A surprisingly stunning revelation...

This weekend, my defender finally received 'Hail of Bullets' for my final power for dual pistols. I did not think much of it as just another AoE power. However, when I finally used it I was simply stunned. The effects of this power made me sit up a bit straighter in my chair. The amount of damage and number of targets I took out when I activated it made my eyes bug out. That is not all of it. When I activated Fulcrum Shift, the damage increased dramatically. When I fired it off again, my little defender did not leave an enemy standing even when the entire team engaged.

Since this is my first time using Dual Pistols, I was not prepared for an outcome of this magnitude. The amount of damage this power can do sure makes my lil defender even more dangerous. No wonder I found myself at the end of a numerous attacks from the enemy when I engaged them.

My question is this. Has anyone else found themselves shocked by what 'Hail of Bullets' can do with or without using Fulcrum Shift?

Current active characters: Dragon Maiden (50+3 Brute SS/WP/PM), Black Widow Maiden (50+1 Night Widow), Catayclasmic Ariel (50 lvl Defender - Kin/DP), Quantumshock (50 lvl Elect/Energy/Energy), American's Defender (38 lvl Tanker - SD/Mace), Spider-Maiden (15 lvl Corruptor - RB/PD) & Siren Shrike (15 lvl Defender - Sonic/Sonic). My entire stable.

The Mini-nuke makes the set. The Mini-Nuke with Fulcrum or The Mini-Nuke with Judgement is even better.

DP without the mini-nuke is a bottom tier set. DP with the mini-nuke is a moderate to moderate high tier set depending your ammo choices, but never top tier. Just as you don't play AR without Burn (aka ignite), you don't play DP without the Mini-nuke (aka Hail of bullets).

Surprised, no. Happy, meh. Content Yes. From a design standpoint I really don't like sets where one power makes or breaks the set.

Hail of bullets on top of tar patch, or freezing rain, or after heat loss has similar results, but not as good as a fulcrum. I have a storm/dp and a kinetic/dp. I wouldn't think of skipping hail of bullets. Empty clips, rain of bullets, and hail of bullets in the defender damage multiplier zone reaps the xp quickly.

Dual Pistols also leverage synergy with each time of round depending on primary set and foe. Fire users taste my ice bullets, and fire damage for zombies, ghosties and general damage increase. Especially for kinetic, do the math. Check out how the damage DEBUFF stacks up on non-trash npcs from the chemical rounds. Kinetics gets all kinds of tools to work with in dual pistols and the tier nine mini-nuke is pretty nice.

Triumphant Defenders Forever
Psylenz FF/Psi, ArticQuark Storm/Rad, Symon BarSisyphus Bots/psn, Max VanSydow Thugs/Dk, Cyclone Symon Bots/stm, Blue Loki Ice/Cd, Widow 46526
HelinCarnate:OMG it is so terrible. I have the option to take 3 more powers but no additional slots. Boo F'ing hoo.

Yeah I found that out when teaming with a friend. I had a trick arrow.dual pistols and he had a kinetics/rad and we tore through everything left and right man it was crazy. oil slick lit up and hail of bullets AND falcum shift is a site to be seen. especially when there are two defenders left standing after it.

I tested it in the open beta with a Dual Pistols/Kinetic Corruptor, before the chance for each tick was added, and before it gave you +defense so you can live through the animation.

I found myself shocked when after damage capping myself with Fulcrum Shift in a large spawn, I fired off Hail of Bullets only to have half of the (+1) minions and everything larger in the spawn live through it (the ticks originally had a lower chance to go off even when you hit the target); then I faceplanted because Transfusion was animating when my hit points ran out.

The power has come a long way since then and is a lot better, but that's the only time I can say I was "shocked" by the power.

Kin/DP is a good choice, and welcome to the world of crashless nukes.

Your description is the same feeling I had when I first used Full Auto back in 2004...aaah memories.

To this day Full Auto is epic to fire off every time it recharges.

Enjoy!

One more note to another poster above: Yes AR is viable without Ignite. :P
