This is my build I'm running on live right now. It works wonders, solo's whatever I wish, can tank itrials with DN...but I feel like it could be improved just a little more...

I really want some more def outside of Melee hybrid...without sacrificing recharge.
I switch between Cim Lore and Seer Lore for the AB buff.
I also have Assault Radial for the overkill..

Any thing else I can upgrade? (Money is no object)

First of all, that's quite an impressive build you have there. I'm currently in the process of redesigning my own SS/FA, so this thread caught my eye.

Maximizing recharge and being able to softcap S/L with one purple inspiration are good design goals for a fire brute. I have similar Defense numbers on my live build (but a bit less Recharge) so I suspect that cascading defense failures at +4x8 are your biggest problem as well. Unfortunately I don't see a quick fix to increase your defense, but replacing the Ragnarok Damage enhancement in Dark Obliteration with the knockdown proc may offer some more mitigation.

Another slight improvement would be to switch the Glad unique in Fire Shield with the two Steadfasts, and move the Reactive Armor triple to Plasma Shield. However, your gains in E/N resists are so minute (especially with Cardiac) I wouldn't burn a respec for that, but I guess it's something to consider.

That's all I can think of without a complete overhaul. Again, you have a great build and AFAICT there simply isn't much room for improvement.

For my own planned build I went with a different design strategy than yours. Less emphasis on Recharge bonuses and more S/L defense makes him very sturdy. Better endurance discount in attacks and toggles (and no Maneuvers... it's an end-hog and its benefits are almost negligible IMHO) allows me to pick Agility over Cardiac, compensating a bit for the lower global recharge.

Some observations: I put the Steadfast unique in Healing Flames to help with Toxic resists (all my resistance toggles are maxed out anyway and Temp Protection doesnt need the enhancement). Putting the Hecatomb in Punch instead of KO Blow should help ST DPS (I think... I'm not the kind of guy who calculates the optimum attack chain). And finally, the thing I'm a bit concerned about: the Brute ATO proc in Footstomp. I know it has a better chance to fire in KO Blow, but frankly I don't even use that power until my AoEs have cleared most of the mobs anyway.

I went with similar, here's mine. As the guy above mentioned, cascade defense failure destroys me. Even on +0/X8 banished pantheon tear me apart unless I pop everything and nuke them.

I don't use mids, but here is my SS/Fire/Soul build stats. NOTE: I could get even more defense if I turned hover on... or if I switched to CJ and left that on perma.

- Psy mobs must horribly destroy you.
Here's how I see it. You can aim for S/L def on FA but you already are descently resilient to S/L dmg with Fire Shield and Tough (probably close to 60% if you use Cardiac).
Fire is to the roof, Energy and Neg are fine.
Toxic is easy to bump to 80ish with pre-stacking Healing Flames.
It leaves Cold (quite rare actually) and Psy. Psy damage isnt sadly rare at all. I'm not going to go through all the level 50 content but incarnate trials only have a buttload of psy damage.
Now your build has 0 psy res, 18.5% ranged def.

If you could slip an Impervium Psy res into you resist powers or/and the Aegis unique that would be 18% res to psy. Now I wont say 18% res will save your life, but its abviously more than 0 (heavy math there).

Another thing is that if its hard to reach non incarnate def soft-cap for melee/ranged on an FA toon, its not horribly hard to stand at 30%.
30% melee/ranged will be imo a way better lifequality than your 33 S/L.



- Lots of recovery
I dont know what Destiny buff you are using. If you dont stand at 5% to a def soft-cap Barrier is a nice "oh ****" power but is not very reliable.
Ageless in the other hand not only give you a steady recharge buff but also pretty much negate any kind of endo issue. Allowing you to save slots in consume or stamina (since you dont use set effects on em), actually you could completely skip Consume (I do keep it for exemplar situations myself).



- Lots of recharge
0f course you have to be able to run Burn/Gloom/Hay/KB/Gloom/Hay but beyond that?
More spamming of Stomp/Burn/Dark 0blit is never a waste, but seriously, even on +4*8, most minions are down after one round.

More Fiery Embrace is great, Rage has a very complicated curve. I wont post the math on it but technically the more recharge you get the more rage crash impacts your DPS since the duration of the crash is not reduced by the amount of recharge. Long story short, more rage = more rage crash.

Now the question to ask yourself is: Is all the rechage from these whooping x5purples all over are giving me more dps than damage proc?




0n the detail:
- You use Brute's fury in x5 (for the recharge) and x1 for the proc. x3 and x3 would give you 5% S/L def. Cant tell you how better it is comapred to 10% global but I wanted to stress out this option.

- I dont know, I juste dont know, how Fury proc works. If it applies to all attacks you should try to hide it in a less important power. If it only procs out of what its sloted... well it kina suck (math and other opinion welcome!).

- With such an already heavy recharge build I have the feeling -res glad proc would be more damage over all than Force Feedback.

- You pristine-slot Foot Stomp while it is not part of your ST rotation. I would give more love to Burn if I had to chose the best client.





0f course all I say is subject to contratiction and also note that I'm aiming for perfect AoEcentric recharge oriented farmbuild.

