Fire/Fire tank help

After reading the posts here http://boards.cityofheroes.com/showthread.php?t=283020 I figured I really needed to revisit my fire/fire tank.

I seem to be having problems getting anywhere near the 40/45% softcap for S/L defence.

Can any one help with the build below and tell me what I have done wrong and what I should be doing? I can probably get rid of stealth for one (I know, i know, but I have my reasons for taking it ) and taking BA again.

There are a few things in your build, that for my preferences, I don't like seeing.

For my fire tanks I generally shoot for Typed Defense bonuses vs. Positional Defense bonuses. Most Typed bonuses can be found using 3-4 slots, where as most Positional bonuses are found by using 5-6 slots. Going for Typed gives me more flexibility.

Stealth, on a tank, while having it's uses will only provide 1/2 it's strength in defense once you've started fighting. If I want to "stealth a mission", that's what a +stealth IO in sprint could provide. Because I can grab the IO, for me Stealth is a waste of endurance. Maneuvers, which I don't recommend either, would at least give you better defenses in combat.

I'm aware that there's min.- maxing and there is "MIN.- MAXING", but for me 6 slotting LotG in Weave doesn't make sense. 4 slots give you 7.83 defense, while 6 slots give you 8.0 defense. Two more slots for a measly .17%? Those slots can be spent better in other places.

I'm also not a fan of Focused Accuracy. I think it's an endurance hog for what it provides. I prefer to drop a Kismet +6% to-hit IO into CJ.

Anyway, here's a different view on a Fire/Fire tank. This is by no means a perfect build, but this would be closer to my preferences. I threw the one very expensive PvP IO in there, but I generally don't use them in my builds. That slot would normally go in CJ for the Kismet +6%. I didn't shoot to get to the soft cap on anything, but I focused on getting within one small purple of the soft cap for s/l/e/n. This toon also has Barrier Destiny, which also adds 5% to the defense when it's at it's weakest.

Take a look and see if you like anything here, or even if you hate what I've done. If nothing else I hope it gives you some ideas from a different perspective.

I looked at your build and most of what rangle said I agree with. My fav tank is my FA/Fire tank and one of the things I point out to PPl is the KB prot most ppl over look. Here is my build for my tank.

To be honest, I only have 1 knockback proc in my fire tanker, the steadfast one, and i've yet to encounter any real difficulties. However, I can still put one in Super Leap if I do find myself in trouble, but as of yet, its a non issue for me. Or if you so prefer, use Acrobatics, thats a mag 8 or 9 knockback protection power (as well as low level mez, useful for squishies)

As far as the building goes, as Rangle and Lsk have pointed out, typed defense! I'm all for typed defense on a fire/fire tanker. My own is a fire/fire/pyre with defense to S/L/E/N and is an absolute beast. I've yet to come up with a good positional build I like.

This build has 47% S/L defense. Since Fire tankers have no inherent defense, you have to put I/Os that contribute the maximum to S/L defense in pretty much every power that you can put them in to hit the soft cap. This build uses some sets you may not have considered.

I generally don't like slotting sets that don't contribute to the primary aspect of a power, so the slotting of Mocking Beratement in Consume seems a little weird. But since you're probably going to be completely surrounded by lots of enemies, you'll max out on end received whenever you use it. Which means the primary consideration should be recharge and accuracy, and since there's a 45% global accuracy bonus what really matters is recharge, and that's maxed out.

That is a good build but i see a couple of issues with it first off Burn is a great power and I would of taken it lot sooner then at 49 if u plan on Exemping down. Second unless u just added it for the KB prot Temp Prot is not really needed for a fire tank since u can max out fire res and it gives u little bit cold res. Third your recharge is slower then most.
