Offensive, Support, Melee Alt
An earth/psi/ice dominator could throw out an interesting mix of controls, debuffs, and damage. Earth control let's you debuff defense and to hit. Psi Assault works fairly well in melee range and provides a nice mixture of -recharge, -regeneration, and -recovery. The Ice APP puts up the same numbers for Sleet as other ATs for some nice defense and resist debuffing while adding a little more -recharge. For an AT that isn't directed at debuffs that's a suprisingly good amount. Of course, it's team buffs are limited to power pools and it's numbers there aren't overly impressive.
Otherwise, I'd imagine a Shield/Dark/Soul could add enough defense and debuff to hit well enough to make a good impact on team survivability.
I think my electric/electric dominator does a good job of buffing the melee fighters with static field. It's the sleep patch with the ally recovery buff.
Shield does provide defense buffs to the team. Willpower does some debuffing for the team with Rise to the Challenge.
The VEATs truly are the best combination for the desired results. Bane, Huntsman, Widows, Fortunatas, and to some extent the crabs have good team buffs, debuffs, and melee action.

HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.
Have you taken a look at Warshades yet? They don't have a lot of melee attacks directly, but their Dwarf form is pure melee (basically a pseudo-Tanker), and they have a lot of PBAoE effects, so they play well at short range. They can Immobilize, Hold, Disorient, Knockback, and debuff enemy's recharge and movement speed. Plus, they can use Dwarf form to draw aggro away from allies, which to me is still an important form of support.
Best warshade guide ever: http://dechskaison.blogspot.com/2011...-warshade.html
I get that VEATs and probably the best, and now that Blue mentions it, Warshades are a pretty hard to agrue against, too, but I was specifically looking to avoid the Epic ATs. Done them, and while they are very effective, I just want to try something different. What I enjoy most about this game is trying to find new, novel ways to do things. And even if the new novel way is somewhat less effective, at task X, it almost always tends to end up shining in some way unanticipated.
Even if not, I tend to enjoy the novelty.
That said, ketchs suggestion for Shield/Dark/Soul sounded promising. This is what I've got at a cursory fist attempt. Looks like it has a lot of promise. Certainly not gimped as a melee combatant, quite sturdy, and brings about -30% Dam, 28% tohit debuff (plus the single target melee stuff), +18 Def to all to those nearby, and +11% tohit for those near, too. Wish I could have worked in Assault, too, but don't see how I can effectively, and since Brutes get the small value for assault, it didn't worry about it overmuch.
Opinions? Again, this is a first attempt, so mostly looking for basic impressions, but any specific suggestions are OK, too.
And yeah, it gives up a lot for it's team support focus, but I think it would still solo pretty decently. If not, I can always do a second build for solo play.

Congrats, You found Soul Mastery.
I was going to suggest a Tanker or Brute with Soul Mastery.
Dont forget to take the incarnate Interface that debuffs ACC like I did with my tanker.
The amount of -to-hit you can pile up for this is pretty awesome indeed.
BIOSPARK :: DARKTHORN :: SKYGUARD :: WILDMAGE
HEATSINK :: FASTHAND :: POWERCELL :: RUNESTAFF
OK. So, that's sorta what I want... I like VEATs, and they fill the above role quite nicely, but is there another way to do this? I was thinking Def or Corr, with as many melee attacks as I can from Fighting, etc,but that seemed like a gimpy way to go. And, while I love my support sets, I've played most all of them,and don't want to specifically duplicate. Or at least, not right now.
Doms focused on melee might work, but still not exactly what I was shooting for.
So, I started thinking about how I could make a melee AT build more supporty. I was thinking obviously Leadership, to start with. It looks like most all the melee ATs get the same numbers on the leadership toggles. So, no obvious frontrunner there.
Which combo of ATs provide the biggest ally buffs (very few at all) and biggest debuffs/controls? I'm thinking Dark Amour has 2 control auras, and I believe one of them also has -tohit debuff as well. Shield has Grant Cover, as an ally buff. Several ATs have PBAOE KD as soft mitigation, some have AOE stuns or slows, etc. I'd rather focus on buffs and debuffs, more than control, but don't want to dismiss any winning combos out of hand. So which pairing jump out at you all, and which AT does that combo best?
I was looking at staff/shield, and trying to decide between ATs, until the obvious flaw with that plan sunk in.... Then I kicked myself for being thick, and decided I'd see what fun possibilities occurred to you all.
