What's with all the fire?
Fiery Aura handles fire damage really well and adds more to your damage potential than any other defensive power set. That's why fire damage is favored by AE farmers.

What's with all the fire? Why not energy damage, or psi damage, or cold damage, or good ol' smash/lethal?

Fire damage doesn't typically come with a debilitating secondary effect
You won't have to deal with Electricity's energy drain, Sonic's -resistance, Radiation's -defense, Energy's knockback, etc.
Fire Armor was designed to be offensively strong, at the cost of defense
Fire Armor still retains enough resistance towards fire, that it can cap resistance towards that type. It doesn't matter if you're weak to smashing if the enemies have none.
Personally I do both Fire Farms on my Fire Armor toons, as well as Smashing/Lethal farms on my Shield characters. There is nothing stopping anyone from farming energy damage heavy mobs (certainly doable), it just isn't as perfect a set-up as Fire Armor+Fire Mobs is.
Favorite Hero: Computer (Empathy/Energy Blast Defender)
Favorite Villain: Gimp Computer (Fire Control/Psionic Assault Dominator)
Furthermore, if someone is manually selecting powers as opposed to just picking Standard/Hard/Extreme, most fire based powers on custom critters have a higher xp worth than other damage types.

My City Was Gone
There are some Smash/Lethal and Energy farms out there. I have SS/Electric and Electric/Electric brutes that are both soft-capped to S/L damage, and they can handle either energy or S/L farms. My Fire/Fire tanker is similarly soft-capped to S/L damage and has no problems with S/L farms (but gets the End sucked out of him on most Energy farms).
The other thing to realize is that inspirations drop like rain: if your DPS is high enough, you can almost turn off your armor and just use inspirations for defense. You need to use conversions and it really helps to be level 50, but even level 20-30 characters can farm effectively by managing inspirations.
I haven't played a lot of AE missions, and decided to make a character (Ma Ae, Defiant villain brute, super-strength/electric) dedicated almost exclusively to running AE. I'm not really interested in farming, so of course the first thing I find is that almost all the missions are self-proclaimed farms. And every one I call up (the ones who don't call themselves farms) seems to be a farm with foes who use fire damage almost exclusively.
What's with all the fire? Why not energy damage, or psi damage, or cold damage, or good ol' smash/lethal? Suffice it to say electric armor doesn't handle fire damage well at low levels. I tried searching for missions "my level", but it doesn't seem to work. Just a gazillion level 1-54 fire farms. Well, it might be less than a gazillion, but that's all I've found so far.
Anyway, I see that there are other threads here providing some guidance to decent, sensical missions. I'll take advantage of that in the future. I'm still left wondering why people wrote so many stupid fire farms ...
