TW/Elec - Is it possible?

Hi all,

I have just come back from a few months away (I left when Incarnates hit) and am liking the look of the new Titan Weapons set (Actually I like the weapons and the stats, but stuggling to match them to a character yet because they are so HUGE).

I haven't had much time to play around with builds just yet because I am still re-familiarising myself with the actual game, but I am looking for a TW/Elec build with the following*:

  • I-capped defence when Shadow Meld is up (So 20-30% as standard) with <30s recharge on Shadow Meld
  • Perma-Hasten (Ideally perma-Energise but I am pretty sure thats not gonna happen)
  • Travel Power
  • Ideally sustainable endurance, but I hear that is very hard with TW even using Power Sink
  • PvP 3% resist IO if there is room
I am not really short on cash so money is genuinely no object and you can put as many PvP and purple IO's in as you need, but I haven't got to grips with any incarnate content yet so not sure what ATIO's do (Or how to get them - but iirc correctly the scrapper proc increases crit rate so is awesome?) and haven't yet looked at what the incarnate powers would help me with.

So while I look into the incarnate powers and attack chains and stuff I would really appreciate any help you can give

*My 2nd choice is TW/Nrg but I would want 45% defence normally and I-capped under Shadow Meld and I am not sure which would be the most survivable because of the poor resists on /Nrg. All I know is that I left because I was sick of my standard softcap /shield toon getting smashed to bits so I want something that will last longer in I-content.

First attempt has managed the defence but not enough recharge (And I doubt enough endurance because I never paid attention to that and realised my toggles are not reduced at all!), and I would love to be able to free up some of the attack slots for -res procs:

As I said in though I haven't looked at how much the incarnate powers will change the build yet, I may have to pick the one that helps with endurance (Cardiac?) but still need to check those out.

There is also the clickie one to consider that gives iirc ~3.5% defence at all times (Starts big but never goes below ~3.5%) which will help me free some slots, but at the cost of having to stop for another click.

At least the survivability is looking roughly like I hoped

Agility Alpha would help you achieve all your goals. It adds end mod (Not end redux), recharge and def buffs.

A 3 slotted superior ATO set adds 5% def to S/L and 2.5% to melee. So if you split them between 2 powers (3 and 3) you can get +10% S/L and +5% melee.

Anyways here's a build that might meet several of your requirements. It does need the Agility Alpha but it has perma Energize, Hasten is 0.5s off perma. Slot the superior ATO set in Whirling Smash. Shadow Meld has a 23s recharge and with it active, everything is incarnate softcap except F/C (58.5%). Enhancement Boosters are used in Hasten/Energize. I have no experience in TW so not sure how your endurance will work out.

Thanks ricohdah, given me some more things to think about.

I am pretty confident I can reach my goals (Where I wasn't before) so now am starting to look to see if I can slot -res procs into my attacks for added awesome.

Has anyone got to hand the best chain for TW and the recharge I need in each power to manage it?

I would assume a perma-energise build should have enough, but you never know and it has been so long since I did this stuff that my maths is failing me

Whirling Smash has 5 pieces of the Scrapper ATIO set for the 10% recharge and 5% melee defence.

What I am now trying to do is work in as much endurance as I can while trying to get that extra bit of recharge as well, but I sense that I am going to have to get used to the animation of Power Sink (4 seconds! - Shame it can't benefit from Momentum lol) even with Energize and the Agility Core Paragon.

Other changes that I need to work out are if the slotting from Rend Armor and Crushing Blow are best swapped (For the best uptime of Achilles' Heel) and tweaking the 5 slotted powers to see which IO is best left out.

If anyone can add anything though it would be appreciated as always.

New question for those who know: Is it better to put the damage proc in Lightning Field or the -res proc?

If they check every 10s (Which I am sure they do) then the -res proc is better in an attack, so I kinda answered my own question lol.

My current build makes the recharge requirements (With Ageless) and probably the endurance too, though I haven't calculated that. However I was working off the ATIO set giving 5% melee defence and I think it is only 2.5%.

The build is therefore short of the I-cap by .7% to melee, but not only am I not happy with that but I want to push the defence into the 30's to all positions without losing any defence.

The build is below, and I need to find out what difference +5's will make, but I am not sure how to calculate that?

The one change I may make is the Force Feedback proc in Whirling Smash - that may end up as a damage proc, or a +build up proc in Dark Blast - depending how the set plays out at level 50. So if you need a slot to play around with that is the one I would sacrifice first. I guess Follow Through could make do with 5 slots too.

By my calculations I have only a 0.138s gap in the Rend Armor > Follow Through > Dark Blast > A o D > Follow Through chain, which I am assuming Ageless will cover, and I am going by heresay that there is no redraw when in Momentum which is why I am including Dark Blast instead of Crushing Blow (That also makes me happier because I had wanted to get a -res proc into Crushing Blow, but if I am not using it then I don't care as much).

I think this will work out at ~269 dps, including Lightning Field but not including the -res procs as I still have to figure out how to include those.

So can anyone help with the defence?

Edit: I just noticed that swapping the Def/Rech LoTG in Shadow Meld for a Def LoTG covers the melee shortfall, but still doesn't make me happy.

Edit 2: Now that I think of it I would like the defence to be 32.5% to all if possible, which makes me only a small purple from the normal softcap and stops me having to use Shadow Meld in regular play.

Edit 3: And now I am wishing they hadn't fixed Enzymes because that would probably cover all my issues.

I will probably drop Super Jump and take Power Surge instead, that can hold the Glad Armor 3% and a Glad Armor End/Res will go in Tough for a few more % S/L resist.

