guy with guns who shoots people who he thinks are evil.
Funny enough its the same concept for my hero and my villain. -

It's accurate. Flurry is one of the most damaging attacks in the game when you pvp...
[/ QUOTE ]
Umm...wut? Please explain.
[/ QUOTE ]
All attacks in PvP have been normalized based on animation length. Since Flurry takes so long to animate it does a proportionally large amount of damage. Technically all attacks do similar DPA but since PvP has so much jousting it is harder to take advantage of lots of shorter attacks. Long activation hard hitting attacks are good to deliver as you joust other players.

Brute SS KO blow at the damage cap outdamages any blaster attack at the cap.
Corruptor blizzard at the cap is the single most damaging AOE attack in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
IOW, Brutes/corruptors WITH enough buffs to hit the damage cap.
[/ QUOTE ]
QR: To player 99 and snakebit
No. A brute only needs a full head of fury to outdo single target, if you toss in rage or their build up powers, buildup, firey embrace , rage, etc they do considerably better.
The corruptor with blizzard will outperform without the buffs as well, if they are something like a /dark with a -res power they do even better.
I am not saying blasters don't do good damage, I am saying we are in general paying an awful lot for our damage considerably more than other ATs do. -

Well here are a few that aren't

Corruptor blizzard at the cap is the single most damaging AOE attack in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
Corrupters' blizzard deals more damage than an ice blaster's blizzard?
Brutes I wouldn't put into the equation. Their damage level is fluctuating and starts out much lower.
[/ QUOTE ]
Scourge
Edit and to clarify I am talking about maximum damage in all cases.
