Do stalkers have a place in the world?

Long time player, not often a poster

Thought about this thread quite a lot as it's something I've pondered for a long time. Especially lately as I've returned to the game after a break and considering making a DM/EA stalker

However...

There just doesn't seem to be a place for Stalkies aside from casual solo play or small teams, they instantly feel underpowered

Very stuck on what to make for a new full time alt due to this, there definitely is a prejudice against stalkers - I know this as I for one have a large one against them! I'd much rather have a scrapper in my team than a stalker anyday

Have you played a stalker since the changes? I haven't encountered even a single vaguely negative comment about the AT in-game since i22. My stalker doesn't feel at all underpowered even on large teams, either.

My stalker has been carrying teams almost as well as my brute, and that's saying a lot.

I've played my DM/EA up to around lvl 20 and it is indeed much more fun than it used to be, I'm still on the fence about stalkers though... unsure whether I want to keep playing it in fear of being disappointed (also, the animation times for siphon life & midnight grasp are irritatingly long, doesn't flow like shadow punch / smite do)

Apart from having the advantage of dealing the low-resisted NE damage type, DM is quite survivable against single hard targets which is something EA lacks at times(you won't get to fully feed Energy Drain off a single target, and DM's -ToHit covers things).

The only weakness is AoE, but that can be managed by taking Fire Ball and perhaps even Spring Attack(which doesn't break hide). Fire Ball can be made to trigger the +50% crit very often with the new Stalker's Guile proc, as with high recharge it fits right into the 10 seconds timeframe, so your AoE won't be half bad once you get it.

Stalker's Guile ATO set has a proc which puts you in hide mode for a crit on your next attack. However that proc cannot go off twice in a 10 second period.

None of the new set really lack in AOE compared to the their Scrapper/Brute/Tanker counterparts. They might lack a little, but not a lot. With a cone being the attack replaces now, instead of the PBAOE that most people prefere (and imo teds to have the better animation).

Electric Melee? That's just better on Stalkers period. All the AOE and better ST damage than the others.

They are a bit squishier than the other melee ATs, but there are ways to make that less of an issue.

As for the flow of Siphon Life and Midnight Grasp on your Stalker. Well, those have been the heavy hitters of DM for a long time now, on all the Dark Melee ATs. Stalkers just got a new heavy hitter in DM to go with them though

If you like a set that "flows" better, I would suggest MA. DM has a narrow cone but it's not the best pbaoe in the word. If you don't mind a set with no AoE, MA may be better for you.

What's left is to normalize all Assassin Strikes and improve Stalker's old sets (Claw, MA and EM)! You don't need to bring back the missing PbAoE attack. You just need to make the existing ones better! For example, make Slice a WIDER and LONGER cone.
