New tech MIGHT make Henchman customization possible!
Not entirely. You can still customize your Jack Frost and your Animated Stone just fine. I believe the problem with Mastermind Henchmen is the fact that they swap costumes with henchman upgrades.

thos costume chanes make the most difference with mercs, thugs, and ninjas. i hardly even notice them on bots and demons. zombs, dep on the minion [some are costume changes, some get auras.]
but i would gladly give up that minor costume change for a complete minion alt model swap option. XD

It's not a question of how much you can notice them, it's a question of how they're rigged into the powers system. Costume changes are are a power command inherent in the upgrade powers, and that makes customizing them complex, especially since what costume changes into what is an interconnected series of logical checks.

I wouldn't. One of the best thing about Mastermind henchmen is that as you level up, they start looking much better and more impressive. Thugs punks look like crap at the start (as well they should), but look like rebel fighters by the end. That transformation is not something I want to give up.

You don't notice the giant rocket launcher on the back of the Assault Bot?

Don't know why but the first thing that came into my mind when you mention that is Marvel Versus Capcom's Sentinel when he says "Rocket Punch!"

Blazara Aura LVL 50 Fire/Psi Dom (with 125% recharge)
Flameboxer Aura LVL 50 SS/Fire Brute
Ice 'Em Aura LVL 50 Ice Tank
Darq Widow Fortune LVL 50 Fortunata (200% rech/Night Widow 192.5% rech)--thanks issue 19!
lol whoops. rocket launchers are a bit more than red back lights i guess XD
but im so used to zombies and their sinky breath and shoulder pad upgrades, which is only mildly satisfying as a costume upgrade.
aaannnnyyyywwaaaayyy
alt models por favor XD. i dont really want/expect the minor costume changes to be removed. just new options. [ew default demons. hooray CoT demons.]
By now, we're all familiar with Titan Weapons, and most of us have probably heard that the new tech that made TW possible is being shared with Assassin Strike in the near future.
The way I understand it, when you use one of these powers, it checks a flag (either Momentum or Hide), and selects one of two different powers to activate, depending on the state of that flag.
In the past, we've been told that we can't customize Mastermind pets because the power summons an entity from the critter database, and the critter is too far removed from the Powers system for customization to work.
Now, this suggestion isn't going to give full customization, but, if the devs were to clone the critters summoned by the Henchman powers, giving different models to each set, and then clone the summon power a few times, having each summon tied to a different set of visually distinct but mechanically identical pets, and then replace the actual Summon power with a Titan Weapons-style power that selects the appropriate pet group... Well, it seems like it should work.
There would likely be some back end work needed, and art assets would need to be created or taken from elsewhere (Vahzilok for Necromancy, Sky Raiders for Mercs, Circle of Thorns for Demons, etc). Depending on how it can be set up, we might have to select one theme for all pets, rather than on a per-power basis, but even that is better than the current system.
I'm not saying that this would be easy, but it's quite possibly the closest we've ever been to having the tech to make custom pets work.
Side thought: This tech might also make it possible to choose between the existing transformation of Granite Armor and the overlay-style Granite Armor that Back Alley Brawler suggested way back, when he said we can't have an option for both. Who knows where else it might work? Maybe Titan Weapons is the Holy Grail of power customization!
EDIT: Further reflection makes me realize that, in the case of Titan Weapons and Assassin strike, the flag read by the powers is set by the Powers system. Power Customization is done through the Costume system, and I don't know if the two systems can talk to each other enough to make this happen. But if they can, this could be a benefit to players and devs alike. And if we're *really* lucky, someone already thought of this, and testing and/or development is already happening.
