Awesome Space Station time lapse video

Father Xmas

Just saw this. Amazed that it's really hand assembled video of thousands of stills. HD it, full screen it and sit back and enjoy the show.

It's fake. Or at least it's a clever merge of different timelapse videos. The background stars don't show up that brightly when taken from space because there is no scattering effect from the atmosphere.

This is real.

I'm guessing that most of the time stars don't show up in photos taken in space because they're so much dimmer than closer objects (the earth, spacecraft), and the exposure isn't long enough for them to register.

The image you mention that you can see stars in has a notation that it's not color adjusted. It looks like it may have been taken on the night side of earth, which would mean it has a longer exposure and would therefore show stars.

Which also explains why a lot of the lights seen on Earth are streaks due to the "long" (probably under a minute) exposure time.

Oh please. That video was obviously made just before the final episode of season 5 of Doctor Who after all the stars went out and just before the Doctor rebooted the universe with second big bang.

No, the images are entirely consistent with the photos I've seen on multiple science sites. They're some of the most striking space photos to come along in years.
