Some general suggestions:

Tar Patch: I usually stick with a simple 2 recharge IOs here. Enhancement from slow sets is of limited usefulness because a lot of it is spent on areas that you won't benefit from such as damage and accuracy. If you want the recharge bonus, 4 pieces of Dark Watcher's Despair in Darkest Night will serve you better.

Shadow Fall: I'd encourage you to slot for end. reduction along with defense as this is a heavy endurance cost out of the gate. You may also find some benefit in slotting for resist as well as defense.

Fade: Frankenslotting is the way to go for Fade in my book. Using a combination of Def/Recharge and Resist/Recharge will help get this perma. It offers up a nice amount of resistance that can be stacked with the armors from the APPs.

Phantasm: Knockback can be quite frustrating for melee teammates, more so when it's out of the hands of the player and at the whims of the AI. I'd recommend another set of Expedient Reinforcement over Kinetic Crash.

World of Confusion: This power, in my opinion, simply isn't worth taking. Even in builds that are more melee centric (electric/rad, for example) I'd be hesitant to take it. It only works in melee range (8 feet) and is only a chance for a mag 2 confuse. I think you'd be better served by the mez protection from Indomitable Will or stacking the resistance from Mind Over Body with Fade and Shadow Fall.

Psionic Tornado: I prefer the Positron's Blast set here. Enhancing the knock up in this power won't add much to its mitigation, probably only fractions of a second airtime for the enemies.

Hmm trying to do some of these suggestiongs but it actually makes my recharge lower, to many 6.25% recharge sets, Im trying to work it all in though. Also with the tar patch dont you want to buff up the reduced speed in the power? Im new so dont know.

Tar Patch debuffs the enemies max run speed a fair amount so slows aren't overly necessary. As long as PA is aggroing the mobs, most will stay pretty well in the vicinity.

I also just noticed that you've got both Superior Invisibility and Shadow Fall. Unfortunately, you can't run both at the same time. Since you've already got full invisibility from other sources (SF+stealth proc, SF+SS, or SS+stealth proc), I'd recommend swapping Superior Invisibility for Group Invisibility. This will allow you to keep some defense while running Shadow Fall and add a small amount of utility for granting stealth to teammates.

You may also want to consider Recall Friend over Super Jump. The stealth/tp combo makes speeding through a few TFs much easier.

ahh so you can run group invis same time as shadow fall?

Ok so here is how i have changed it so far. But am still working on it.

Ok so here is how i have changed it so far. But am still working on it.
Group Invisibility is a click, so it's effects don't suppress when attacked, which allows it to stack with toggled stealth. I've even taken both SI and GI before which does some very funky things to the way you attract aggro. For example, you can sometimes fight in the middle of a mob without aggroing it.

With a quick glance at the new build, I'd recommend keeping your Basilisk's Gaze in Blind and shifting the Will of the Controller set to Deceive. That will let you keep the 7.5% recharge bonus and pick up the 10% bonus where you dropped the 6.25%. You may even want to only 5 slot WotC; the ranged defense is nice, but your defenses combined with Darkest Night are already fairly good.

oh wow nice call on that blind/decieve switch. its definately progessin to be real nice without use of purples. Is the one karma Knockback protection gonna be enough for most things or should i add more somehow?

One will cover you for most knockback. A few mobs like Fake Nemesis have a higher mag than that, which require 12 points to protect against. Four should do the trick unless you're taking most of the fire from knockback heavy mobs.

Ah had one more question on my Twilight grasp? Do i have enough accuracy on it?

With your global accuracy bonuses and a single level 50 IO you're above what two SOs of accuracy would give you. If you don't mind losing the 5% recharge bonus (which appears to make about 1 second difference on PA's recharge) you could frankenslot for more accuracy. I would play it by ear though and see if you're comfortable with that level of accuracy.

Ok also I was thinking about on your suggestion on dropping superjump and getting recall friend that sounds great, but maybe was thinking of grabbing ninja run off the market and dropping super speed as well and grabbing teleport for getting over high walls and such. whats your thoughts on that? Or would it be better keep super speed. And get something like flying carpet to get over buildings and walls and stuff?

Posted

I use Ninja Run a lot in lieu of actual travel powers (combined with Steam Jump for really high walls), and it it can be flipped on quickly for when you need a little vertical movement. Flying Carpet, on the other hand, shuts off toggles you have running so isn't quite as flexible in my opinion; good for between mission travel, but when you need speed and stealth inside a mission it won't help.

