Beam Rifle/Traps Corr Seeking Advice

Hello all, as of recently i have made a BR/traps corr hoping for a fun toon and so far i have found the combo to be quite fun. I normally play a Bots/traps MM and was hoping to possibly find something similar but still be viable during circumstances such as Speed TF runs, SLAM, etc. I am hoping for a build that will allow me to do my share in teams via Damage/debuffing and such if not more. I haven't been able to find much on this Combination and was hoping for any advice i could get. I have put together a build below. I focused on trying to Soft Cap my defenses to give me the survivability during runs but wasn't sure if i was sacrificing to much for it. Thank you for taking the time to look at my post.

A side note, i have been recently interested in GM/AV soloing on my Mastermind and was curious to the opinion of others if this combination could have the potential to do so also. It has the -regen via Poison trap and disintegrate, and the additional tools to help in traps.

I see a lot of places where things are overslotted to chase bonuses (Triage Beacon, Acid Mortar, Stamina, Web Grenade, Seeker Drones) and others that are underslotted (Poison Trap) and Cutting Beam is not slotted for damage when it's your only AoE outside of Overcharge. Also, you skipped Piercing Beam which is good damage and has -Res for those AVs.

Here is what I would do with a Beam/Traps. S/L/E/N/R softcap, S/L/E iCap with Agility Alpha, and 78% global recharge with better slotting in the key powers, IMO.

My own Beam/Devices Corruptor is still not high enough level to have all his IOs assembled, and he's intended for teams, not AV soloing. Mine does go for positional defense, however I do think you've sacrificed too much chasing Melee defense. Ranged defense and essential, and AoE is good, but why not simply hover to avoid melee and slot your powers to be useful in their intended roles? I agree with Wyatt Earp that giving up the AoE damage of Cutting Beam is a bad idea.

This is a build I had for a bit. With all the Traps toons I have held off because I felt I went Traps over kill sometimes and needed to try something else beyond falling on the crutch that Traps offers.

I updated it for the possible sniper changes I figured you might want to take advantage of it or just swap out sniper for Lancer.

What I did was turned off everything like incarnates, force feedback and Tactics to get an even playing field. I used Basilisk Gaze in poison traps which equals out your vengeance LOTG + recharge, assuming that is why it is there. I know most pick up vengeance just for the mule slot.

With everything I mentioned turned off you will notice I have some numbers that are a bit higher. But the over all underlying build is the same, meaning our defenses are about the same. The recharge is the same. As an example you have 44 hit points more. I think at level 50, 44 hit points is just not going to matter much with a AV or GM pounding on you. The same goes for the other numbers as well.

If anything this just shows players that when your looking to obtain some goal for a set, E.G. Defense Cap. There is just not that much room in power choices and set bonus wise you can go with. Yes a handful of powers might be different but over all if your going for defense cap and recharge your pretty much pigeon holed into a certain direction with key sets of powers.

I have Panacea in my robot traps mm and I can see the numbers floating on me and the pets. When you have 2 out its pretty cool as well. The recharge bonus does help out as well again having 2 out. So when I can I put one in on all my traps builds. End result if you have the slot to use and the set bonus your gonna loose out on is not a big deal then toss in the Panacea. E.G. in my build it's 6% heal or mezz protection, so I would rather have the Proc. I would even consider placing another Panacea to replace the Doctors Wounds for the recovery bonus if I wasn't already breaking the rule of 5 for that bonus.

Here is my old build. My current build is on my PC at home.

I added LoTG in Scorpion Shield, 3 slots including 7.5 recharge.
Dropped one slot from Hasten and added it to Trip Mine.
In Trip Mine I 5 slotted Armageddon and got rid of the Procs due to the upcoming proc changes (Hadn't decided to retire him then).
I also 5 slotted Ragnarok in Overcharge

First off I want your account because you can have a Beam/DEVICE Corruptor. (I know you meant Traps)

But kidding aside, the issue is hovering you loose out on everything else. You cannot place Triage beacon, Trip mine, Poison Traps, Caltrops Acid Mortar and honestly I don't know if you can summon FFG as well. End result your stuck with web grenade and seeker drones.

The super great thing about Traps is any Arch Type that can use Traps can be defense capped. Believe it or not but the another great thing about Traps is it allows you to place Trip mines at will when defense capped. Crashless mini nuke every 7 seconds at your disposal. Dots will screw you up, but overall it can be done.

Having BUNCH of Traps toons I can tell you that you can solo 4/8 with just Traps alone, and I do mean just Traps and no other powers. Now for general speed most players that can solo 4/8 will usually run 3/8 or 2/8. On Tip missions I run 2/6 and zip to the end to complete and then work backwards to the door to get another tip mission to drop.

End result Traps allows you defense cap so I see no reason why it should not be obtained. Further recharge is Traps friend which again can be accomplished as well with a Traps build. As can be seen by the builds Attack powers are picked and slotted as well. So it is not like your going for Traps, defense cap and recharge and no attack powers or no attack power slotting for damage.

Traps is truly a win / win set for any player who understands the set.
