Here we go again.
Get over it. Mistakes happen. Whining about it in every thread you stick your head into just makes you look like a child having a temper tantrum. You're already quitting, so why bother with this tirade of yours? Are you trying to get others to quit with you or something?
Actually, don't respond. We don't need another thread locked/deleted because you can't stop being a baby.

I think i will reply ty, and if you really want i can get alot more threads locked and deleted i have a whole other account to use after this one gets banned. The mods maybe able to shut me up but you can't And i didn't get a ban nor a toon deleted so really not whining more sort of noticing the way it was handled, and expressing my opinion. Too [censored] bad if that bothers you you don't have to read it and you don't have to reply. Since you did it just seems to be to start something and hey i haven't backed down to the mods think i will to you?
[/ QUOTE ]
Cool, ignoring you now. I don't speak kindly children and I'd like to avoid being banned for telling you how it is. I didn't even read your post, either because I don't care. -

Unfortunately, he's trying to call you out on saying that they'll ONLY have positional. The Toxic Dark is also typed Lethal in addition to Ranged while only doing toxic damage.
[/ QUOTE ]
I didn't say Toxic Darts did only toxic damage. I said "attacks that deal only toxic damage" have only positional type. The second sentence of my post does not refer to Toxic Darts, hence the reference to Acid Arrow, an entirely different power that DOES only have toxic damage.
Guess the wording could have been better.
[/ QUOTE ]
That's what I'm saying, though. Toxic Dart deals only toxic damage, and you claimed that attacks that only deal toxic are only typed positionally with regards to defense, except Toxic Dart has both Ranged and Lethal typing. To reiterate, according to his screen shot, the dart ONLY does toxic damage while being typed Ranged and Lethal for defensive purposes. Lethal was probably added later to assist typed-defense builds only.
I'm not taking sides or arguing, just pointing out what his screenshot was referring to. -
Probably because the accuracy only helps you when used against Players?
Only thing I can think of, sorry. -

The EF/RI fix is pretty nice, though, even if I did get used to the wrong versions with them, too.

I know, but I would end up deleting all of them except the RI/EF fix, so I don't bother with it at all. -

We don't hate the word heal. We hate the word "healer" coming out of the mouth of those who are ignorant and resistant to accepting that debuffs>buffs>heals.
[/ QUOTE ]
Exactly! There is no "healer" in this game, and quite honestly the only people who use that term are demonstrating their own ignorance and general stupidity.
[/ QUOTE ]
level 16 emp/dark defender with only dark blast, all their empathy stuff, AND the medicine pool, named healbot457453257.
Would that NOT be considered a "healer?"
There are "healers" in the game. Thats their play choice.
I think of them in the same way as petless mm's.
[/ QUOTE ]
Except I don't delude myself into thinking that my Petless MM is someone that the team absolutely must have to survive. Yes, I have one, and it will probably be rerolled into a Dual Pistol character depending on what sets get paired with it (he has a specific concept, and his secondary is FF). In fact, I haven't ran into any Petless MMs in the game who thought they were really awesome MMs. Mine is practically just a buff-bot that does minimal damage.
And that's the problem most people have with "healers". They believe that they're required, they believe that they're "the best", and too many people agree with them. That Empath/Dark who took only heals AND the medicine pool? Yeah... I won't take that on my team. Unfortunately, someone else will and they will praise them for it. -

