Unless there's a seperate situation going on for bases, it's really unlikely bases are going anywhere. As it was put in one Coffee Talk conversation, working with bases is like playing with a house of cards that's on fire.
The code isn't documented and tweaking it can literally break the system. I'd love for there to be a parallel base system developed, though.

I've also promoted, along with a number of other players that they develop a new system alongside the old. Not that I think they'll ever put the resources to it, but I firmly believe that's the best way to approach it. The devs, however, could change my mind if something else is done to improve the plight of base builders everywhere in Paragon...

But, as Blue Centurion stated, it's simple to create a free account and use a character on that account to invite your alts. You just have to set up the Launcher to allow multiple instances to be run simultaneously, an easy and quick setting.
If the game spit out 20 dollar bills people would complain that they weren't sequentially numbered. If they were sequentially numbered people would complain that they weren't random enough.

I really don't see the issue with it, though. The only thing I can see happening with it is people getting the bonuses for bases. Big whoop. As these discussions keep revealing, bases are broken and hated, and you'd only get enough prestige to buy a lamp to go with your chair. Which you can't even sit on.
I honestly can't even recall the last time I was in any of the bases in any of the SGs I'm in. It has to be at least 3 or 4 years, easily.

For those of us who like creating characters this is very annoying.
Tangential to bases, however, would be having your offline characters walking around doing stuff in the base. Maybe have some show up on monitors, fighting in space or attending a costume contest in Atlas.
