True combat pets.

Ok so my request deals with a "Weapon" of sorts, to the fact it would be to the benifit of combat but not a "Melee Weapon". I was thinking of a familure that joins in combat as a basic claw, claw and bite type thing like a advance version of the buff pets where we would get more worth pulling them out in combat. They could do minor(claw) and mod.(bite) damage and maybe a single buff for either DEF. or RES. I also had some basic ideas for some creature forms. example: fairy dragons, large spiders or hawks/eagles and stuff like that for more reference look at a old AD&D monster manuel for familure types of critters. I figured you made a dog with no bark and no bite so its time you put something in that had at least the bit and claw. Sorry no picture but I figure you have a good idea what I mean. Sorry such a long post.
Thanks

We already have those. They're called Controller and Dom pets. And, for more advanced versions, Mastermind pets.

Giving them as perma-temp powers available to everyone would be a balance issue, though.

I get that those other sets get pets but the rest of use keep just getting the prestige pets but they are in my opinion not really worth having they either die to easy or do not help at all in any way other then to get some noob to ask you "How you got it and does it do anything?" I do respect your comment about it being a load on the servers and stuff and I Hate lag more then I would like the extra pet but it would still be cool. Thanks for commenting.

Honestly, they're so fragile because they'd be TOO good otherwise. There doesn't seem to be a good line there. As they were originally veteran rewards, the designers had felt that they were better to err on the side of "cool but weak" than let them be overpowered. Even the old vet rewards like Sands of Mu lose a lot of utility as you level up ( though they can be quite powerful early ). The buff pets aren't totally useless, but, you're right, they're generally not worthwhile.

That's actually the purpose of the vet pets: they're for show. All of the veteran benefits are generally low, though technically practical in some quantifiable manner. If the pets or attacks were actually worth using in high-end combat, it'd make CoH a little more "pay to win" than Paragon Studios wants it to be.

"Where'd you get that magic wand?" "Why are your Inspirations 25% more effective?" And formerly, "How did you get Super Jump at level 6?" These are/were all boons to being a veteran, but at the end of the day they don't really do a lot.

For what it's worth, the "combat" pets are only "combat" as an afterthought. I'd be opposed to making any veteran reward give a considerable advantage over lesser veterans.

Note that VIPs can get the Lore Incarnate power which allows you to select a wide variety of potent pets.

Well, yes, but at that level of incarnate stuff, "balance" seems to be more a suggestion than a practice.

I think the best way to implement what you want is probably through a power pool. Then everyone can get their own little viscous doggle.

If you're playing a villain (or a hero character you're willing and able to switch over to the villain side long enough to run one of the Patron arcs-), you can also get a combat pet from the Patron Power Pools.

The type of pet depends on which patron you pick and what AT your character is, they last for five minutes per summon, and the recharge timer on them is pretty long. (15 minutes base, but it can be reduced with the right enhancements, Hasten and such. My favorite Stalker, for instance, *almost* has her Mu Adept's summon wrapped now, so he's there with her the majority of the time-) You can't control them like Mastermind or Incarnate Lore pets, either, but that's a trait they share with both the Vet and the Controller/Dominator/Dark Defender pets.

Of course, the other consideration on this suggestion is the strength of a power earned through gameplay vs one that you just bought. They're trying to steer away from being able to buy your way to too much power. In theory. *Looks at the purchasable IO sets*