I put significant slots into my "defenses," that is, PFF is triple slotted, Hover is triple slotted (for manueverablity).
I'll rebuild as suggested and see if it makes a difference, but I'm not optimistic.
Tomorrow, though. My eyes feel like pebbles, darn allergies...
[/ QUOTE ]
i have a few questions since Nomad Zero (FF/EB) on Justice will be hitting 12 fairly soon:
When you first posted about fighting mooks on a FF/EB you talked about them capping at 20, but your FF/EB is actually 12? Are you using other enemies to force the character and Mooks to be set to 20, or are they actually at your level of 12?
i need to know before i go past 12. Note that i will not be using your slotting. PFF at 50 is usually left at 1 slot on my alts. However, i have no high level alts on Justice and am just soloing as i level. When i hit 12 i may skip using DO's, but i have no idea why anyone with any intelligence would do that. Still, for purposes of testing i will clear out my inspiration tray before fighting the mooks. i'm interested to see how this goes.
Also, i will not be claiming any veteran rewards to make this fair.
Edit: Took a quick look at the ranged defense for Nomad Zero at level 5 with PFF unslotted: 78%. Soft cap is 45% against even cons. Whyinahell would you add more slots to that?!
[/ QUOTE ]
Just going to comment on one thing here, regarding slotting: I frequently forgo any type of slotting until around 17 for level 20 IOs, and usually just for Accuracy/Endurance slotting. I used to not slot anything until 27 or 32 (depending on character) but that became too big of a chore after about level 22 because of mob scaling. It's not impossible, but I really don't recommend this for anyone. I'm stingy with my influence for whatever reason. -
[ QUOTE ]
You may have a point regarding the Tanker and KO Blow. It was a while ago, and I hadn't considered who he had been fighting. The more I think on it, the more I think it was Freakshow, so sapping was probably an issue. It's not, however, a lie. It did happen.
Mooks are L5-20, so they spawned at L12 for my L12 Defender.
I don't ususally play Defense oriented sets, so I wasn't aware that there was no need to slot PFF. I was doing so because I was frequently getting killed right through it. If there's no benefit to slotting it, obviously, I won't do it.
I made several characters together, intended to be a group together (boy I wish there was a way to invite and promote your own characters to your own Supergroup). A Tanker, a Scrapper, a Defender and another Scrapper (he's the one with Claws, so we won't consider him since he's considered an unfair comparison). I'll run all three through a test mission and report back.
[/ QUOTE ]
Once again. "You *may* have a point". You just can't accept the fact that you're mistaken, can you? You use examples that aren't possible outside of certain specific situations, then you remove the situation, and use the example to try to prove a point that it doesn't prove. This is why no one can take your claims seriously -- you insist on supporting your arguments with lies of omission, or just outright lying period.
You only "ran out of end" because of infrequent sapping from Juicer/Stunner mobs against Freaks? Why am I still skeptical of this? Oh, probably because you would have taken them out fast enough (they're only LT class at best) if you did more than just use KO Blow every 18 seconds. Not to mention that not every spawn has one in it, and you're twisting your data again because you just can't be wrong. You frequently choose tactics that are SELF-DEFEATING. This is not a problem with the game. Rather, it's a problem with your ability.
On the note of your Defender: you had three targets to hit with ET? You realize that three targets is the "magic number" for most AoEs for them to come out ahead when compared to a single target? ET does more damage for less endurance to three targets than Power Bolt will, so again, you chose the wrong tactic. Knocking all of them back instead of just one would have also helped, but then, you'd have to move your character instead of leaving it stuck in a single place to get them all in ET range, and I don't see you wanting to do that.
Not realizing that PFF soft-caps yourself is just ignorance on your part. You can pull up the power info at any point in the game now. I also love how you claimed that you feel you built your character to "solo" and then tell us how you slotted your character defensively, and in a manner that does nothing to help you solo. You don't need faster Hover to solo with, slotting PFF for PvE is laughable, and about the only thing you did "right" was make sure your attacks could land. In short, you wasted slots in places that don't help you solo at all, but claimed it was slotted for solo-ing purposes.
Please, Ultimo. For the sake of your arguments, learn how to play the game you're trying to change. -

Tier 4 Teleport power to me should have Assemble the Team added to the mix. Very useful and very popular.
[/ QUOTE ]
Not gonna happen, no matter how useful it would be. It would invalidate the 42 month Veteran Reward.
Maybe an emergency exit power, that sends the player and those around him back to the beginning of a mission map?
[/ QUOTE ]
This reasoning behind adding an "Assemble the Team"-like power invaliding a Vet Reward doesn't make sense. The power already existed in game as a Temp Power from a Safeguard/Mayhem. Vets get access to permanent Nemesis Staves and Blackwands, which were once only obtained as Temp Powers as well.
If anything, making that an option for the Teleport Pool gives a Vet access to the same power twice, while eliminated the "need" to pick it up at all for some. It won't invalidate anything unless the recharge on it is really short, which I don't believe it would be. But at the same time, I don't see that type of power being added as a chooseable power to begin with. -

