Theme Shows

So tell me virtue.

This is an era of Pandora, Slacker, Spotify, and Internet radio where people don't have to think about what music they are playing. So I wonder, if you had to do a theme show of music, what would you use and give some examples of songs that you would play. And I'm not talking just a genre, the most original and unique one(s) might get used for one of my shows on The Cape.

do a muppet show theme...with music from the movie!

Okay ideas:

1 Hair metal day..poison skid row etc

2 Sci Fi theme...all tech music

3 Superhero movie day...music from the movies

Not sure if it's a theme but why not a '' How Music Evolved.. ''

Going through the ages, happy songs to jam out to. Moving from the 50s - 2000s? Maybe?

Or, go with the classic: '' Theme Music '' for shows, movies, video games. Meh.

This is a neat idea I might have to start doing.

Jsut remember, I am asking what you would do for a unique theme show. For instance, an underwear themed show, a swimwear themed show (both have been done on a regular basis).

What bands would you pick for those themes? What Songs?

I want specifics, I want the nitty gritty. Music is a personal choice for people and I want to know what your personal choices are.

00s
etc

How about a show named something like "Underground Icon" with music by cult iconic singers like Tom Waits, Nick Cave, Shane MacGowan, Leonard Cohen, ect. Basically, something that will introduce great non-mainstream and "underground" singers to a new audience.

How about, "We've Got Ya Covered!" A block devoted entirely to cover songs.
I'm thinking about some of the great covers I've heard like PJ Harvey and Bjork covering "Satisfaction," Pearl Jam doing "Last Kiss," or this beauty here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqg7dX7IUCY

I don't know if you've tried this in the past, but how about a contest or even an auction for listener submitted playlists?

Strange, I have thought about that, although when I do Underground shows, I tend to focus on new artists out there, try to get them some exposure. Those I do once ever few months now. Used to do them weekly. Anyway, I do like the idea of doing a show like you are talking about, definitely something to consider.

Doc, Many of us DJs have done Cover shows, and will continue to. They tend to be a lot of fun.
