Leader AT+pri/sec reccomendatiions.
A Sonic/Sonic defender is good to go by 16ish. 3 st attacks, a cone, and most of the important Resonance powers. Solid +res for your team, some mez resists, and you can lay down -100% res on particular targets, assuming you get them with everything.
Bots/Traps. It bloody well is a team. Tank? Bodyguard mode, check. Buffs? FFG and Leadership, check. Debuffs? Acid mortar and poison trap, check. Damage? Laser light show FTMFW.
Who cares what the team makeup is when you can solo everything?
Where to now?

Any of the VEATs works well as a leader. You get your own buffs as well as the Leadership Pool for double the fun. Also, you can dual-build to adapt to your team. If there's no Tank around you can go melee-heavy and fill in. If the team needs fire support go for more ranged powers especially on a Widow or Crab.
Plus playing them alone is never dull after lvl 12...
"Comics, you're not a Mastermind...you're an Overlord!"
the FF/fire could work (buffs and damage).
VEAT's and Khelds.
anything could work really, as long as the AT has some flexibility
a Rad, Dark Miasma, or Cold..hell, maybe it'd be better to say what i wouldn't use.
I probably wouldn't choose a tank, blaster, or stalker.
perma jump is ---> /up 1
I've got two reactions:
Knee-jerk first response - Doesn't matter, It's the player I'm following, how they organize and do things with whatever AT they are playing.
Second - probably any 'support' AT. But said AT had best rapidly fill whatever somewhat nebulous "organize and do things" I expect or ... I'm perfectly fine following a scrapper who seems to know the game and mechanics of the team well.

Edit: Any nervousness I feel has more to do "initially" with my AT and the team makeup vs whatever mission(s) we are attempting probably than who's the leader (who may or may not be the star)
My AT, thinking about it more, doesn't have as much to do with it as how familiar I am with my AT ... if its one of my Empaths, Earth controllers or SR scrappers there's very little I'm going to be 'nervous' about regardless of my level and therefore the less I'l concerned I'll be about team makeup, leadership quality etc.. Then again as a long time player very little gets me nervous period, sometimes the total chaos of a poorly organized and led team can be ... entertaining
Fortunatas and Crabs are particularly suited to a wide variety of roles on a team and when built well they aren't really vulnerable to anything, either.
Tanks or tank-y Brutes (well built Invuln or Stone, especially) and quality Defenders or Corrupters are always going to be able to coalesce a team around them if they want. I always find I'm really, really popular when I log in with Kinetic buffs, for example.

A Radiation defender might be a good choice- You can debuff tohit and damage and you have a fairly fast cycling AOE heal and ally rez. Dark Miasma might be more defender-y and useful for your purposes with the mass ally rez and more reliable -tohit, but Radiation will be better if say, you're stuck on a team trying to down an AV and everyone is struggling. Recall Friend would be a useful level up power to consider along with the Leadership toggles for both sets. For secondaries, Dark Blast is a good choice for the -tohit and controlly aspects but I personally prefer Sonic for obvious reasons.
In my attempt to make Redside more lively, I've been rolling alt capable of leading teams.
So far my main ones are a WP/Axe and a Force Field/Fire. My stalker is starting to mature enough to be able to lead and take alphas, but I'm looking for more ideas.
What I'm looking for is combinations and concepts that can serve as good team centers. Ideally should mature early.
Yes, I know in this game any team makeup can work. But what I'm aiming at is combinations and playstyles that can remove the nervousness and initial doubt most teams have and encourage them to jump in and hurt stuff. Specially in the lower levels.
