Intricacies of turnstile

..encore.

Can someone please replace the forum software? I'll even help you burn it down if I get to dance around its corpse.

Anyway, relating to the topic in my signature, is there a page that explains, in detail, the exact mechanics of turnstile teaming?

Specifically, when does the turnstile kick in? For example, I've had DFBs start with four people, but also with eight - and in the latter case, I am certain there weren't seven other pre-queued players before I, too, joined.

Second, what about the "join events in progress" option? In one case I was sent to an empty, half-cleared instance. Another time I instructed another player how to queue himself with that option enabled, yet he never received a prompt to join our existing four-man team, nor anyone else's.

And finally, DFB-unrelated, is it possible to queue for unlockable TFs, such as Cavern or Hess, if the player doesn't have it unlocked, but another queued player does?

Once you've joined the queue, it will wait until you have the bare minimum number of players to start an event and THEN begin a(n invisible) 90 second countdown. Any other players that queue up during that countdown will be invited to the league at the end of the countdown, and if the maximum number of players happens to queue in then it will jump straight to the accept screen, skipping whatever is left of the 90 second countdown.

That functionality has always been flaky at best, and I've never personally been able to join someone else's in-progress trial through the LFG tab. However, the league leader can invite others to join once a trial (by which I mean DFB, DiB or any of the Incarnate Trials) is in progress, as long as the maximum number of players has not been reached.

No, but they can join a team where the leader has it unlocked and get queued in as a team.

Gotcha. Assuming no communication between queued players, there's no way to game the system, then, considering...

At least the tradition of half-***** feature implementation is alive and well... unfortunately.

Hmm. Doesn't help very much, but useful to know.

"Join event in progress" will only allow people in if the team falls below the minimum required teammates.

That... makes it nearly useless.

Yeah, LFG wasn't very well designed for large trials and events. Great for small stuff, though.

It's actually wose than useless it is activey harmful. The overwhelming majority of the time it does kick in, you find yourself on a trial that has failed and people are bailing out of. This breeds hard feelings and encourages people to stop using it.

I've seen many, many requests to change the function to kick in when a trial is below max, and have never seen a dev statement why it doesn't work that way.
