At least bump that hard drive to a 10K RPM. You'll be happier.
Be well, people of CoH.
Hey,
I always find myself filled with enthusiasm surrounding Pc-builds. In no way do I intend to discourage you from this build, but did you also know that Intel Ivy Bridge Chips Launching Early April 2012 ?
Keep that in mind too. It might pain you to buy the second gen i5 2500k when the third gen is right around the corner. And, yes, I do agree the i5 2500k is a monster of a gaming chip- especially when OC'd.
You also might want to make sure your motherboard could in the future upgrade to Ivy 22nm architecture.
Don't be a mindless farm toon, we may need you on a non-soft SF someday. =)
Okay one thing.
A 1000W PSU?
Dude! Way, WAY too much PSU!
I could understand if you were going with a GTX 580 or something.
But you're going with a GTX 560.
If you go with separate PSU
And case
You can shave off about $50 from your build and a big chunk from your monthly power bills.
Also, is there a reason you went with the $200 bog standard Intel board over say something more featuresome from Asus or Gigabyte?
ESPECIALLY if, as you say, you're looking to OC?
Actually it won't save anything on his power bill, unless that PSU is really inefficient. It's not like it's producing 1000 watts all the time. With those parts, maybe 400 watts top with an overclocked CPU. Add a 2nd 560Ti and then we're talking 600 watts maybe. Add a couple 100 watts for a buffer and we are talking 600-800 watts as a PSU size.
Yes it's serious overkill. There was a review at VR-Zone of an overclocked i7-3960X at 4.8GHz running four overclocked HD 7970s and that topped out at just below 1000 watts AC (so somewhere between 800-900 watts DC) running Battlefield 3 at 5760x1080 at over 100FPS. So yeah, overkill.

Thanks for the replies guys. I did get that 700W PSU you linked, and it kept my case. What MB would you suggest going with, Hyper? Looking at other MBs now trying to find a decent replacement.
EDIT: Ended up finding a Asus board:

Thoughts?

If you are only going for 1 video card this MB should be more than enough.

I am not a beliver in "future-proof" btw, if you are not going with multiple video card now, its much cheaper to just get a board that supports 1 video card.
Its best to buy the same video card at the same time if you plan to crossfire/SLI. Its also a big price gouge to buy a board that supports it if you are not going to take advantage, plus if you wait a year there will be a single card solution which is just as fast and has less hassles than a Crossfire/SLI setup.
Cheaper on the PSU too. No need to overspend on something that's pure overkill. For single card anything much above 600W is purely a waste of money.

V: Brute 50, Corruptor 50, MM 50, Dominator 50, Stalker 50, AW 50, AS 50
Top 4: Controller, Brute, Scrapper, Corruptor
Bottom 4: (Peacebringer) way below everything else, Mastermind, Dominator, Blaster

Simply because the boards are cheaper and non-SLI doesn't mean they're going to perform worse.
As with Newchemicals, I believe that if you're planning on SLI/Crossfire, you do it from the beginning or not at all.
Agreed, not a bad single (realistically single) video card motherboard. Yes it has two full length PCIe x16 slots but only one is actually an x16 slot while the other is x4. CrossfireX can handle that kind of configuration, sort of, not as good as two x8 slots.

Alright guys, you might have seen my post a month back or so for a gaming rig around $1200.
I got (spouse >_>) approval and upped the budget to $1500. I would like to hear people's thoughts on the matter...