It is also another nice panic button because I hate dying, and it leaves me with no holes to any type of damage - even psi and toxic!

I have realised that I only have 4 10% recharge bonus' so far, so I will actually use the Scrapper ATIO set in Rend Armor instead.

But I am struggling to improve the defence

I cannot find many threads about this combination - does nobody use it? Or have all the scrapper build guru's gone these days?

Actually making that last build gave me just the inspiration I need!

I ended up dropping Tactics for Power Surge, so hopefully the confuse and fear can be mitigated with the extra defence.

The Scrapper ATIO set is 5 slotted into Rend Armor, all normal IO's are +5 (With the 2nd slot from Power Sink being free to swap into Hasten if I need to - though 2 +5's would almost sap a +0 enemy which would be nice):

You may be struggling to find help with this combo because Resist armors favor Brutes, and to some degree, TW does too. Momentum really plays into the Fury mindset very nicely.

I agree that TW is very brutish, for me it is the right combination of chasing something, but not having to worry about breaks or it having too much of an effect (I hate chasing fury on a brute at lower levels so much I have never got out of the teens on one).

However I find the mere presence of Shadow Meld in the scrapper epic pools to mean resistance sets are actually better on a scrapper. I certainly wouldn't swap my i-capped defence for 15% energy resist and a few hundred hitpoints anyway.

Still I did get some of my inspiration from threads on the brute forum so that does seem to be where the discussion is, but there still aren't many people talking about it.

I have realised that I will need 2 +5 recharge IO's in Hasten, so I stole one from Power Sink (And will make the remaining EndMod there a +5). I also thought I best get some +ToHit so I swapped the LoTGefence in Combat Jumping for a Kismet:ToHit - which means I will have to +5 the LoTG:Recharge to keep my defence numbers.

I can't get mids to only show certain IO's as +5 so I left them all at level 50, and as before the Scrapper ATIO set is in Rend Armor:

Because the defence comes almost entirely from set bonus' there is very little difference made if I +5 even the entire build (~0.3%). Resistance could increase by ~1% across the board, but I am not yet sure how hard it would be to +5 all my resistance IO's (And I know level 53 HO's won't be cheap!) so I may or may not bother with that.

Having downloaded the new mids Dark Blast is showing about half the damage it used to, so I need to test that in game, but I am assuming (Hoping) there is an error in mids using the ranged modifier instead of the melee one.

If Dark Blast is indeed awful then I will move the slots from there into Defensive Sweep (Which I will change to Crushing Blow) and make do with 7.5% less global recharge from losing the LoTG (And of course the DPS hit). I will also swap Dark Blast for Moonbeam, to give me the option of pulling.

However that aside I have become probably the only IO'd out scrapper to 6 slot Power Surge, but I have met all my goals without having to +5 anything (Which is good because previously I was +5ing for added defence, but since that almost entirely comes from set bonus' it was adding very little [~0.3 to all if every defence IO was at +5], now I can use my +5's on my AoE powers for extra damage! - Or maybe for extra EndRdx if I need it).

There WAS an error in Mids that made it count all the crit chances together on epic attacks, including the guaranteed crit from Hide that Stalkers get (yes, even though you were looking at it on a scrapper). This made its displayed average damage much too high, and appears to now be corrected. Now it's not showing the crit chance at all, so the average damage is 10% lower than it should be, but the power never did the extremely high damage that the previous version of Mids said it did.

I didn't think Mids took crit chance into account at all, even the Critical toggle doesn't seem to change anything.

Still that is a little annoying to know but my alternate plan is good enough.

Mids does account for criticals. You can see this by mousing over an attack's damage; it breaks the damage into its component hits and their chances. You're right that the toggle doesn't do anything, though.

Grr just realised that I have worked the 3% resistance IO out of my build, so now I need to free up another slot or move more stuff around

I just started one of these the last day of dbl expees and I have a slightly different build. You have more ranged/aoe defense, but my build might give you some ideas. I get more resistances (psi is at a respectable 48.5%) and better end coverage overall (0.46 better recovery and 9 more end). I also have given some slotting to Defensive sweep so it's more offensive. I also managed to get a near perma Widow to add to the damage/fun.
Most of the other differences are minor one way or another such as you have more tohit and I have more acc.

Have a look, it might give you a different angle.

Out of curiosity, why are you opting for Crushing Blow over Defensive Sweep? I know you have lots of Defense in your build as it is, but you have no Def debuff resistance. Is there an optimal attack chain reason for it?

Can you get enhancement boosters? If so I suggest making your build with +5 enhancement boosters (you can set it to +5 under slots/enhamcenets->set relative level to-> +5)and see if you can spare a slot or two from places (on my SR scrapper I manage to get a slot from hasten and manage to get rid of fully slotted maneuvre and 1 sloted combat jumping by increasing all enhancements to +5's). Also for a scrapper muscularate is too sweet to pass up not to mention TW is a set that will benefit from that damage bonus more than any recharge bonus.

EDIT: A few quick looked through your last build.

1) TW is better with AoE so I would suggest getting defensive sweep first and slot it well it is also a power that boosts your defense and recharges fairly fast
2) You don't need to six slot hecatomb that much of toxic res won't change anything significant and it will allow you to share a slot.
3) Rend is not best place for scrapper ATO for two reason. You wan't it either 3-3 in two powers or all 6 in one power unlike toxic, s/l is everywhere and even %.25 res makes a difference.
4) focus on either positional or typed defense your build have numbers too close with each other.
5) Instead of multistrike either get eradication or obliteration defense bonuses are better in either and both of them have more useful set bonuses than multistrike.
