So last week I decided to give myself a new project to fulfill for the month;
Crazily i decided to try bring back a working blapper to the table.
Now I do warn you my build is overly OVERLY crazy... I've only just finished it (Minus the incarnates)
Something doesn't seem right and i feel im missing the point of survival aspect on a blaster completely.
Could anyone kindly point out why my blapper build isn't working as I had planned?

You are far above the soft cap on Smashing/Lethal defense and do not have enough energy defense.

Blasters can't really go for pure positional defense (unless you are making a ranged focus hover build, something that Rad/Fire is not cut out to do) so you should pick 2 or 3 positions and try to cap them instead. Smash/Lethal/Energy are the easiest 3 for blasters because of Scorpion Shield.

A large majority of melee ranged attacks also have a smashing or a lethal component that is checked for. You should be trying to get your S/L defense to 45% and your energy defense to 45% as well. If you can't quite get energy up to 45% then at least try to get it to 32.5% where a small purple inspiration will bring you to the soft cap for energy and will put you over the cap on S/L (giving you a pad against defense debuffs). With all the AoE a Rad/Fire puts out it should not be a problem, at all, to get, or combine, another small purple in the time the one you popped lasts.

Well the plan was to excel at playing in the melee danger zone as a blapper.

You can't stack enough res on blasters to get by without def. APP + Tough is scarcely 45% S/L. Add cardiac, the +3 res unique and some PVPIOs that have no other useful bonuses and you'll get 55%, max. Moderate levels of res like this only work when they're backed up by other defenses.

The icap is 59% def. That said, getting that much S/L def is impractical on a lot of builds and Energy def is important at least in trials because IDF, one of the major enemy groups in trials, have a lot of pure energy attacks (no S/L component). 45% S/L/E would be a lot tougher than 59% S/L and 0% E.

A blaster's biggest pitfall is lack of mez protection.

Most mezzes don't have a s/l or melee vector

This puts rad/fire at a difficult position since it would benefit greatly from having s/l defense but that alone would do little good if mezzes keep landing.

I have a rad/fire myself and I think I finally found a build that I'm satisfied with.

Thanks for sharing your build it looks great.. I see you've got Ranged and Energy capped which is great; I also noticed you've got Negative and AoE riding on close [especially for a popped small purple to soft cap too ]

Seeing as I want to be stubborn with all my Oblit's would be unwise to trade over the Scirocco's for them?

I decided to do some heavy lifting and did a compare and contrast with my potential would be adjustments [Again this is theory crafting, so this may not work out as well as I thought it would in the field]

I went scirocco's to get more end redux out and to shore up the AoE defense. Oblits aren't so hot in the end redux department and I know from my experience with elec/fire and rad/fire that all the pbaoes can be really taxing on the end bar.

What you have will do just as well though.
