And SR in a scrapper is about 95% DDR...so at that point 50% is very little...and DDR is typically non buffable resists...so...if you want your defense to pretty much stay what it is and as you plan for it...SR is the way to go...SD has far less DDR since the hami-O fix...but even then it is slightly more than EA...Invuln should likely be just a bit more than EA also...(IIRC)...my point was...if DDR is a high priority it is not in the conversation of Sets at the top of the list.

And the T9 also adds a crash that would likely kill you after it winds down when your Endurance bar is floored and all your toggles drop. I do not believe in T9's with a crash...I have no use for them at all. If my build fails me without the T9 and it's crash, it will fail me with it. There are only 2 Tier 9 defensive powers I consider at all useful at this point based on my criteria for what they should accomplish: Moment of Glory and the Stalker Ice Armor T9 (ABSOLUTELY NOT THE TANK VERSION)...the T9 should be a buff that allows me to get "unstuck" and leverage enough of my survivability to get back on top or even in battle. It should be that powerful that I know I will be able to recoup just enough to keep going. I don't consider a 2-3 min. super buff that crashes in the middle of something big, or important, and kills you...at all useful. I would much rather have a 15 sec godmode than a 2-3 min version that kills you with regularity.

BTW: Using Barrier to mitigate that crash is NOT something I even consider an option either...if I am using Barrier, it should be because I NEED barrier at that moment, because I am swimming in enemies and my other mitigation is down...NOT because I was a jackwagon, clicked a T9 and am about to crash...Barrier is typically better than any T9 defense power out there anyway...

Does this still work with the T9 crash for /EA?

Haven't tried in the last months but there's no reason it shouldn't anymore, AFAIK.

It's not something everyone is guaranteed to be able to do, and I would wager even people good at it mess it up every once in a while, but if you manage it properly, EA is very, very strong.

Yeah, I'm well aware of SR's awesome DDR; I have a 50 MA/SR a couple % points shy of iCap.

I also have a 50 KM/EA. Given the other tools available, DDR has only rarely been an issue, and the few times it has a purple corrects.

The t9 crash for EA is manageable if you watch the icon flicker out and have good timing. Perf Shifters help too.

You've got some interesting ideas; good luck w/ your pick.

I am going to try using Energy Drain to counter the end loss, it is an interesting idea and would make my DB/EA capable of taking on pretty much anything

Still only level 12 at the moment though so results wont be quick

My gripe with soloing AV's especially with /SR is the when their strike breaker triggers, which it will by game design, seemingly EVERY time at some interval during the fight I get two shotted. Two hits, back to back, no time to respond, GG. I'm probably not slotting enough +HP bonuses in order to live past the two hits, but either way if their alpha lands I don't have enough anyway. But in my opinion, for the average build, your success is determined by the whim of the RNG.

Willpower or Invulernability is probably the best way to go.

Given this objective, I'd recommend a fire/dark or grav/dark troller instead. To summarize why in short, you proc out the ST immobilize and hold with several procs and the fast recharge/low end cost allows you to alternate and spam those attacks consistently without having to worry about endurance. Furthermore, once the AV is mezzed containment will add in that extra damage. Let's also consider the Hybrid slot. By going into the direction of control, you will get (assuming all hybrid powers are toggles) a toggle that adds a psionic damage proc for ALL mezzed targets (I believe 75% chance) and another 75% chance to deal psionic damage for all targets with low health.

Factor in the radial reactive with fire damage over time, 2-3 procs each in the ST immobilize and hold, tar patch for -30% resistance, twilight's grasp for a super heal with a -regen debuff, howling twilight which debuffs regen by around 500% for 30 seconds, fade + shadow fall allow you to hit soft cap def to all damage, or even positionals as well as high resistance numbers, soul absorption gives +rec/regen, you also get pets for extra damage, the fuzzy for more -tohit debuffs, darkest night for -damage debuff, and patrons/epics (like scorpion) which give poison beam (or something similar) that debuffs resistance even more.

Going back to the original question, while a scrapper is likely to solo AVs, a controller, specifically a /dark controller with a primary that has a quick animating T1 immobilize and T2 hold will more than likely be able to solo AVs at lvl 54, let alone lvl 50.

Just my input for AV soloing/hunting. (Sorry in advance for that really long sentence that constitutes the second paragraph)

Edit: Just soloed a pylon in about 1:40ish on my fire/dark troller, only had T3 alpha and T2 of all the other incarnate slots (rares just wont drop from the trials). And this fire/dark troller wasn't even built specifically for AVs.

I'm sorry, can you give more info here? Or post a build? Or describe if you had a taunt bot taunting the pylon off you? I couldn't get <5min times on my Dark/Dark troller with multiple pets (including APP) and I know others in the same boat.

If you can describe more how you managed this, it would be helpful.

Here it is. Key is just spamming ring of fire and char, fade is perma so defense more than enough to tank a pylon where i rarely get hit, or my pets for that matter with the -tohit. Endurance is slightly an issue with the build so I needed the t2 ageless, but again, this build is meant to do some serious aoe carnage as well as solo AVs, by getting scorpion patron you can get poison ray and solo pylons even faster.

Edit: Also, of course, spam howling twilight whenever it's up for the -regen and set tar patch and such. Ideally you want to attack as much as possible, but also keep the -regen from twilight grasp stacked at least twice for -100% regen on the pylon, but you certainly shouldn't need a taunter.

For anyone who's interested, here's a sample (mid's build) of what an AV hunting fire/dark troller would look like. I'm 99% positive that this build would be able to take on just about any lvl 54 AV and win. Should definitely be able to solo pylons in under 2 mins.

Clarion/Ageless would be needed depending on AV being fought. If AV has mez, clarion fixes that situation and if it doesn't, ageless is the way to go. Can't really imagine how fast it would kill AVs with the control hybrid (essentially another interface damage proc, though might be even better). Having 3 imps, a tarantula, T4 cimerorans, and dark servant would be really fun as well

Welp, color me impressed. I wonder how much dmg is coming form fire cages as well and/or from pets? This is making my dark/dark/leviathan feel gimp with his 5min+ times ....

Immobs are a major source of damage with reactive.... If you can spam immob, and you go immob -> pit -> sleet -> storm you can amass quite a lot of damage to pretty much everything.
