Overwhelming Force

I'm not that expert at crunching the numbers, so has anyone figured out how well the Overwhelming Force set compares to the existing purple sets?

It doesn't give a recharge bonus, nor a damage proc, so it's not really even competing against most purple sets. You'd use Overwhelming Force for the KB->KD proc, or possibly for the energy defense.

Yea, I didn't have plans to slot it at all in my energy blaster, but I miiiight slot it in Nova once I24 hits.

The Regen bonus for two slots is quite nice and obviously there are a number of powers where the proc is exceedingly useful but that's about it.

In theory a melee character who is trying to build up their E/NE Defense might get some benefit from 5-slotting it but in practice if you're trying to build up typed defenses on a melee character you're generally better off slotting for S/L Defense in your attacks and getting your E/NE/F/C defenses in other powers.

One use I've found for a full set of Overwhelming Force is on my 2nd freemium account.

Since freebies without IO access can use it (as well as ATOs) it's a nice way to get knockback protection by 6 slotting for a freebie character.

In this case I have a time/sonic defender using 6 slotted Overwhelming Force in Shockwave making is a nice 2nd cone doe aoe, a control tool for the knockback turned knockdown thanks to the proc and a source of -knockback for the character from the 6 piece bonus.

Yeah, it's garbage compared to purples, but can be useful nonetheless. I really like the 12% regen bonus, incidentally; it's so easy to cap out on 10% ones.

It's quite nice as a lowbie leveling set. Grab an ATO set and an OF set and six slot your basic attacks on a low level character, then pull out the OF set when you do a respec to a real IO build at 30+ or whenever you get around to doing it. I'm looking forward to the second ATO set for exactly the same reason. A third scaling set from level 10 will be quite nice.

A good point, although I'd only really care about that on certain tanks.

Another good point. I like the first ATO set very much for this reason. The plus here is that as a 'Universal Damage' set, you have a wide variety of powers in which you can slot it. The down side is that, as the bonuses are rather feeble overall, you might want to respec to pull it out.... which I generally avoid. I slot my characters while leveling based on IO'ing them. I generally don't respec them EVER.
