wireless connection
The internal wireless card on my laptop works... okay-ish for running CoH on an older Netgear 2000 series router. Using it on a different floor of my house causes some interference, though.
I don't know enough about USB wireless adapters to be able to confirm their utility.
On the other hand, my preference is to always go wired when I can (hence the 10m Ethernet cable I have that allows me to run anywhere in the house).
Sorry I can't help more than that.
The wisdom of Shadowe: Ghostraptor: The Shadowe is wise ...; FFM: Shadowe is no longer wise.

ya I would go hardwired if I could but somone is sick of the computer on the kitchen table .
It does have the max signal tho
Wireless can be really REALLY arcane. Because you're not just dealing with:
- Signal Strength
- Proper channel
- Correct authentication
Plus you have to worry about some things you have zero control over.
Such as propagation of your neighbor(s) wireless and how it interferes with yours, signal reflection, etc.
In my experience, USB wireless adapters are generally complete and total trash. I'd definitely go with an internal wireless card if you could (definitely go with an 802.11n and router, dual channel if possible, because 5GHz often has less interference than 2.4GHz).

i first off check to see that you have the lates firmware for the router. also check that you dont have it open to anyone that want to use it. (leaches).
if the firmware up to date then check the wifi radio settings most routers default setting are to use 54 max sprrd and be able to connect to b/g devices. if the pc the only wifi in the house set it to n only. two things to check and try is if you have cordless phone try changing cordlass phone channel or the default channel on your wifi router....the last issue could be the chipsets not playing together there two major wifi chipset out there broadcam and aeroes(sp). depending on drivers and fimware some time the two chipsets work fine and sometimes they dont. also with 3 party firmware like open wrt you can change the output signal strenth on some chipset..vendors also make a higher power usb and pci cards for people that have to have there pc a good distance or floors between the router and the desktop.
Well just got back from Frys with a new n900 dual band adapter from netgear so it matches the router lol ya I know it dont matter but what the heck.
Loaded it up and logged into the 5ghz and giving it a go so far so good in 10 min no mapserves yet.
It all has upto date firmware, I have no home phone service I only use a cell. And I pimped out all the settings when I configured the router
Thanks for all the help and I am gona play a few hours and see how it goes.
I have a netgear WNDR3700v3 router that I have used flawless for the last 4-5 months hardwired to my computer. I recently needed to move my computer to a different room and had to go wireless
I am useing a dlink usb adapter to connect its the newest one out by them. And am constantly getting short mapserved messages that last from 10 sec to 2 minutes.
do you think going with an internal wireless card will improve this or are the usb ones just as good ?
