I have looked but am to lazy to search through the massive database. So anyway, if I add ram to my pc will it help the lag. I currently am running windows 7 64bit premium with 4G of ram I can expand to 16G. I will be heading to the store soon, so any advice would help.

Probably not. Actual "lag" is usually symptomatic of network connection issues. On your end, the opposite end, or possibly on any of the nodes between the two endpoints (if you're trying to have a conversation with someone a few feet away, some schmuck standing between you two, screaming, will make it harder).

What you can try to do to see if your network devices are screaming for a restart:

  1. Shut EVERYTHING on the network down. Cable/DSL modem, router, computers, network attached storage, network printers, wireless AP, etc.
  2. Start up the cable/DSL modem (gateway). Wait 3-5 minutes.
  3. Start up the router (if you have a separate one). Wait 3-5 minutes.
  4. If you're connecting wirelessly, start up your wireless AP (if it's separate from your gateway/router). Give it 3-5 minutes.
  5. Start up your computer.
  6. Test for lag.

If you're getting low framerates, that's not lag.

More memory MIGHT help if you're consuming all your system RAM and seeing low performance in-game.

If you're just noticing long zone-load times, bumping to faster disk drives (or SSDs) will help reduce your zone-loads.

We should also point out that it could be your Video card. Depending upon your graphic setting and the quality of your video card you could experience slow downs (lag-like symptoms) in certains graphic intensive situations. 4 gigs of ram in your computer should be plenty if you have a decent video card.

It depends on what you mean by lag, as noted. Also, what CPU you have as well as what video card.

"True Lag" - no it will not help.

On the flip side - most people I've seen like 8gigs min for 7/x64.

Also, if you have low framerates - what video card and driver do you have?

Way too many people claim lag when they really mean graphical frame rate loss.

If you mean lag, you are either running in place or 'rubberbanding' backwards while running.

If you are talking about slowdown in animation or very choppy performance, you are talking about frame rate loss.

In my experience (15 years of PC self building), if you add memory to a system that does not have enough then everything will improve. If you add memory to one that does have enough then nothing will.

Back in the old SWG days I used to get a problem similar to what is described above as "frame rate loss". Going from 1Gb to 2Gb (might have been 0.5Gb to 1Gb) improved things dramatically but your milage may vary. It's a long time ago and a different game.
