So I'm getting a new computer!

And I was wondering what the opinions of our illustrious community thinks of the new rig. I play alot of different games some more resource intensive than others and my current machine is pushing 5 or 6 years old. So I felt it was time to upgrade. Here's what I am planning on but I was hoping some of the more technically minded among you could point out any flaws or things I've overlooked in my setup. I've only submitted the relevant parts for the sake of brevity.

Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Quad Core) (Overclocked around 4.0GHz to 4.4GHz)
Motherboard: ASUS P8Z77-V LX (Intel Z77 Chipset)
System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

Power Supply: 800W Corsair GS
Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Corsair) (Model: Force GT Series CSSD-F120GBGT-BK) (SATA 6Gbps)
Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital/Seagate/Hitachi/Samsung (7200 RPM) (32MB Cache)

Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x)
Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti 2GB (Includes PhysX)
Cooling: Vortex 120mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler (High-Performance Edition)
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition)

My current system while old is still fairly robust but coh gives me unacceptable fps if I try to push the ambient occlusion. Otherwise everything else is maxed. I think that's probably the fault of my current processor (dual core 2.66) since the video card (ATI Radeon 5750 I think) should be more than a match for anything coh can throw at it. While I know the above specs for my new machine will be overkill for coh I do play other games that are very graphically intense and I want this new machine to last awhile. Any feedback about the specs would be appreciated!

Hi there - I'm putting together a new computer once UPS drops off the last parts I need. From looking over your plan I'd suggest the following changes:

CPU & Mobo -- You're mixing generations there. They'll work fine together but you've got a Sandy Bridge i7 with an Ivy Bridge Z77 chipset. Also, the i7's are overkill for most anything, at a $100 price jump. If you're not into photoshop, video editing, and such, an i5 is sufficient. As far as brands, I've not used Asus but I've heard good things about them.

Suggestions:
Sandy Bridge, i7 : i7 2600k & a Z68 motherboard. There's really no need to go here unless you already have the i7 in hand.
Ivy Bridge, i7: i7 3770K & the Asus Z77. Expensive, but if you're doing intensive graphical work you may need it.
Ivy Bridge, i5: i5 3570K % the Asus Z77. Best price/performance, as much as you're likely to need.

Memory: You can run just fine with 8gb, but, hey, memory's pretty cheap now.
Power Supply: 800W is a little high, you could go 650W. Just get something 80+ certified. I went for a Corsair TX650.
SSD: I found a Samsung on sale, but I've heard Corsair is a reliable company too.
HDD: ...I still look at HDDs and think pre-flood prices. I miss 2Tb for $70. A 7200 SATA 3Gb/sec is plenty - the HDD gets little performance going up to 6Gb/sec. The price difference is negligible now too.
Video Card: I'm waiting right now for my 660 Ti to arrive. The price points for the 7850, 660Ti, 7950 and 670 are a smooth curve right now. You spend more, you get more. Personal preference really.
Cooling: Water cooling frightens and intimidates me! I went with a Fractal Designs Arc Midi case with a pair of 180mm fans top & side and two 140mm front. Then my Hyper Evo CPU cooler had it's top spokes stuck into the side fan, and had to return it for something under 7 inches high.

I don't have a problem with the MB. It's OK to use a Sandy Bridge in that MB and you do end up saving a little bit of money ($40) going with an i7-2600K Vs the i7-3770K and you don't suffer from the heat mitigation problems that Ivy Bridge has when you overclock.

800 Watt PSU is overkill for a single video card system. I would be amazed if it needs half that while gaming.

Is this a Digital Storm built rig? Asking because I only see reference to a Vortex Liquid Cooling system at their site.

It is indeed a digital storm rig!

They built my last computer however many years ago and I loved it all this time. I simply had to get another from them now that it's time for an upgrade. They really know what they are doing and their customer support is top notch.

Since I'm afraid to build my own machine I prefer having a reputable company do it so if anything goes wrong I have someone else to blame and a warranty! But my last computer from them was wonderful and they were running promotional sales on the vid card, an extra year on the warranty for free and 10% off the top of the cost so I felt it was a great time to get it.

I wanted the liquid cooling system (its a sealed loop system, I'll never have to touch any fluids or refill anything) cause it is quiet compared to some fans and its good for overclocking the processor. I do alot of work with video and audio editing in addition to gaming on my my rig so having the cooling and extra ram is worthwhile to me.

Which particular rig from their site? Want to step through the various models and see if there's anything they're offering that might serve you better.

I agree with Serenity, Ivy Bridge.

For SSDs, I would go Intel.

The PSU at 800W is very overkill, but I am finding that quality units are pushing the min wattage up these days. Its getting harder to find quality units that are less than 400W and cheap. So, its probably a case of you won't save much dropping down 100W-200W.

Stick to Air Cooling, water coolers even sealed systems ones do spring leaks. The performance on those units are not worth the extra cost, performance and risk.

Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

My post was an example of "stream of thought" posting. The $40 was in reference to buying parts and by the time I got to the end I realized you were having it built by a 3rd party boutique shop.

The baseline I started from was "Black Ops: Slade" option. I customized it from there.
