Question about MS raids in the League era

Went on my first MS raid in quite a while Saturday night, and I was curious about something. In the past, you got Vandguard Merit credit for any Rikti any member of your team did damage to. Has that changed to every member of the league gets credit for every Ritki defeated?

The reason I ask is two-fold. 1) I got a LOT more V-Merits than I ever remember getting on a single MS Raid, and 2) shortly after we hit the bowl, someting happened and I went from being on a 7-8 person team, to being the leader of a 2-person team (still in the league), which I then had to slowly rebuild with latecomers until we were back up to around 6, yet I still got a LOT more V-Merits than I ever remember getting on a single MS Raid.

My other question is, what happened to cause me to switch teams? Was that a quirk, or did someone in the league have to consciously switch me to a new team? I'm a veteran player and I've lead MS Raid teams in the past, so I don't mind it, I'd just kind of like to know why it happened.

I've asked into the League chat a couple of times about this very thing. Both times, I've been told that the V-merits were still based off what the team did, not the League as a whole. I can't offer any data either way.

I have also noticed that I've been raking in more V-merits now than pre-League Raids. I've rationalized it to be due to the generally larger Raid participation in this new era of Leagues. In addition, in the past, people seemed to huddle in the middle of the bowl and just fought the Rikti that teleport in. And during the lulls, taunt down the Maguses from the bowl's rim. Nowadays, I see a lot more dedicated herding of Rikti from the top of the ship into the bowl to really amp up the kill counts. I do this myself. (Tip: Tornado does a great job as a fire and forget herder!)

Pretty sure it's still team based. I believe merits drop from mothership Rikti 100% of the time even if you just do damage to it and it's defeated by anyone else who happens to be there. With the addition of incarnate pets, a good deal of people having Judgement abilities, or just larger and tougher groups fighting/hitting more Rikti with aoes, you're likely to notice more drops. Obviously that's not exactly scientific, but there haven't been any documented changes that I can recall.

That's why any kind of AoE power you can toss out is great. All my main Fire/Rad Controller has to do to rack up 600-800 Vanguard merits a raid is Hover in the middle of the Bowl, drop Fire Imps and Hot Feet and spam EMPs, Bonfires and Judgment Pyros. My little bits of damage added to everyone else's little bits of damage keeps everything dying at a nice steady rate.

Yup. Mind control's terrify also work wonders, as it's a GIANT cone that tags huge numbers of foes with a bit of damage...if you damage something, you gain partial credit for its defeat. So while you should help kill things, even the tiniest ticks of damage spread to as many Rikti as possible ups the V-merit haul your team gains within a league when the Rikti eventually get killed.

I would say no. The amount of Vanguard Merits I have been getting is significantly better than it used to be, but I attribute that to enhanced survivability from Incarnate powers and everyone (who is VIP) having access to a huge AoE attack from Incarnate powers.

If it had been changed to league credit, I would expect it to increase by a factor of SIX and it most definitely has not.

I do the herding regardless of archetype to boost my kill counts. Prep with a medium purple and a breakfree then toss AOEs around the top of the ship, then run like hell back to the bowl. Give the crowd a minute to take the aggro off me and go again.