With Red_Shadow's build, it's probably not so much the S/L damage itself that's the problem, it's the lack of DDR that kills him dead. Without defense debuffs, he can probably stand in x8 S/L spawns all day, only occasionally using the heal, but heavily debuffed he'll probably faceplant if he doesn't use inspirations. Softcapping S/L defense both decreases the chance of defense debuffs hitting you as well as providing a nice buffer for when they do.

True, but that would only reduce a Psi attack to 82% of it's original damage value. While not insignificant, it would cost him 6 slots. Much like defense, resistance becomes more valuable once you get more and more of it. But when you have no Psi res/def in your powers to begin with I don't think it's very worthwhile to pursue it. I'd be really tempted on a ??/DA though.

And consider that Red_Shadow's Healing Flames heals an average of 65 hitpoints per second if used when up (not accounting for the FF proc here btw). I don't have the numbers, but I would argue that a lot of global recharge provides better mitigation against Psi than 18% resistance. That, and +HP.

Six-slotting Gloom with Apocalypse set would give an additional 5% Psi def, allowing him to softcap with two small purple inspirations. I think that's a more economic use of slots.

Thats a good point, 30% M/R would be much more survivable indeed, but you'd need to six-slot a lot of powers with Mako's, ToD's, Oblits, Thunderstrikes and Titanium Coatings, of which only the Obliteration set gives a Recharge bonus. I'll admit I haven't tried it, but I'm not sure those extra slots are worth the trade-off. I would love to see such a build though, if anyone has one.

The FF proc no longer has a cooldown, so when it procs it will refresh the duration of the buff. That generates a *lot* of extra recharge, so I would keep it in Footstomp. A better place for the -res proc would be Burn, or otherwise the damage aura.

We may not agree on some things, but you raise some good points and your post has given me a few ideas for Red_Shadow's build.

This build has 150% global recharge (incl. Hasten). Agility adds further recharge to all powers (total recharge reduction is even better than in the OP's build) and practically softcaps S/L def without Maneuvers (44.9%). I kept Maneuvers in as a LotG mule, but it's still useful when switching to Cardiac.

I honestly think energy is the bigger issue than psi. Trials you have a lot of other people's buffs to help fill the gaps, but energy/ranged seems to be what banished pantheon's Def debuff is, and as far as solo content goes that's my biggest 'fill my tray with purples and pray'. That build has about the same for energy as psi, and hits 20 if you toggle on manuevers so you're doing at least as well as I am, but I'm considering making use of the new universal damage 5 piece, even though overall not the strongest bonuses.

Without defense debuffs, he can probably stand in x8 S/L spawns all day, only occasionally using the heal, but heavily debuffed he'll probably faceplant if he doesn't use inspirations. Thats my point. The problem with Defense debuffs its that they dont only come from S/L powers. If you consider the whole game you could indeed think that you are generally fine with S/L cap but incarnate concent has a L0T of unconventional powers and Energy, Negative and Fire based defense debuffs arent rare at all. Not to mention incarnate soft cap seems to be close to 50%.

So unless you are /SD or /SR and lucky you *will* get defense debuffed. Which leads us to damage resist. Sincerely I dont know where the good balance is but I find 45% S/L in incarnate stuff not much more survivable than 30% M/R for solo and when buffs hit, quite less.

Its like Psy res, as it is for defensive sets, its rare on support sets. 0nly DM (and the new dark support thing for trollers) will give you Psy res, and not loads if you have 0 youself. Its not that rare to die on a Single Seer boss in an incarnate trial. Then again I have the feeling sacrifying one enhencement per resist power isnt a huge price for 20ish psy res but I may be wrong.

To be very honnest I'm trying an Invul Brute with full Psy res (you can reach 41%) because all in all /FA has become very more squishy with higher soft def cap and commonly used exotic damage types (which is a good thing for the game balance imo).

All of you hit the nail on the head in one way or another. Tis why I came on the forums for some advice.

Yes, Psi mobs I generally do have trouble with when solo. I tend to shy away from Arachnos missions, and Belladonna's arc took a bit of adjusting.

DA arcs weren't too bad solo, until the more steady debuffs kicked in. KoV and even the ToV weren't too bad, but I have a habit off going all or nothing on this guy, so BP mobs are hurting.

I have tinkered a bit with my build, and still am based on all your feedback. I've got about 6-7 different builds saved now. The things I didn't include was that yes, I use Barrier on him as my main Destiny. T4 Barrier Core is permanently on when I remember it.

As said, I bounce between Melee and Assault hybrid depending on the type of mission. (Belladonna I've been using more Melee, but repeatables in DA get trounced with Assault, as long as it's not BP).

I am trying to see if I can switch my defense around, and possibly go the suggested M/R route. I see how it could help a bit more on the exotic type missions, and would be very interested.

Some other good points were brought up with my recharge. Yes, I obviously wanted to pump as much +recharge as I can. Healing flames being up 11ish seconds REALLY wards off that exotic damage. Even more so when I'm going full out Footstomping things.
However, the point about Rage I see in it's full. I have been crashing so much with Hasten and Rage that I really thought of making my Ageless a T4, and a main destiny. That would help a little more if I went the +DDR route, and with the End.

Consume can help, and it does a LOT, but those odd times I'm hit with both at once hurts.

You've giving me a lot to think about, and improve on. I don't like the idea of moving a lot of stuff around, but that's why we have mids.