And if I recall right, Vahzilok poison darts are typed LETHAL, not Toxic for defense.
[/ QUOTE ]
There is no toxic defense type. Attacks that deal ONLY toxic damage will have just a positional type wrt/defense.
[/ QUOTE ]
Care to revise your statement?
[/ QUOTE ]
I was pointing out that the dart wasn't typed for toxic defense because there IS no toxic defense type. That's correct. I also mentioned another attack, Acid Arrow, that ONLY does toxic damage and therefore has no damage attack-type defense at all. Only positional. That's also correct.
So... no. No revision. Thanks for asking though.
[/ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, he's trying to call you out on saying that they'll ONLY have positional. The Toxic Dark is also typed Lethal in addition to Ranged while only doing toxic damage.
However, I want to believe that this is a more recent change specifically to help sets that carry no/little positional defense and rely entirely on typed defense to avoid damage. -
[ QUOTE ]
Never have I ran into a healer hater. I run into healer fans all the time though. The guys that cant start a mission until they have a healer. The person who immediatly demands a healer after a team wipe/couple people go down.
My problem with your research is that it does not fit well into the CoH world. If you are a defense based toon without soft capped defense, would you not rather have a defense buffer than a healer? Show me mitigation numbers for a 35% defense toon who just got buffed to 45% defense. Then put them up next to that same toon, who didnt recieve the extra 10 defense but instead opted for the healer... Gonna be one tired healer.
There is no absolute better form of mitigation/recovery/whatever. Its all highly dependant on the team, situation, and player skill.
EDIT: plus healing is very hands on, taking away from the time that player could be useing to hurt the enemy.
[/ QUOTE ]
Never ran into a "healer-hater"? Never grouped with me, then. Then again, I define the term "healer" to be the type of player who just puts the tank/point-man on auto-follow and sets Heal Aura to auto (in some cases, Radiant Aura and in other mind-boggling cases Twilight Grasp/Transfusion).
And that's the problem with healer debates. It's an unclear term because everyone has their own definition for it. Some people insist on using it when they mean Defender or Controller who has the ability to heal, others see it exactly the way I do, and still other times, some people just plain mean they want a Defender of any kind and thought that's what they were called. My Trick Arrow Defender, being the sole support character on a group, has gotten "Nice Heals" more than once from people who have no idea what I'm doing.
It's all rooted in player ignorance, and it's not going anywhere anytime soon. To me, the reason "healer" bugs me so much is because it only describes a very tiny portion of what some Defenders can do, but it's being heralded as the "One to Rule Them All". I will admit I'm bitter about it already because of experiences playing my Dark/Energy Defender on Infinity, but healing is frequently the least effective method to deal with incoming damage in a group outside of very specific circumstances. If you're not in a specific situation, buffs or debuffs will almost always be a superior option.
So yes, I'm a "healer-hater", but I'm not blind to the value of a heal. Just don't decide to sit back and spam it because you neglected all your other buffs/debuffs/attacks and expect me to keep you around for long. I give a pass to lowbie Empaths because they have very few options besides heals/attacks until a certain level (but you better be attacking still), so don't even try to bring that up against me. It won't work. -
IO Sets vary wildly, and what you want to build for may not be what someone else would build for. Do you want bonus damage? HP? Regen? Recovery? Recharge? etc...
I'd look at the wiki for IO information, or use a hero builder such as Mids' to determine the things you want to shoot for. Saying that you have "5 billion infamy" isn't truly that helpful if you no idea what you want. -

OK, I'll accept your previous statements that went down to the devs just not wanting many sets to be useful at all even in teams when facing AVs due to specific resistance that target them as useless.
After all, it would be an exploit to allow these players to be useful to those teams, because they all decide to team together without a regen/resist debuffer or damage buffer in the team. We can't have that.

But my change would just remove 5% smash/lethal/fire/tox resist from Infernal (who has 25% resist).... as he stands he takes normal damage from energy/negative/psionic and even bonus damage from cold!
Why not just bring a lot of cold users to take him down fasto, like they will do if Armor Break existed?

Huh. So those times when I'm fighting Infernal with a single Controller, two Fire Blasters, a MA Scrapper, and a Stone Tank... and taking him out anyway was stacking? [/ QUOTE ]
But that makes no sense... why don't they exploit the AV's weakness to Damage Type X right now as they would do if one person was able to lower resist type Y to 20%?
Why would they never do now what they would do then even if its entirely viable?

