Is Absorb Live?

I know Absorb is a new mechanic being introduced for Bio Armor and Nature's Affinity and that some current enemies are supposed to have it too.

But what about current player powersets? Has Absorb been added to them as well?

I ask because I have seen the word "Absorbed" pop up above my Ice/ tank for his entire toon life (made him last weekend), but I can't find any information related to absorbing any damage in the combat channels. I just am not sure if I'm actually absorbing anything of if it's just dummy text for when the actual absorb goes live.

And for the record, I've only played and seen this on my Ice/ tank. I haven't tried out other archetypes/powersets to see if it works for them too.

Thanks for any help!

as far as im aware nature affinity, bio armor, and a few procs in the 2nd set of ATOs give players absorb, i do not think there are any live absorb powers aside from nega pendragons shield in the magisterium trial

the absorb word your seeing has nothing to do with the absorb mechanic

its basically the same thing as seeing the words "deflected" or "dodged" when using SR or shield

When an attack misses the game seems to use a different floating word based on why it missed. I think it's based on the type of defense you have. If Positional Defense was used then you get "Deflected", "Dodged" or "Avoided". If Typed Defense you get "Absorbed" (and maybe others, I don't have many typed defense characters).

Yeah, okay, that's probably what it is then. I don't really play too many typed defense sets either (my main is a Shield). I was just assuming it was Absorb because I knew it was in the works/coming soon.

Ah well. I guess it's too much to hope for at the moment. Thanks for the clarification.

It's based on WHY you have the defense.

Invincible tends to absorb, while Ice would still get deflected.

It was a flavor addition. Used to always just say Missed

Doesn't one of the AVs in the Summer Blockbuster have an absorb power? It's similar to when the PPs hit MoG. He extends his fist in the air when he's low on health and then for some time after you don't do any damage. It's all "absorbed".

nope he doesnt have an absorb power, what he uses is MoG but the new version, while most paragon protectors and valkyrie still use the old version of MoG

I don't think so.
However, Nega Pendragon in the Magisterium trial has the power.

I checked him with a power analyzer: it's standard player MoG. If you want to hit him while it's active, I've found that the combination of Tactics, Aim, Build Up, and a high-accuracy attack like a snipe works well -- though you still need to deal with MoG's 70-someodd percent resistance to all.

Thanks for the correction guys. I guess I wasn't aware there was an old and a new MoG. Can someone clarify what the difference is?

To quote ParagonWiki:

Quote:
Moment of Glory was originally a power which prevented all regeneration, took away almost all Hit Points, and lasted for 195 seconds. After that, the buff of the power faded, leaving you with little health and no regeneration for a short while. The new version, introduced shortly after Issue 11, lasts 20 seconds and has no Hit Point penalty or crash.

Old MoG basically capped your defenses against all but psi, gave you 75% resist to all but Psi, reduced your hp to 25% and left you unable to be healed or regenerate until it wore off. The 75% resist just about exactly balanced the 75% hp loss except that psi damage effectively did four times normal damage if it hit you.

Edit: The historical reference leaves out that in addition to negating all regeneration you could not be healed by any means while old MoG was active.

I used to call it Moment of Near Instant Death.

It was cause for celebration if I actually survived to the end of the power's duration.

Gotcha. I vaguely remember that. I wasn't much into memes characters back then. And I've never played an empty in 7+ yrs.

Actually this is straight from a Developer's PM on exactly what the defense pop ups mean:

Dodged = The attack missed because you dodged it.
Deflected = The attack landed but harmlessly bounced off.
Avoided = The altered environment caused you to miss.
Absorbed = The damage was healed as soon as it landed -- effectively, infinite regen.

Moment of Glory is the in game equivalent of infinite regeneration. Attacks are suppose to be landing but are healed immediately.