I'd probably stick with Superspeed in any case. As for Teleport, it's a bit difficult for vertical travel. You have to port up then port again to get to the other side of obstacles. It's not so bad when bound to the left mouse click, but not as convenient as Super Jump or Steam Jump.

ah so good combo then prolly keep superspeed, and then just buy the steamjump for going over walls and stuff?, sounds like good combo and cheaper on the store as well. By the way you have been a really big help here is current build if i do super speed and steam jump.

I'm looking at the build above and have a few thoughts. I've had a little experience with Illusion builds. You might want to look at my Ill/Rad Guide, linked in my sig. It provides a lot of information about Illusion and strategy tips.

Illusion is mostly about (a) distraction from Phantom Army, Phanty's Decoy, Deceive and the fear from Spooky, and (b) single target damage to take out the lower level foes first allowing the pets to focus on the tougher foes. Recharge is essential to get PA and the other powers up as much as possible. Then you need to maximize damage whenever possible. While Defense is nice to have, I mainly rely upon the distraction to keep me safe. Any time a foe pays too much attention to me, he gets Deceived.

Eventually, you want to get an attack chain of Blind-SW-APP Blast-SW. Leveling up, you may want to have something else to fill in for the APP Blast. Some folks make do with the Vet attacks, while others fit in Air Superiority. Regardless, you need to try to get good damage in your attacks.

I think you may have some endurance issues. Yes, you have Soul Absorption, but that won't always help you. You may want to consider getting some more Recovery in the build.

Spectral Wounds: I have used 5 Decimations, including the Build up proc, and an Acc/Dam Hami-O in the last slot. The Entropic Chaos set you have only has 85% Damage . . . by capping Damage enhancement, you would get an extra 5 damage (not including the build up proc) -- which doubles with Containment. In the long run, that adds up.

Blind: 4 Baz Gaze is OK, but the proc is mostly worthless. Think about it. What good is a proc that slows recharge when the target is held? Slot the Acc/Hold instead, and then put two more slots here for an Acc/Dam Hami-O and common Damage. Another option is the Will of the Controller set with the proc.

Deceive: Putting a damage proc in Deceive is a REALLY BAD IDEA. One of the best parts of the power is that it draws no aggro. Putting a damage proc in the power draws aggro.

I know you wanted a build with no purples, but if there is any way to get the purple Coercive Persuasion set with the proc, it is wonderful in Deceive. The proc turns turns Deceive into an occastional Mass Confusion. Plus it has 10% Recharge for 5 (freeing up a slot for 6.25%) and 5% Ranged Defense for 6 (if you are slotting for Ranged Defense).

Darkest Night needs to be slotted for EndRdx and ToHit Debuff. Drop the proc and ToHitDebuff/Rech for ToHitDebuff/End and End/Rech.

Flash has a 20% Acc penalty, so if you use the power, it helps to put an extra Acc/Hold/Rech into it. Essence of Curae works fine.

Howling Twilight: The Tempered Readiness set is really a kind of poor investment -- 5 slots to get 3.75 Recharge and enhancement that doesn't do much -- Slow only affects run speed, and the damage and accuracy don't work in HT. Just use one or two Recharge. (There's two of your slots for Blind) Another option is to slot it with a stun set.

On Invisibility: Full Invis is very much needed to lead pets around. With an Ill/Dark, you can combine Shadowfall with Super Speed for full invis. I would move up super speed and move Group Invis back. Only put a LotG Recharge in GI and an EndRdx in Super Speed. Keep the -knockback Zephyr in Recall Friend - just one Mag 4 is enough knockback protection for about 92% of the game.

You don't have enough EndRdx in Shadowfall. I have used 4 Luck of the Gambler in it getting as much EndRdx as I can. The Steadfast +3 Defense is good, but I have never wanted to spend the cost for the Glad Armor +3 proc, as it is more expensive than purples.

Phantom Army: You don't have nearly enough damage slotted. I suggest 4 Expediant Reinforcement (leave off the proc) I like to finish the other two slots with the purple Soulbound Dam/Rech and Chance for Build Up, but without purples you can cap Damage and rech with 2 Call to Arms. (The Defense and Resistance procs are not needed for 3 invulnerable pets, and not worth using for Phanty)

Combat Jumping: Only slot this for added Defense if you have slots to spare, but Maneuvers needs some EndRdx. I'd move the slots to Maneuvers to slot up EndRdx.

