Water Blast Superteam
We should probably use one of those free guild website hosting thingies. I think they usually include forums. Anyone have any experience with them?

My tastes are usually not well-aligned with the mainstream, so I'm kind of used to having favorite TV show canceled, radio stations switch format, and brand names disappear. But, man, it does suck.

It just feels wrong to lay off a development team that was known for their loyalty to the IP on the eve of a holiday that celebrates workers. It feels wrong to dismantle a company that showed the potential for profit in these trying economic times. I wish that I could find better words to describe how I feel because as someone who has put years of studies into the humanities, I feel that I should be able to express this more eloquently; but this just sucks.
City of Heroes was far more than a game to me and I believe that many others feel the same way that I do. It was a meeting space for like minded people to meet and make friendships. City of Heroes was a collection of shared experiences that has left me with incredible memories and wonderful friendships.
I really like the idea of a bucket list team. I know that I'll never be able to get every powerset to 50, but I can finish out the ones that I was most excited about.
Looking forward to Friday, hope everything is going as well as possible for everybody.

Eternal Farewell, a ninja/nature affinity mastermind, has been rolled up and is ready to participate in superteam activities. It feels odd to roll up a new mastermind after hearing CoH is ending, but I want to have one last run through a game that I enjoy with people I care deeply about.

I'm thinking about maybe a dark/dark controller. It would be a very comfortable toon to play.
I am also tempted to go back to my second character ever, a dark/fire scrapper. I am not good with melee to begin with, and that combination is (at least for me) not an easy one. But I keep trying. He never made it past level 30. I might transfer or clone him over to Justice.

Justice superteamers: We have a website now, in case the forums get closed early. If you've ever run with us, come visit us again before the curtain falls. We're running bucket list characters--anything you've always wanted to play but never got around to.
Forever Persona will be on standby for tonight...right now i have decided on MM for the AT and NA has the second power set. Just don't know what primary i want...
We should do a quick brainstorm tonight (Sunday) on 3rd party communication channels. I could see the official forums being shut down very quickly, if they don't want to pay people to moderate and don't want to leave them unmoderated.
To be honest, I expect the game to be shut down long before Nov. 30 as well. The statement NCSoft gave to IGN said "begin...sun setting process immediately". If we assume they are unconcerned with the reaction of either the CoH or the larger gaming community, as the timing and tenor of their original decision and announcement suggests, then I would guess they will pull the plug as soon as they can. Since turning off servers is trivial, that may be just the time it takes for them to terminate Paragon's financial and legal obligations (employee benefits, maybe refunds, whatever).

Hey all,
I know I haven't been around much since the dark team. (And really shouldn't be now... *looks over at the pile of class projects due this week*. How do I keep getting so far behind!?!?!?) I heard the bad news though, and wanted to pop in. I kind of figured that, once I got caught up, I could always come back. Guess CoH isn't immortal after all. :-(
I would like to stay in touch, although I figure I'm still going to be prone to disappearing acts until at least early 2015. (That's the "if everything goes 100% perfect graduation year. What are the odds on that?) So, I'll be on tonight for the "3rd party communication talk" Starry mentioned. I don't want to lose touch with ya'll completely, I really enjoyed running with you.
And if I'm not remembered (I understand, completely), I was the crazy Electric/Dark Stalker "Ally Volt". ;-)
See ya'll tonight!
I remember you Ally Volt!
I remember Alley Volt as well, always good to see folks show up when they can.
I, too, like the idae of a bucket list team. I have two powersets I've never played, that I will put together in a Defender.
Pensive Change will be online tonight,a trick arrow/beam rifle defender.
I purchased beam rifle, but never really had a chance to play it, so now is the time. And I've always wanted a bow based toon, but never found the right time.

Guardian is my home server, but will play for fun anywhere

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if the servers did come down before the announced date. The closing of Paragon Studios just feels so wrong that not following through on the claim that the servers will stay up would not be a shock.
It has been a great run and I'm sad that it had to end like this. I do understand that eventually all things do come to an end. But this just feels so wrong. If Paragon Studios had known about this and had the opportunity to come up with their own end of days scenario, I could accept that a whole lot easier.

We have a website! Link here I somehow set it to approve all membership requests. I really do hope that the efforts to save City of Heroes come through. At the moment, I'm hoping for the best and planning for the worst.
When we do get around to choosing a new game, I think that there should be more discussion than a poll. Personally, I really like games with a high level of cosmetic character customization. I know that it has little effect on gameplay, but it gives me the feeling that my avatar is mine. When we played DDO, I had a monk, that looked like every other monk that I encountered, with the exception of ones that had bought armor kits and looked like hoochies. I am just not a big fan of games that have gear that affects your appearance.

It's not clear how much of our discussion will stay here or shift over there. I suspect it doesn't matter much as long as there is a "here".
Note that the forums on the Guild Portal site can be viewed without signing up, if you just want to see what's going on. Some discussion has begun on other MMOs we might migrate to, if we chose to do so.

And if anyone ever doubted the power of Google...if you search for "Justice Superteamers", you will find both our forum threads and the new Guild Portal site.

And on the subject of other games...are there any games that are as alt-friendly as CoH? With such a variety of classes/powersets? Looking back, it seems like I made an average of about one new character a month that I kept and didn't delete (so about 36 over 36 months for me, which I know is fewer than a lot of people). And I've barely made a dent. Any other games that have even a fraction of that level of choice?

i did post my experiences with other games on the new boards...will try to edit them as needed with new stuff as possible/requested... general warning: i have no problem going back to any of them if the majority decides and tried to keep opinions as neutral as possible.
You've played a lot of games!
Interesting data point: I logged into my NCSoft account and found my billing date was yesterday (Sept. 2). No charge was made, and I'm still VIP. Here's hoping...

The discussion is slowly heating up on our other site (see my sig) regarding which game we might want to migrate to. Come on over and post what you think. It's early, and no one's expressing strong opinions yet. Plenty of opportunity to be a mindshare-leader. Or if you don't want to sign up for an account, you can still read the forums.

Every time I play a melee character in a team, I remember why I don't like playing melee characters in a team. I'm going to finish getting Thalatta (water/storm) and Hex Chill (ice/time) to 50, then we'll see. Maybe my Peacebringer after that. She's done a lot of leveling with you folks.
Maybe we should start chatting about future plans tonight?

OK, we've seen a lot of you over on the GuildPortal site, but not everyone (you know who you are). You should know that the Justice Superteamers Expeditionary Force is looking at maps, trying to find a land of milk and XPs to settle in. Like locusts. Or a plague of frogs. We'd like to have you in the discussion. Right now there's a kind of a poll going on, so if you don't want to register over there, somehow get your three choices for next potential watering hole to arafel, the designated Counter of Noses. PM him here or in game, or call him on his unlisted mobile if you happen to be his stalker (again, you know who you are). We don't actually have a plan yet, but if you check your contracts, I think you'll find that in most jurisdictions, you will be legally obligated to follow us wherever we choose. So you may as well get your say in.
Have I made myself perfectly clear?

Well, i would rather be the frog cause frogs eat locusts right
Of all the days for my graphics card break down, it had to do so mere two hours before the scheduled meeting...
I'm sorry for not joining you this time, but I had to get an old machine up and running first. Unfortunately, that machine isn't really powerful enough for an enjoyable game of City of Heroes, so I managed to get to the Justice photo shooting, but that was it.
I don't know whether I'll be able to fix my main computer in time for the meeting on sunday/monday, but I'll keep my fingers crossed (except for the times I'm holding a screwdriver ).