Apparently you aren't reading me properly. I never once mentioned stacking the Break, I mentioned stacking the damage that the Break is designed to Break. I guess you need an example, but I don't know why... so here it is: Katana Scrapper to Break Lethal, backed up by a ton of other Katana, Broadsword, Dual Blades, or even AR users to take advantage of the 0% (or in your revision, 20%) Lethal resist number. Do you get it now?
[/ QUOTE ]
You mean as opposed to simply stacking the damage type the AV is not resistant to in the first place (current case?) Because if that is a "problem" we already have it.
Does that help you any?
[ QUOTE ]
I clearly stated that any group who knows they're going to take on an AV or GM would prepare for it, and that usually means bringing along at least one debuff/buff suited to the task.

Knowing what to do means knowing who to bring, gotcha. That is a prefect example on how this game allows any group to use good skill to take down any content.

i dont plan on leaving my girlfriend, but i just dont understand that she said she wants to spend more time together. she does the same thing if im playing or not, which is watch tv. the only difference is that when im playing shes bored and says i dont pay attention to her. im always getting up during the game to get her a drink or a snack or to let the dog out while she just sits on the couch and complains. and we talk the whole time too, i mean i know sometimes it takes me a moment to respond to her if im chatting in the game.
[/ QUOTE ]
I don't have a girl friend, but it sounds like to me that she doesn't like the feeling that she's "second" to a game. While she may just watch TV when you're hanging out with her, she knows that you're there with her specifically because she either wants you there, or you wanted to be there. You're enjoying time with her, even if it's just watching TV, instead of splitting your attention between your game and her.
But I'm just an observer, and this is what I see. I really have no experience with these things at all. -
Hopeless is my middle name. Also: Pointless, Worthless, and Pathetic. But that's neither here nor there.
Apparently you aren't reading me properly. I never once mentioned stacking the Break, I mentioned stacking the damage that the Break is designed to Break. Or, if you're still confused, bringing in a Fire Scrapper/Tanker to break Fire Resist, and stacking the rest of the team with a plethora of Fire-based offense... even including Fire Control! Does this help you any?
I'm also not doing the same thing, minus the quotes.. I'm just being forced to counter each of your points individually because of your insistence on your rebuttal tactics. My paragraphs all center around the central idea and build upon my response, hopefully taking a few of your break-ups into it to condense my post into something far more readable.
My example regarding the Titan is not a contradiction, by any stretch of the term. I clearly stated that any group who knows they're going to take on an AV or GM would prepare for it, and that usually means bringing along at least one debuff/buff suited to the task. Any character capable of lowering the Titan's resist or regeneration would have sufficed -- I just happened to be on my TA defender, saw they were having trouble, and helped out. My one character turned the tide of the battle; hardly a specialized team by any means. Your proposal of giving melee characters a specific Resistance Debuff shifts their focus in a team from being damage machines to being damage/debuff machines who just so happen to debuff the very damage they deal normally, which makes them even better at dealing damage to the point that you won't need anything else to kill anything.
In effect, you're making a solo-centric AT into an AT that only solos extremely well (somehow becoming better at it than before!) while simultaneously being the "best" debuff character you could bring to any mission/TF where you have a tough challenge in the end. This pushes Defenders completely out of the picture for the most part for absolutely no reason while encouraging a team composition that consists of damage types that only seek to capitalize on your Breaker's particular Breaker Type.
EDIT TO ADD: And Siolfir brings up a good point regarding additional -resist from other sources that I hadn't taken into consideration. +Resist naturally resists -Resist. When you strip a target of its +Resist using a Breaker, any -Res from another source will taking full affect, which would be incredibly ridiculous against "tough" opponents. Granted, this is still achieved with SuperTeams already, but this Breaker concept has the potential to, no pun intended, break the game wide open since it's not limited to a certain set, but instead, an entire AT. This is even more true when you consider the fact that many melee sets share damage types, namely Katana, Broadsword, Axe, Dual Blades, Claws, and Spines. -

