Yes, you can pay for the convenience of an account wide unlock for all current and future characters, or you can do it for free in game per character while the event is ongoing.
Plus the Snowball power that you can earn in-game expires, what, 2 weeks after you earn it. The one you purchase from the store is permanent.

Auras and costume pieces I picked up on my main pre-freedom?
Did they take out the ability to earn these for free or is this just a way to unlock the pieces accountwide so you don't have to run every alt or wait next year for a toon you made out of season?
