Fire/Mace Advice

Can anyone offer any advice on making my fire/mace tank more formidable? He is a 50, with all the hp and end accolades and Incarnate unlocked I also have plenty of HO’s if you wanna factor that into the build. Im set on fire and mace and that’s it, so if anyone has tips or a sample build I can take a look at I would appreciate it.

P.S. This is my very first toon Ive had since 2004 so I need to keep him and wont delete him. I just want this toon to be fun again. Ever since ED his Mace hits like a wet napkin. Thanks

Could you post your current build? Mace got a huge buff a few years ago and is now a very good set. If you haven't respeced and taken Clobber, for example, you're missing one of the best powers in the set.

The best way to make Fire more survivable, presuming you're interested in that, is to see if you can add some defense. HOs and even purples don't help with that much, though you'll need to know what powers and IOs sets to take.

Post your build and we'll give it the once over.

I apologize for that, I was putting it out there as a start from scratch kinda thing. Ill put my current build together in Mids and post it as soon as I can.

I cant recreate the current build on a count of it being pre-inherent fitness so Im falling short with power selections and dont wanna add any filler powers just to hit certain levels. I did notice that I was lacking Clobber so that one addition would help. Theres no IO's slotted or set bonuses involved so Ill just rephrase my question as so, if I were to build a Fire/Mace tank would you or anyone have any tips and what to choose or suggestions on what not to from previous experiences. Survivability was never an issue as Ive got that part covered with just SOs so I guess what Im going for is recharge and damage to be used as a good tank for end game content I pretty much gave up on this toon after playing brutes, scraps, cors and blasters so bringing some fun back to my first ever toon would be nice. I have plenty of respecs and inf to use so thats not an issue. Ill take any suggestions without criticism as this build is a clean slate for anyone that wants to offer their opinion.

No vision, I just tossed something together that I was sure would work. Have fun! Use YOUR vision to kinda 'color between the lines.

Er, I might've forgot to put a knockback IO on it, the build I ripped that from used a couple sets of PVP's for 6 points of KB resist.

If I did, well, just stick one on somewhere, there's room.

I will definitely give it a go, only thing is that, that particular toon is on Protector so getting the iTrials down for those slots will take some time. Thanks for the info!

Nice build but u forgot 1 major factor in it and that is KB as a tank KB is very bad trying to keep aggro. Usual rule is 10-12 KB prot but u can also get by most stuff with just 8. Also u left out taunt. I know you do not like it but there is to many end game content it is good for IE taking on LR at the end of STF for example, HAMI if u like to do HAMI by the sounds of it you do considering u have HOs. I did a little change on it and switched build up with Tunt since u have fiery embrace. I also got you 12 KB protection and some more def. You do not need to keep taunt if u do not wish to, and keep build up it is up to you though.

The reason I took out build up if u have FE wich the recharge and time is little better as far as dam goes it is a bit better and it is 1 of the few things that really would not hamper your build to get taunt. I personally would of taken Taunt pre lvl 20. That is just me and a few other tankers would of also taken taunt for multiple reasons. But if you do not want taunt but wanted BU you can always switch it out.

Just want to point out that Mace no longer has weak damage for a tanker secondary by any objective measure. It's one of the better AoE sets and the DPA of Clobber is one of the highest of any tanker ST attack.

I usually do take BU on my tanks but I agree with LSK that it's not as necessary for a Fire tank with the buffed FE. However, one advantage that BU has is that it takes ToHit sets, some of which have very nice bonuses. Though I wouldn't take it instead of Taunt, personally.

I haven't had time to look over any of the builds offered but I'm sure they're pretty sound, I pm'd OP that I'd post my f/m's build so here it is, just a couple quick things since I'm rushed for time, accolades and incarnate powers of course help fill areas that your choice of IO slotting & power picks may present, you may want to take fiery embrace it's certainly worthy, physical perfection will make your f/m more sturdy but I took pyre mastery because it makes that tank more multidimensional for my play style and because dammit I want to burn things nice and crispy. Might revisit post later in the day, have fun. =]

As far as the build mauk2 posted I dont think the powers were chosen in a specific order, I think it was just a post 50 build thrown together to see the bonuses which is something I do all the time.

That's really another issue, and not one specific to Mace. In comparison to pre-ED days, any tanker set is going to have low damage unless you choose to use IOs to accrue significant damage bonuses.

You mentioned you used to hami raid with your tank, at one point my live build was completely ho'd before ed/gdr, herding on a burn tank was so much fun back then even if it was bad for the game overall.

Like you said that was a pre-ed build and that would've been a pretty common setup for the time, and just as an aside, were money an issue you can slot your tank just with standard IO's and still have a workable build.
