Questions about SG's back in the Dark Ages....

I started back in June 2006, shortly after CoV came out. Back then, CoH and CoV were separate games, in order to play both you had to buy both. I only had CoH at the time. I distinctly remember starting a solo SG, but could not start a base because you needed CoV to start a base back then.

So, did SG's exist before CoV? I'm pretty sure they did, but what was the point without a base? Could you enter SG mode? Could you still earn prestige?

Also, once CoV added bases to the game, if a person who only had CoH joined an SG that had a base, could he use the base even though he did not have CoV? (I'd kinda think so, just not certain.)

At the time of CoV launch -

No, someone with only CoH could not enter an SG base. This was rather unfair as he/she could earn prestige towards a base but could not make use of the spoils of his/her labor, and the same limitation did not exist for those who had only CoV. This has long since ceased to be an issue, thankfully.

Yes, SGs existed prior to CoV. Initially they served mostly a classic 'guild' function in that they provided a way of grouping large-ish numbers of like-minded players together for teaming and accomplishing tasks, and the coalition function extended the number of players that could be organized thusly by a considerable margin. In the modern game, global channels have largely assumed this role and even SGs/coalitions that do serve this function typically do it by means of their own global channel rather than via SG or coalition chat (or they use both).

As for prestige, it was introduced with bases.

Super Groups existed from the start of the game, but the only thing being in one granted you was SG chat, coalition chat, and the ability to change your costume to the SG colors and symbol. Which, by the way, could never be changed to anything else. I was in a SG from the beginning that the leader thought it was funny to pick black and hot pink as the SG colors... later he wished he hadn't, but it was too late. ^_^

I didn't think we got Coalition chat until later, but I could easily be wrong... my recollection at launch was that an SG got you the ability to change your costume to SG colors via SGmode (that's all SG Mode did), and SG Chat. That's it.

@Mistress Rue
Yes, I RP and play Redside on Virtue - No, Rumors of its demise have been greatly exaggerated

Do you suck at COH/COV? not yet...

Those of us in the Babes of War enjoy our Black and Hot Pink having worn those pretty much from the start of the game.

That is correct. Coalition Chat was added after CoH launched. For the first year or so, all you got was SG Chat.

I recall being in atleast one SG from day one, but I didn't start until about i2-ish. I can't recall if the SG I created had a base back then or not honestly.

It took NCsoft buying CoH and "merging" CoH and CoV to allow everyone access to bases.
