The vast number of mobs you defeat really bump up your iXP (if you need it) and Thread count. Plus you are guaranteed a Rare or Very Rare drop at the end! And the 60 bonus Threads aren't anything to sneeze at either.
If you just have someone superspeed through the bombs to detonate then
45-50 minutes is good enough. But, yeah, you definitely need either an experienced league or leader to take you through it.

Clarions are nice - but not essential. Three Escapes will last 4.5 minutes - and if the whole league has them is probably enough time to finish the avatar. It would depend on team composition.

Well, apparently doing these trials isn't as easy as most of you make it sound.

I spent some time over the last few days trying to find a trial. No luck. There's a BAF/LAM going off every 5 mins, but absolutely nothing else. I didn't sit there for hours or anything, but I checked in several times throughout several days, and it's always the same thing. In all that time I saw ONE keyes being formed...and one total person looking for a MoM.

Is there a better place to find them besides pocket D these days?

I'm not saying it's 100% impossible to find anything besides BAF/LAM, but when there are 200 BAF's for every non-BAF, it's pretty close to impossible. If you don't have a bunch of supergroup friends to do the trials with, you basically will never do them, unless you do it in the first couple weeks after they come out. Sigh.

The first time I played it my team beat it in less than a minute. But every time after that has been hell. One of the two wins happened with 2 minutes left on the timer and only because my Brute, who didn't actually die, suicided so she could go to the hospital to buy Break Frees. While I won't tell other people they should avoid it completely, I know I will. There's a lightsaber game and one that rhymes with thrift that made a few extra dollars because of how much I despise this trial.

IMO the UG boss is a low point for City of Heroes, and possibly even MMOs in general.
I guess this just comes down to differing experiences, and bad luck in terms of league makeup. I've been on leagues that struggled and failed, but only once during the end boss fight. I've found that most leagues who make it past all the Warwalkers will make it through the end fight... Maybe the problem lies with people not paying attention to the "confused" notification and refraining from using Judgement or AOE's during the end phase? Really, only single target attacks should be used, and they should be focused on the AV, even with ample Clarions being thrown about. .. At least in my opinion.

I have only rarely been killed by pink circles of death.

The psychic "ping" attacks Penny and Mother use on the other hand have taken me down dozens of times, and as far as I can tell, that has nothing to do with paying attention. Either you have the HP and buffs on the team to survive them and they are easy to ignore, or you don't and you die over and over.
Hrm, I've never personally had much of an issue with this either. My main is a Warshade- His only means of healing himself during this trial is equipping his rebirth and the weak targeted heal he has in his attack chain, plus leveraging inspirations. Usually people seem to know to bring Rebirth for this trial, so again this just isn't an issue I've run into. For whatever reason, the circles of death seem to be the biggest challenge for people on the leagues I've been on.
