New Badge Idea

I have plenty of "show off" badges now, for what that's worth. I don't -need- a new set like this regardless if it's a good idea or not.
So you're asking for prestige badges to show off, not an incentive for players to go back and experience old content. My mistake.

I just don't buy into the idea that players need new badges to "encourage" them to do anything in this game. Either 1) you don't care about badges at all or 2) your goal is to get specific badges thus will do whatever it takes to get them. The concept of "passive badges" that people don't technically care about but will cause them to change the type of content they play in order to get those very same badges they don't care about is like being "a little bit pregnant" - it doesn't make any sense.
Trust me, the Devs really don't need to trick anyone into playing any content they otherwise don't want to do. *shrugs*

I think those last points, Lothic, are precisely what I was trying to get at with my little list up-thread. I really don't think this idea does anything to assist with the stated goal.
Whether or not it is a good idea for a badge or set of badges is really beside the point. As a suggestion for new badges, the only way I would support this is if it merely counted unique Souvenirs acquired... though I would be against a count going as high as 300 whether or not I have a character who would meet that requirement or not! As a means to increase the variety of content that is played? I am 100% against this idea, since I don't think it would work at all.

We are agreed on the idea of a series of generic "souvenir count" badges, but I really think Zombie Man's suggestion for the top count being 300 is appropriate.

According to what I have seen there are currently over 300 souvenirs currently available in the game now and new ones are always being added with every Issue. If a character can realistically have 300+ souvenirs now why would a proposed set of "souvenir count" badges not be able to reflect that?

I suggested that when the souvenir count was in the low 200s.

Time to make badges for 350 and 400!
The purpose of a souvenir badges is for doing all the content. Which is the core of the game. If there's a badge for farmy and grindy stuff like a ridiculous amount of crafting, then there most definitely should be a badge for... you know... playing the actual game content to 'completion.'

The amount of crafting badges they added was a mistake, IMO (I'm still working on Fabricator). Remember when they took all those ultra-grind AE badges out?

I agree, and I really like the idea of a souvenir badge. Not just because moar badges yay! but also because I'd find it fun to be able to look for the badges on people's character info.

I won't address Fabricator too much here since you can now brute-force that badge with a few hours of time and a few 100 million Influence to burn. As far as the "ultra-grind" AE badges go I remember that I had around 75 of them done within about a month of their initial release. I only needed to earn like 4 or 5 more by the time the Devs knee-jerked their decision to remove them from the game.

People can have their own opinion about whether or not the Devs did the right thing by their supposed attempt to save players from having to "grind" the AE badges. But I will never consider a group of badges like those which were earnable within a matter of weeks to be TOO grindy for the purposes of this game. I will always believe the Devs grossly overreacted in that case.
If by some miracle the Devs decided to add "souvenir count" badges I think they would be fine from a grindiness point of view. I am not opposed to badges which take typical players several months to earn. There are still badges in this game which take a significant amounts of time to complete, such as Leader and Immortal. The souvenir count badges would likewise be "long term goals" for players to reach for.

The devs didn't pull the badges to "save" anyone, they pulled them because the badges encouraged what they consider to be aberrant behavior.

Also, I'm aware that some people get badges like this done in a matter of weeks, but not everybody has that kind of time, energy or focus.
Simply put, I don't believe we should continue to have (new) badges which can be "brute forced" by barricading yourself inside for a couple hours (or worse yet, AFK farmed). We have enough stature badges as it is.
