First let me be clear and say I did NOT Draw any of the art shown in this thread (at least not yet) The line art is not mine the COLOR IS and was done at the request or with the permission of the owner of the art (whether that is the artist, or recipient of the original line art)
my DA site can be found here

With that said On to the Art!

this is QuarriosSoul's Malleable Mechanic originally drawn by AdamMasterman on DA

Here is Mariner's Micro Lad with the Fantastic four's Thing original art by Bobby Blaze AKA Agent Canada

This one I colored some time ago and is Kaemgen's Fenian drawn by kthewife inked by frost dusk aka Dave (no link for kthewife as her account on DA seems to have been deactivated

I hope I have more colored art to show soon, who knows maybe next time it will be your hero or your line art I color!

comments welcome

Some suggestions:
1. Establish from what direction your lightsource is coming. The shadows and highlights should be consistent.

2. Stay away from the airbrush tool. Learn to use brushes in combination with the smudge tool to create gradients and textures. It will make your objects look solid and less puffy.

3. Use color to relay more information about the subject and enhance the linework. For example, the thing is covered with craggy, jutting rocks. There would be lots of shadows and highlights and gradiations in value based on their angle in space. You have his whole body covered in one flat application of orange. The burning edge of the cigar is almost the same shade of orange with no glow. Fenian's rock has all kinds of layers and cracks indicated by the linework, but again you've got a flat color over the whole thing with two puffy, oddly place shadows on the sides.

I didn't use the air brush tool I used brushes and smudge and Fejian was the first thing I ever computer colored and was done some months ago. the other two are my 2nd and third and are more recent, but thanks for the suggestions and at least responding to my work

It's reminiscent of John Rauch's coloring style on books like Invincible. Rauch does a lot of cool subtle things with color, while keeping it bright and comic book-y.

well thank you for the compliment ^_^ Its fun for me, I am an okay sketcher, but hat inking mainly cause my hands are too shaky so my own drawings never get colored

Off to a fine start Xenophage.
I have lots of gift line art in my thread (mostly of other peoples heroes given for birthdays and prizes) if anything in
there inspires you. Also there is a collab thread here that has several artists line work posted with coloring permission given.

P.S. KtheWife is still around on DA she left her old account and set up two new ones.
One for art commissions and the other for WIPS and ranting. Can find her here and here.

One --> Artz Giveaway <-- To Rule Them ALL!

Good to know for those interested I am also happy to do a trade (I offered such to Agent Canada he was just nice enough to draw Cola Girl no trade requested )

the trade would be my line art for yours or I color a piece of your line art for line art of one of my characters, this doesn't exclude the idea of me just coloring something I like that I have permission for, but I would to do some trades if any one is interested as I almost always broke but have a yen to see my characters drawn in a fashion that I unfortunately at this time lack the ability to do to my satisfaction.
