Plant/Storm

Well, my plant storm is finally nearing 50. So much has changed since I started her that I'm basically gonna scrap the original final build I had planned.

So, hope to find a suggestion or two for a final build. This is what I've come up with. I'm pretty much sold on the EPP choice. And I'm sold on Flight as the travel. Otherwise, feel free to tweak, or or do a complete overhaul. Thanks.

Short and sweet: Freezing Rain needs maximum recharge. Enhancing defense in steamy mist increases your total defense, you and your team by 1.6%. I switched one of the Luck of the Gamblers to the 7.5% recharge (I believe you intended that in the first place), switched the other LotG and one of the Kismet's (not the accuracy bonus) to pure Resistance IOs. You have the base defense of 3.75% and after the change your resistance to heat, cold, and energy (think Rikti, Nemesis, Council, Praetorian Clockwork) at 21%. You still have the same softcap smashing and lethal with a nice boost to the resistances.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

I took a quick look at your build and made a few minor changes. You did a few things that I would not do, but I left your power choices alone. I reslotted Freezing Rain with Recharge and procs, so you get more damage and it is up a lot more often. I added 7.5% more Ranged Defense, since Hurricane can keep away melee attacks. I dropped the Zephyr -Knockback in Hover since you already had one in Fly and 8 mag -knockback is no better than 4 mag. I also put a stealth IO into Hover to give you full invisibility when using Hover+Steamy Mist -- which I find very, very useful to get into the best position to use Seeds. Accuracy is useless in Tornado, so I made a small change there.

Personally, I would use the Ice APP over Earth. Ice has better ranged attacks in Ice Blast, Frost Breath and Ice Storm, but still has a S/L defense shield, plus Ice has Hibernate, a great panic button power. I would drop Thunderclap and take Hasten. (Actually, I prefer Super Speed with a */Storm, so I would drop both Hover and Fly. Super Speed is great for Herdicaning and getting in position for best use of cones and Lightning Storm.)

But here is the build I would suggest using your power choices:

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Thank you both for the input. I think I'll try to take some of both of your suggestions. I *knew* it could be tweaked out a bit better, but I was just getting to that mental block place....

@Psy Yes, I did mean that to be a +7.5% recharge, and I quite like the added resistances.

@Local Thanks so much for the catch on the doubling up on teh Zephyr -KB. And I like a lot of your other improvements, too. I agree with ya that Ice APP and SS would be better (I personally dislike flight as a travel a lot) but it's sorta thematic. I'm usually willing to make concessions to theme, since careful slotting and IOing can get ya still quite high end enough for almost any situation anyhow.

Now I just need to get 4 more levels in the time I have left, and make sure I have all the IOs laying about.

Thanks again!

PS: If anyone else can offer any other suggestions, though, I'll happily still listen to any more input.

PPS: I'm sorta surprised that nobody suggested, or even mentioned the fact that I skipped the pet. It seemed pretty bad to me, in play, but I thought maybe I was just doing something wrong. But, as nobody advocated that I should try to add it back in, should I surmise that it's just that bad a pet?

PS: If anyone else can offer any other suggestions, though, I'll happily still listen to any more input.

PPS: I'm sorta surprised that nobody suggested, or even mentioned the fact that I skipped the pet. It seemed pretty bad to me, in play, but I thought maybe I was just doing something wrong. But, as nobody advocated that I should try to add it back in, should I surmise that it's just that bad a pet?

I completely missed it. Twoey is a decent pet -- not great, but decent. (The name comes from "Little Shop of Horrors" where the carniverous plant was named "Audrey II" but called "Twoey" by the main character. Some folks call it "Chompy.") In my opinion, he is the coolest looking Controller pet in the game. He contributes decent damage. He's not all that durable, but adds some damage and some control. He can be used as a distraction, too. I would compare Twoey to the pet in the Dark Control set. I certainly would recommend taking and slotting up the pet.

Drop O2 Boost or Spirit Tree to fit it in. Both of those powers are "nice to have but skippable." Personally, I don't have the Fighting Pool on any of my Plant Controllers so I don't have a problem fitting in powers.

He is, without a doubt, the coolest looking controller pet.

That said, is he a ranged attack pet? I assumed he was melee, as I never saw him use a ranged attack. And he's almost always hiding behind me. Maybe I just need some tips, or to do some research, on how to use him.

If you skip the fighting pool, what sort of defense do you end up with? Does it just not seem to matter with all the strong control tools?

I love O2, and do not, even slightly, consider it skippable, unless it's a solo only build. I would lose the Spirit Tree, but, that's back to that pesky theme I'm trying to stick with, so that's not droppable either. I would be completely willing to lose the fighting pool, is it wouldn't hurt survivability, though.

And, as a final thought, I'm loving the last chance for some good old back and forth chance to learn some new tricks, POVs, etc, with one last build. This is part of the game I always loved, and love the input, and the differing viewpoint. Admittedly, controllers are not on of my stronger classes, build-wise, or play-style, either, so the help is quite appreciated.

If you look HERE, you'll see Twoey's attacks. He has Entangle (range 60), Thorny Darts (range 80), Fling Thorns (Range 30) and a bite attack (melee, obviously). Strategy is pretty easy . . . Control everything, and let Twoey go to town killing what he can.

I tend to use stealth and a lot of control mostly. Between Steamy Mist, Combat Jumping and Ice Armor, I can get about 25-30% S/L defense. Plus, I play like a weenie -- staying back out of melee, letting a melee teammate grab aggro and gather up groups before I control them. Solo, I'll let Twoey act as my tank if needed (although he doesn't last long in a tough fight). I don't hesitate to run if I draw too much attention. If I draw some melee attention, Hurricane is WONDERFUL. Overall, playing without capped defense is actually more fun to me -- it is more of a challenge.

I like O2 Boost both for helping teammates (great for un-stunning in battle) and healing up Twoey. It was easily skippable on my Grav/Storm since Singy can't be healed. Personally, I would choose O2 Boost over the Fighting Pool.

Controllers have been, by far, my favorite AT. I have around 17 or so at level 50 on two accounts and over many servers, with at least one of every primary. I find them fun because there is such a wide variety of playstyle. Some are melee, some are ranged, and some are close range. Some do great damage, others do almost no damage. Some are good solo, some are best as support. Even the same primary and different secondaries can dramatically change the play of the character -- I have Ill/Rad, Ill/Storm, Ill/TA, Ill/Time all at 50, with an Ill/Kin and a second Ill/Rad not too far behind. Each of them plays differently. I have Plant/Rad, Plant/Kin and Plant/Storm also -- all of them fun for different reasons.

I like Scrappers, Brutes and Tanks, but they are all -- run in, hit stuff in melee. Only minor differences in playstyle. Stalkers are slightly different, but mostly just another variation on the same theme. The Blast sets are mostly the same -- stay back and shoot.
