I like Gravity. I like Energy. Would I love a Grav/Energy Dom?

Hello Doms!

My "main" is an Energy/Energy Blaster. I don't have a Dom but I enjoy crowd control and I really enjoy blasting.

This is part of my long term goal of having a 50 of each AT.

I whipped up a Grav/Energy build in Mids and I was able to get some really impressive (to me) defense numbers with easy to obtain sets.

A few notes on playstyle etc...
I usually play solo but I can manage my KB if in teams. I prefer to play at range. I favor hover blasting. I am not loaded with inf despite years of playing. I have about one billion to my name. No purples. No crazy procs. I usually play lower difficulties - no aspirations of solo'ing on max difficulty. I usually run radio, tips or street sweep. I use the AE on occasion.

So Grav/Energy. How is that? I remember reading some ...negative posts about it in the past. I do have a concept and good stuff like that - and I'm not exactly a min/max player - so unless there's a lot of pain and a severe lack of fun - a few negatives probably wouldn't dissuade me.

Maybe.

Thanks in advance!

You know, just to throw this out there - I had a whole mess of crepes this morning. They're just like pancakes, maybe even better.

if you like energy/energy blaster i dont see why you wouldnt like energy assault. Gravity on the other hand, well, its a rough set. I like it, but it has an aoe hold (good. check), an aoe stun with a teleport/knockback (eh. teams arent going to like this) and an aoe intangibility (bad. teams def do not like this). I think if the stun didnt have the tp and knockback it would be a really good set tho. Or rather, if it had another useful aoe mezz besides just the one hold. Lift and propel are damage attacks, which a dom doesnt really need so theres also that. While on a controller im sure those two powers are golden. just some stuff to consider.

I have a Gravity/Energy Dominator. With Impact it's a very good single target character, though it is a bit boring until you get Singularity. Also, Wormhole is amazing - it allows you to place mobs where you want them to go and if it misses anyone then they're not aggro'd. It's the perfect pulling tool. I frankenslotted mine with Stun/Range and Accuracy/Recharge, then put +5 boosters on each. Its range is now 111ft. Pretty impressive really. Dimension Shift is useful if things get too much and you want to run away - very useful solo. It also has some use in teams because it applies a mag 10 immobilise - perfect for teams heavy in melee users, particularly if someone is using Burn.

Energy Assault is pretty nondescript though. If you know Energy Blast and Energy Melee then you know what to expect.

I'm rather fond of my GE dom...even if i may have made an odd choice or 2.

When leveling...i skipped DS. Still don't have it after the change they made to it...even after i respecced. What i did get however is Spring Attack.

Solo...i tend to PB, WH into a corner/wall, AoE Immoby (which still needs some acc, apparently), Spring Attack, Whirling Hands, and commence beat-down.

WH on teams...yeah...that can get a little tricky sometimes...but i still use it pretty liberally. As per solo...I try to aim them into a wall and/or corner to minimize scatter. I also try to use it a bit proactively. If the mob we're currently fighting is starting to whittle its way down to their last legs...i start looking for more targets in range to WH to the team. Course...sometimes I don't wait even that long. If we've been pretty much steamrolling...I might WH something even sooner than that (WS's love me as I try to keep them consistantly supplied with MORE BODIES!)

Side Note: Outdoor maps can be fun, if you're near the edge of the map and can WH mobs into the blue field. ...Stuff tends to get a little stuck in those things and makes for hassle free butt-kicking.

I just started a Grav/Energy last Friday and while a bit straightforward at lower levels, he's been enjoyable enough through his first 26 levels. Wormhole is awfully darned nice as a pulling tool what with not pissing off foes you miss and stunning ones you do. In my last session with him I had a ton of fun dropping foes in the middle of the pack of robots the Mastermind I was running with had with him.

Thanks for the input guys. I love how these sets pair thematically. Feels very cosmic, very buff.

Sadly I haven't been able to play much. I'm sitting at level 10. I've been using Perez Park as my training ground - easy access to purples makes it a breeze to stay upright and try different tactics on large groups.

Endurance is providing the biggest challenge at the moment - and I suspect that will be true for a dozen more levels at least.

I went less for "cosmic" concept and more "telekinetic"...but hey...that's just me. With how many of the grav powers worked combined with the kinetic aspect of energy (read: knock stuff on their butts)...worked out quite well.

"Cosmic" can be good. My current Grav/Energy dom's concept is that she was imbued with the powers of the sun, so Gravity + Energy was a no-brainer. They do work well together. I saved my "telekinetic" concept for my Mind/Psi dom. She's more fun than a box full of puppies.

I skipped DS before the changes and see no reason to respec into it, even now. I'm not all that thrilled with Spring Attack either. I guess I'd rather use Teleport Foe.

I have prevented a couple of group wipes (though not all) by use of DS. Also, in the Summer Event, I took a couple of the echo opponents you face at the end out of the fight by use of DS and made surviving that portion of the event easier.

Certainly it is not a power you're going to use all that often. On the other hand, I'm drowning in power slots and can afford several "don't use all the time" powers.

I've been cycling through my 15 characters, getting each a level or two before moving on, so my Grav/Energy Dom is only now at 35. Still a ton of fun to play and there are wonderful abuses you can manage when you've got Singularity.
