The good: Show Only Free Costume Pieces
Nice checkbox!
... except, on a character using only the base pieces (and Vanguard pants,) on a costume he's had since before Freedom... it put him entirely in generic grey tights. oops. (Plus it seems to have reset the head/face options completely, other than that... that gets fairly irritating.) |
1) I can easily and simply see if an item requires a payment and not use it.
2) When have they ever made a new option that worked perfectly, even if it's supposedly simple?
I just knew that would be buggy.
That's exactly what the prompt says it will do when you check the box: "Unpurchased pieces will no longer be visible for selection. Costume will be reset. Are you sure?" So I'm not sure this is a bug, but it sure is annoying. It would be far preferable if it would clear only unowned pieces, if that's at all possible.
During double experience point weekend, I got my corruptor to level 36. Today, I completed the story arc to unlock auras. But, when I went to the tailor and added an aura, I was alarmed to see that my character's cape, which I had unlocked at level 20, was gone... and there was no option available for a cape.
I burned a few free tailor coupons while fumbling around, trying different ideas to get my cape back--to no avail. Finally, I noticed the checkbox about show only free costume pieces. I clicked on it, and--voila'--the option for a cape was available again.
But, the colors for the cape exterior and interior appeared to be different from what I had defined before. Plus, the brooch and mantle were not as I had defined them. At least, I think so. I fumbled around so much, trying to fix things, that I'm not sure.
The point is, the show only free costume pieces checkbox seemed to mess up my character's cape.

Just another new systems that breaks things that worked well enough before.
"Just keep patching that tire after it goes flat again, Devs. It may not go flat as fast or faster next time. /snicker"
The problem is, the checked box is CHECKED by default. So when I enter a tailor the first time on a character, costume pieces are changed automatically. Unchecking the box then reentering the tailor window will fix it. The box should be UNCHECKED by default in my opinion. Also, if I switch characters, the box will be rechecked. I don't understand the need for this. With the box set to be check by default, new players will not know there are other costume pieces they can purchase.
Edit: To be more precise, I don't see a reason for this feature to have been added in the first place. I never seen anyone in the game say they would like such a feature. Were players on the forums asking for it? Or was it something random the developers decided to do?
Personally as a premium I have purchased all costume sets/pieces except auras. I don't mind seeing things I have not bought yet so I can stay reminded that there are more options. (In fact, the other day I went to a trainer and entered the costume creation window and decided to purchase 1 of the auras I didn't have yet through the costume creation window.) Like I said, it would be nice to have the box unchecked by default and let players decide to hide locked/unpurchased items. Big reason is, if you don't notice your shield or weapon automatically changed, you will end up paying inf for the change only to realize it after, then have to pay more inf to change it back to the one you want. Use your heads devs.
I had purchased the Roman costume bundle when it was available in the shop. What I don't understand is that, with the box checked to only display free items, only Roman Shield 1-4 are available but not the Romulus Nictus or Spartan Shield which were included with the costume bundle. Although the full Roman costume pieces on my character are available.
This feature was not thought through very well nor was it implemented well either.

And yes, it was actually asked for. I do remember it being asked for a time or two on the forums.
The characters I've tried had it unchecked as a default as well. Both at the trainer and facemaker.
I don't really care for this item, and don't understand the logic about it for NCsoft. They earn money though the store, so it would be in their interest to keep unlockable pieces visible at all times. It's only a small percentage of all the costume pieces, most of it is available by default.
The system is somewhat inconsistent in which locked pieces it shows any way. Some things only show up after you've bought them.
Strange....
The box checked itself for me after I pressed "load" to check my saved costumes and backed out without loading, or when I initially went to the super-tailor in the back room of Cap Au Diable on my Fortunata.
This is odd. I know I never touched the option.

Edit: For me it is not just trainers but also regular tailors where the box is already checked when I enter the costume creation window.

Takes very little, and a non-irritated customer (even if the irritation might be slight) is a much happier (and more willing to spend money) one.
Tried to duplicate that and couldn't.
Went to create a new character today and had same problem in the costume creation window during creation: the "show only free costumes" was checked already. Seems I am the only player with this problem judging by other posts here.
For me it isn't random. It is every single time I enter the costume creation window the box is already checked at first. Although it seems to stay unchecked for the duration I play on the character after unchecking it, but when I log back in or switch characters it's checked again. Very annoying.
Ok, there is a pattern.
This option is checked every time I go to the tailor for the first time on a character during that play session.
If I log out, I have to uncheck the box at the tailor when I first visit after logging in.
I assume it is because of my account status as Premium/Free that explains why VIPs do not see this.
Either way, it's annoying.

Hmmmm....
I have that old, old trial account I used to use to see if names were being freed. Think I know the PW for it still...
... and yes, it's checked when I hit the tailor for the first time.
