Unlocking or just buying Khelds?

Last night, someone asked in help about how they could get a Warshade.

There was a lot of information and back and forth, some of it contradictory. I know you can buy the unlock, of course, and can get them as VIP but how about everything else?

One person said it was set back to unlocking when you got a hero to 50. Another said that was still down to 20. I thought both of these were stopped when they started selling them? Someone else said you got them at some tier but didn't know when.

There's a lot of confusion out there including to me.

So what's the right answer to this?

the only ways to use it are buy the AT or be VIP

i think the lvl 20 to unlock still exists for all users, VIP or otherwise, but if you dont have AT access through buying or being VIP then the epic AT unlock message is meaningless

Well it's definitely not 50, and it's not a Reward Tier either.

As a premium player I had to buy all of the epic archetypes to unlock them. Don't remember ever seeing a message on screen that I unlocked them. It was months ago though lol.

I believe how it works is for VIP only. Get any character to level 20 and you have access to the epic ATs without having to purchase the unlock from the shop.

For premiums, you may need to have a single character at least level 20 before you can create an epic AT even after purchasing it from the paragon market. Not sure on that. In my case I had already leveled a few characters beyond 20 but deleted some of them, and had at least 1 level 20 I didn't delete when I purchased my first AT, the Peacebringer.

All in all, it's not hard or too time consuming to get to level 20. Just spend a couple hours or so doing DFB.

Edit: I vaguely recall seeing a message on my screen that I unlocked epic ATs and asking in the help channel what that was about. That was a little while before I bought the first of the 4 ATs but still had no access to any of them until I purchased them.

All VIPs get access to HEAT/VEAT, even as their first character ever on their first day ever. If they drop down to preemie, they have to buy the unlocks to continue playing.

New freebies/preemies have to buy the HEAT/VEAT before they can create one.

Old subscribers that unlocked HEAT/VEAT before Freedom (via the original lv50 or the "newer" lv20) are grandfathered in, and keep the unlocks even if they're preemie and never bought the unlock.

There is no longer a level unlock for HEAT/VEAT at all.
