Mid=priced Elec/Shield: help me replace BotZ

I set off to make an Elec/Shield that would be "mid-price", although that's a relative term

I basically defined it as no purples, no PvP, so that I can get most pieces relatively easily from hero merits or regular merits.
I would consider HO's but didn't find a spot where it would be really worth it (not worth the price in Grant Cover for example)

I wanted the ability to stealth, I'm weird that way.

I wanted lots of recharge without using purples, so that my AoEs are up as much as possible. I took Pyre because Fireball is the highest damage, fastest recharging (my next choice was Mu but this is a Hero and I wasn't sure I felt like going to the Red side to pick a Patron, and the damage was not as high. Still an option since you get an ST and AoE without "wasting" a slot for Char/Ring of Fire)

I threw in +HP and +regen where I could and tried to be conservative with endurance, I want to exemplar with this build so I don't want to rely on my alpha for endurance

The hardest thing for me is to gauge how endurance (un)friendly this build will be.


Anyway, I'm not happy about using two sets of Blessing of the Zephyr, especially when I don't need the KB protection and they're quite expensive.

Any idea how to fix it? I would take Superspeed for stealthing, and use Maneuvers for +def at the expense of another toggle though.

finally, I have a Scrapper ATO proc, I don't yet fully understand how they work but I think I'll replace one of the Force Feedback Procs with it. I don't see myself using a full set, the +Rchg would be good, but the other bonuses are not great.

Very cheap, soft capped Ranged, Melee and AOE. This is playing COH on "easy" mode. Boring toon really, I don't play him much any more but there are many who like the game with such an easy to play AT. Buildup + LS + SC = dead spawn. Rinse, repeat. Yawn.

Aid Self is helpful for when the RNG wins the die roll which isn't often.

You could add the ATO and maybe some enhancement boosters to get the recharge up a bit, but build has decent DPS without it and you've got 127% recharge with Hasten. Body Mastery + set bonuses gives you enough endurance that you can pretty much choose whatever iPowers you want.

Not the exact powers you want but maybe it will give you some ideas. Throw a Celerity into Sprint for stealth, etc and I think you could get there with this.

You have so many attacks (and 4 of them AOE's given Spring Attack thrown in there) that it looks like you are building a farming toon. If that's not the case, I'd say you've gone a bit overkill on AOE's. At +4/x8, BU+your two primary AOE's takes out all minions and usually Lieuts also. Bossess just need a few hits each to take them down with your ST attacks. Your remaining AOE's in your build, while useful, aren't really going to see a lot of action outside of farms. But its your build so do as you wish. Mine certainly has fewer attacks than does yours, but still sufficient to remove all obstacles.

Your additional attacks also means you are going to burn more END. Something else to keep in mind if you are contemplating a non-Cardiac Alpha post 50.

I "fell into" the attacks out of trying to use set bonuses.
I have never used Spring attack and it seems to theme well with the other two AoEs (although its recharge time is horrendous).
I did intend to make an AoE toon, hence my choice for fireball, although I was not going for a farming build (my few feeble attemps at farming in the pat bored me to death). I tend to enjoy the feeling of melting large mobs around you and my other scrapper is single target oriented.

I'll take a closer look at your build when I get a chance. I tend to avoid Focused Accuracy, especially on End heavy build. It uses more endurance on its own than Deflection+Battler Agility+ Weave combined.
The good news is that it's not central to your build, so I can easily leave it out or even take it and leave it off until running into blinding foes or foes that kill your accuracy.

Yeah I don't run FA all the time. Its situational. Since end-game is mainly Tips missions and iTrials, I have found it useful when fighting Longbow or stacked Veng Nem spawns. Those are very common in Hero Tips missions. Otherwise, I leave it off.

END recovery on the build I posted is pretty high. I mainly went with that pool not for FA but for Physical Perfection. That covers your +Recovery. Of course, I'd have preferred to grab Pyre or Mu as well but like I said, stuff melts fast enough with my AOE from primary and secondary and then I've got T4 Judgement Ion as a massive AOE. So I do fine without it.

Have fun...like I said, this is a very "easy mode" toon to play. Its more for grins and giggles than really having to work at the game. That's what other builds are for...this one is just for when you want to feel like you are cheating. :-)

Alright, I got inspired by your build while trying to keep what I liked in mine.
I decided to get rid of Spring Attack because it recharges too slowly and ends up being redundant with my two other AoEs, and get Jacobs Ladder instead, it's pretty good fast recharging damage and is almost a single target use because it's so narrow.

superspeed+stealth IO in sprint get me the invisibility I want.

Ball Lightning is less damage than Fireball and recharges slower but still gets me an AoE that is up twice as often as my other two AoEs, and by using a pool that gets its AoE with only one pre-requisite, I have room for Aid-Self.
Slotting is very tight, so if I decide I don't need another AoE I would drop Mu, go back to superjump and stealth because I like leaping better, and grab One-with-the-shield and spread the slots around.

I have most enhancements at lvl38 as it's the lowest level I would but. It'd allow to examp down to lvl35 and still retain bonuses.

I have no idea where to put the ATO proc since most attacks must be 6-slotted for their bonus. Probably would have to be Jacob's Ladder at the expense of that End Red


I'll probably have to go with Vigor for my alpha, Oblits are just a really bad set when it comes to endurance, and with that much recharge I can't spam T-Strike and Jacob's Ladder every time they're up without sucking wind fast, so it's either Vigor or Cardiac, but I like having the heal and regen improvement from Vigor too.

Destiny will probably be Barrier, but Rebirth with the +regen is an option too

II haven't decide on Judgment. I like the idea of Void for its damage debuff and it's another PBAoE, but Ion is fun and would give me a second ranged AoE.


EDIT: ignore the actual order the powers are taken, I need to rework that (Jacob's Ladder needs to be take earlier for example), I was working on slotting and bonuses for now.

As I learn more about ATOs I am warming to them a bit.

I catalyzed ATOs truly provide purple-level performance, then swapping out one of the sets of Oblits for the ATO may be a good better than I thought.

for one thing you get a lot more endurance reduction, so Thunderstrike would not be as expensive to use endurance-wise.

I'm also going to assume the Superior/catalyzed ATOs double the performance of the non-catalyzed ones, so I think the set bonus would be:

(2) Increases maximum health by 1.5%.-> 3%

(3) Increases lethal and smashing defense by 2.5% and melee defense by 1.25%.->2.5%
(4) Increases damage by 2.5%.-> 5%

(5) Improves the Recharge Time of all of your powers by 8.75%.->10% (not doubled)
(6) Increases Smashing and Lethal resistance by 2.21%. -> 4.5%

compared to using a set of Oblits, the big problem is that I lost 1.25% melee defense that I need to make up somewhere else and haven't quite figured out how.

Also,, I think the ATO procs are best slotted in single target attacks, but that makes making up the loss of ranged defense even worse.

I could split the ATO set in 3 catalyzed and 3 not so I get the first two bonuses twice:
increase max health: 1.5% + 3.5% = 5%
increase Melee defense: 1.25% + 2.5% = 3.75% = exactly what I had with the Oblit set

but I lose 3% damage buff and 5% recharge (and 9% accuracy I don't really care about). gain some HP.
Not sure how to quantify the damage for the proc vs the 3% I lose?

I'm going to switch Mu Bolt to Zapp, I probably wouldn't use an unslotted Mu Bolt anyway, so might as well get a higher range pulling power
