By the way, Zombie Man appears to have not one but two kins parked at the top of the slalom (hey I spelled it right finally!) ramp on Virtue, with IR on auto... been there all day today (Saturday). If you're on Virtue you should take advantage of that!

I be honest it seems to hurt me more than help me.

I've got to say, that there is one tip that noone's mentioned.

I'm not saying it's necessary, but I think it will help.

Bring a level 50. My average time when IR doesn't cause me to jump 200 feet higher than the track is about 44 seconds. This is with a second build where I make use of IO sets that boost run speed and jump speed. I also have a kin which will give IR and SB which caps my run speed and jump speed. However, with a lower level toon, my jump and run speed caps are lower.

If you have super speed and sprint, all you really needs is Inertial Reduction.

It wasn't always that easy. It took me several tries to even catch the first checkpoint consistently. I tell you, if I could figure out how to travel with my mouse, I might even do better than that. But, I just use the 4 arrow keys to move. Seems more intuitive to me.

Another tip - try using a Kheldian in Dwarf form with SB and IR. It's a real kick. You should be able to get about 45-50 seconds easily, as the dwarf form seems very dense. I have a feeling that if my kin were high enough to give ID, my times would be better.

That being said, there are guys on my server that have times of 41 seconds. So, I'm not even an expert on my server. (Liberty)

Well, clearly people are successful and are enjoying it, so it's not impossible - and the winter event is a lot of fun for many many players so there's obviously some magic that keeps peeps coming back.

There's plenty of good advice in this thread, so I'd suggest trying to take some of it and seeing if your results improve. You will have to practice, even once you've found something that works for you ut hey, that's how you get better right?

One big trick: if you aren't going forward constantly, then it's harder to stay on the track. Your momentum will carry you off the track if you aren't trying to go in any other direction. So in that respect going faster yields more control than simply letting gravity take over.

I can get silver and bronze with nothing but combat jumping on. IR only really helps for the gold run, and if you have a special "jump enhanced" 2nd build that can take care of that. IR does greatly add to your speed and makes control harder, I wouldn't use it until you have the track mastered enough to at least get a bronze consistently.

So all you actually need is Inertial Reduction then.

I did the bobsled with Superspeed on and off. It made ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE in my times. None. Not even a half second.

Gold time option: Ninja Run+Sprint+Afterburner.

NR+Sprint gives you the speed, and AB gives 100% control.

Try it. It's awesome.

As a gold medalist on the slope and sled track, I highly recommend increasing your mouse sensitivity, both in Windows and within the options inside the game. It will take time to get used to this, but it will remove one obstacle (your mouse), and is also healthier for your wrist. Then, if you're serious about control, buy a Razer Optical Gaming Mouse (laser precision like you didn't know existed), and a specially designed gaming mouse pad to take advantage of your new mouse's pin-point DPI (seriously, do this, because a high DPI laser doesn't even know what to do with an ordinary mouse pad).

Take Scarlet Shocker's tips to heart, and above all, practice, practice, practice. One thing that helped me was to take periodic breaks to do other things in or out of the game. Otherwise, at a certain point, frustration takes over and you stop exploring new tactics. Every time I've won the gold medal, I was in a relaxed (but alert) state of mind, very open to finding and trying new maneuvers. Learn how to take speed boosts without losing control, as it can be virtually impossible to obtain gold medals on some character builds without those.

City of Heroes is a very casual game (might equals right), and the slopes are one of the few areas where players are challenged to succeed by learning new tactics. This is where much of the frustration came from for me (I'm not much of a gamer outside City of Heroes). Few of us will get to the point where we can win the gold medal every time. For me it is still rare, but I have a few under my belt!

I'd just like to correct Captain-Electric's erroneous endorsement by saying that if you truly care about seriously burnin' up that City of Heroes Winter Event 2011 Pocket D Ski Chalet Ski Slope, and who doesn't, the peripheral for you is a Logitech G9 laser mouse. Logitech: It's In The Game.
