A few base building questions
The first question is, do we still have a method for creating double wide doors? i know there used to be a trick to it, but i don't remember it/it might have been fixed.

Secondly, can someone make a guide for/point me to a guide for weaving of base items (particularly those magic ruin looking spires)?

To paraphrase Arbiter Warrant - the devs read ALOT more than they post. But no, at the moment we don't have a designated dev for base development; although to be fair I think Paragon has moved away from the whole "assigned dev" thing across the board.

I haven't touched base building in quite some time, so i had a few questions for the community in general, two of which deal with base building and one of which deals with the forums.

Thirdly, and maybe most importantly, do we have any devs who even look at this forum anymore? I know that a long time ago, in the mists of a time long past, we wrote to ExLibris, got a legitimate stacking tool put into the game (i understand it's not perfect, but it's better than the old desk method) And i believe we had a forum dev or a dev in general assigned to us. I know from hearsay that the base code is a horrible pile of spaghetti code, with no comments, things that barely work tacked on over and over again, and I know that this isn't the most monumental thing on the Dev's to do list, but might they be able to give us a little of their time? maybe post once in a while? Apart from some of the really really good mission designers, we are the only ones in the game who make anything passing for "Art" with our (read everyone but me) soaring architectural masterpieces. Would it be too much to ask for some bones to be thrown our way? (not in a literal sense please.) |
When you weave two spires together you want to do it with the curved part of the spires overlapping. If you do them back to back to back that way..with only one space you get a basic weave. Now to get a more complex weave you would do the same thing only have the spires facing the opposite direction...on top of the ones you already did... this makes a more complex weave.
I am going to log into CoH right now... and do some examples..and post the pics here... so much easier to SHOW you how to weave than explain... gimme a few minutes LOL!
OK so here are the basic instructions on how to weave:
See how I have the spires facing the same way... now fill that in with more spires and you get:
OK so that is a basic one directional weave.. now if you want to do something a lil more advanced:
Basically do the same thing only in the opposite direction and you get:
This is the beginning of a more advanced weave. Weaves can be as elaborate or as simple as you want them... See examples below:
Then once you reallly get used to that you can start using the Alt key to rotate things and also weave:
Spires are not the only things that can be weaved together... here I am weaving the arcane item: Stone Floor Cross
hope this helps you - if you have more questions please feel free to PM me here or in game
This is an example of bad spire work. You can't place them exactly right next to one another otherwise you get flicker which is annoying and imo shows a lack of creativity on the part of the designer. It's hard to see it in the pic..so I circled it...that's where the flicker is...you can of course cover this up with stones etc, but leaving it bare all flickering and stuff looks bad.
Weaves do not have to be a straight line...you can do them like this as well..which is what I do a lot of the time.
Toast, you should make that post into its own thread so we can get it stickied as a guide.

Bravo.

Weaving is actually very simple. Once you get the basic concept and "rules" (So yer not creating a flickerish monstrosity) then weaving is about your imagination
I do "teach" people how to base edit...I usually use skype as it's easier for me to be in an editor and them and go step by step on the "how tos."
Thanks a ton Toast, that has given me some great ideas for my base designs.