Phanty: Drop the Resist proc and Acc/Rech. Add the other two from Expediant Reinforcement for more damage. That almost gets you to the damage enhancement cap.

As explained in my Ill/Rad guide, I'm not a fan of the Psi pool. It does the same kind of damage as your primary, making it hard to kill psi-resistant foes. The main reason to take the Psi pool is for mez protection, and you really don't need mez protection as much as other builds since PA and other pets draw tha aggro. I like the Fire or Ice sets, and with Ice, you also get a defensive shield (that will take another Luck of the Gambler recharge). Ice Blast, Frost Breath, Ice Shield are all very good for this build. Hibernate is a one-slot wonder panic button power.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Here is my live build. I have to agree with everything Local Man said pretty much. I would definitely at least get the Coercive Persuasion purple proc. Thats a winner to slot in Perceive and every Illusion Controller should have one.

I have two sets of purples in my build. The Confuse and Absolute Amazement in Howling Twighlight which could easily be swapped out for Stupefy. I dont just use it as a rez power as it is -500% regen on an AV.

Pretty much I unleash the pets and spam Deceive until EVERYONE is my pet. Of course I usually have on Superior Invisibility as well..

Its a very very potent combo that you will really enjoy..

The hard things I can do--- The impossible just take a little bit longer.

If numbers are so much more important than a teammate who is fun to play with, forget about the game altogether and go play with a calculator instead. -Claws and Effect-

Ok assuming i can get the purples which will take me awhile. What do you think of this build? More advice is definately welcome.

I played around with your build to make some changes. I was able to increase the damage, recovery and reduce endurance usage without making any significant reduction in Recharge. I replaced Group Invis with Soul Absorption as I consider Endurance more important than the small amount of Defense (remember it cuts in half in a fight), but you can always swap it back in. There was also no need for the Stealth IO in Sprint, since Shadowfall + Super Speed gives you capped Invis. Once you attack, I would suggest turning off Super Speed for longer fights to save the endurance.

You might want to consider Spiritual Radial for Incarnate. It has a Recharge buff, plus it will provide enhancement to Slow (Tar Patch and Howling Twilight) and Stun (Howling Twilight) without using any slots.

There are a few places I would love to add a slot, but those slots are tight on this build.

LOCAL MAN! The most famous hero of all. There are more newspaper stories about me than anyone else. "Local Man wins Medal of Honor." "Local Man opens Animal Shelter." "Local Man Charged with..." (Um, forget about that one.)

Local's changes look pretty good. I agree that you'll want to keep Soul Absorption. It's very useful for endurance management and it's a buff for the whole team.

I like GI, but you really have to know the niche uses of it to get the most out of the power and as a team buff it's only ok. In fact, it's sometimes an unwanted buff for an aggro holder due to the reduction of threat level. Reduced threat though can be pretty handy to get mobs to focus on PA rather than yourself and other pets.

I have a few personal preferences over the build above. I like Frost Breath over Ice Storm because it is faster to recharge and not DoT. If the OP wants to keep GI, he could consider dropping either Recall Friend or Hibernate.

I dislike slotting Fluffy with Baz Gaze, as slotting him with ToHit Debuff is very effective, but I didn't change it because of the Recharge.

Overall, it is very hard to get Perma-PA without using several purple sets since Dark does not have a Recharge buff like Rad or Time. A purple set in Ice Blast or Ice Storm/Frost Breath would not only increase the Recharge but also free up another 6.25% slot out of the "Rule of Five."

yea I guess i should have mentioned this before mostly gonna be grouping with another ILL/Dark troller, we will have same builds he is friend. Granted we will try to do incarnate stuff as well. The reason i slotted Howling twilight with supify it just made it so it can be upgraded to purple set later as well. allowing for 5 purple set total when i can afford the stuff, that would put appocalyps on spectral wounds in place of decimation. Decimation could then move to ice Blast. Ice storm would be slotted with ragnarok wich then would allow me to slot glimps of the abyss into spectral terro instead of unspeakable terror. but i do see your pointds about endurance. Oh and the reason for dropping soul absortion was cause hibernate has almost same recharge time and does vitually same thing. but haveing 2 ways to recover endurance would be nice. The build would look something like this but keep in mind the purples would come slowly, Im still pretty new to game but first thing i did was make fire farmer for money.