I don't like some of his replacements, but that's probably because I've become accustomed to some of the "incorrect" icons that the replacements just don't feel right.
The EF/RI fix is pretty nice, though, even if I did get used to the wrong versions with them, too. -
[ QUOTE ]
I have to agree the breakers would be abused to no end. For example, you suggested Broadsword's breaker to be Slash. Sure, a lot of people skip that, but it wouldn't be hard to work into an attack chain. Especially mine, which uses it twice as it's current optimum level (though everyone doesn't use my build). Mine is Headsplitter > Disembowel > Slash > Hack > Slash, which means I would get to fire it off twice with my current chain without compromising my DPS. I'm pulling something like 136 at the moment. I know, that's not amazingly high, but I still need several hundred million inf worth of more IOs. But even still, I do have enough DPS to solo some of the AVs. With a breaker, I'd be able to nail every AV in the game with my unfinished build (RNG permitting).
Not to say people shouldn't be able to solo AVs, however. I've always thought they were meant to be soloable since they spawn for one person on invincible. I'm under the impression that, if they were meant for groups only, they'd only spawn for a group.
[/ QUOTE ]
Keep in mind that on any difficulty other than Invincible, AVs downgrade to an EB when solo. Invinc is specifically for those people who want that extra challenge, and the game isn't designed around this difficulty setting. -

[/ QUOTE ]
Hmm. 5 years and I still learn things. Cool. -
[ QUOTE ]
My build is L12. There's not much I can do with it at that point. The Scrapper is ALSO L12.
It's the typical argument. I describe a situation and am attacked as being a bad player. That's not an argument, that's simply dismissive and says nothing.
The Minions were doing around 20 damage each. If I entered melee range, that jumped to 40 each. With 235 health (or so), facing three such minions, I would not have lasted very long had I not sought to take one out of the fight. Not having damage output, I had to find a defense. I used the Force Bolt juggle. It may not have been the most endurance efficient, but it's the only defense I had. Power Bolt is the only attack I have, other than melee powers (Air Superiority, Sands of Mu).
The point was that using two powers, and only two powers, completely drained my character's endurance in the time it took to defeat one foe, and a minion at that. Had I been playing a Blaster, Scrapper, Controller, or even a Tanker, I wouldn't have had that problem. The Tanker would have been borderline.
I never said the character should solo as fast as a Scrapper. I said the endurance used to achieve the same ends should be comparable. I can't imagine why that notion generates such resistance.
[/ QUOTE ]
And there it is. It's not a "bad argument" because it's so frequently applicable to your studies, Ultimo. You just plain don't play very smart and your tests always skew your results in your favor.
For fun, I pulled up a FF/Energy Defender of my own to look at it's build at level 12. I will admit that I built it to take advantage of KB rather than use defensive shielding (it was a concept I later abandoned, mostly due to wanting to try something else with sets I hadn't played much instead) so it has three attacks by level 12. Taking out ET in place of a standard FF shield, and maybe taking Detention Field out and opting for Dispersion Bubble, I still have two attacks to kill spawns... and that's plenty for a Defender at that level. When soloing her, I also jumped around a lot to confuse the AI -- something you never seem to do, or report doing, which just leads me to think that you don't think when you're playing.
In short, I'm attacking your strategies because they're the basis for your arguments. If your strategies are faulty, then your arguments crumble by default because they have nothing to stand on. Honestly, this is my preferred method of debate and I really wish it wasn't so easy to employ on you. You really do have some interesting ideas at times, but you insist on basing them on problems that don't exist and it ends up getting in the way of your idea.
Also, the two powers you chose to use were the weakest Defender attack, and an attack that does basically no damage that costs the same as your weakest damage power. This is not a valid test. Run the test again with Power Bolt and Power Blast and see how that goes. Just remember that you're a defender -- you're not built to absorb hits like a Scrapper and have to take certain actions a Scrapper doesn't to avoid as much damage as possible.
As to your last point, if you weren't trying to say that your Defender should be able to be comparable to a Scrapper, then why bother telling us how long it took you to flail about as one? That's just pointless data that only serves to back up the claims of your inability to play intelligently, which hurts your argument foundations. -

Actually, it looks like neither Romulus nor Requiem have any inherent resistances to Lethal or Smashing damage. Looks like many AV's work that way, especially of the non-Praetorian/Freedom Phalanx variety.
