That's a good question. Thinking about it logically if the store allows you to purchase a new license while you still have one running then I would think that means that the time stacks but that's not really proof.
Have you tried sending a question to customer support?
Well since i am premium and not VIP, all i get is generic responses from customer support like a e-mail that says go here to this FAQ page or look on the forums. I really don't like that, but can't do anything about it.

Using the /mypurchases command in game (guide here: A guide to finding out what you have unlocked from the market), you should see a line like this (Keep in mind that I have the "permanent" version thanks to vet rewards.):
Invention License (30 day) 800 0 5/29/77 12:21 PM COLIINVN
Which translates to:
Name : Invention License (30 day)
Purchased : 800
Used : (however many used already)
Expires : 5/29/2077 12:21 PM
Product : COLIINVN
In other words, getting the Paragon Rewards gave me 800 sets of 30 days.
I've also previously bought 4x Invention System Licence (at one time) on my premium account and it was good for 4 months.

Go to the Support site at https://support.cityofheroes.com and use the Ask a Question tab to ask your question (you'll have to log in to your support account, if you don't have one it doesn't take long to create one). In your question state that the information isn't in any of the FAQ's so you need a direct answer. If you get unsatisfactory responses just reply to that ticket and politely ask that it be escalated to a more senior CS rep.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

Thanks all for the answers. Snow Globe, you actually answered a question I asked in-game not to long ago but no one knew how to do. That is knowing when you purchased certain items in the game. Also i figured they stacked, but was making sure before I purchased.
Thanks TJ for clarifying that for me. I thought Adeon meant in-game support. I will have to remember that one for the next time I'm in a jam. Glad I came to the forums for an answer.
Minor point: The command doesn't say -when- you bought an item, only that you did.

Based on the info in this thread I bought 5 months of Invention License for my 2nd account that has to be un-subbed a while. Thanks Snowglobe!
This is the second time we have had to stop the sub on the wife's account and I have previously purchased the invention license twice.
Using the / command you listed I was able to confirm the expiration date after the purchase. The entry was -
Invention License (30 day) 7 0 2013-01-16 02:33:00 COLIINVN
The 7 must reflect the prior two plus the new five (so it tracks the grand total ever bought perhaps,) and the 0 shows what must be 0 of the new 5 used because the expire date is correct. So I decided to mention it here because if that is how it works it might confuse some people. It confused me till I puzzled it out.
Yes, it tracks the -lifetime- total purchases, not just one session.
