Bringing back the magic feeling

Not too long ago I wrote a post on the Champion forums looking for ways to find non-DFB teams while leveling. This really stemmed from a long term feeling that some of the magic I felt in this game had been lost over the years, due to the steamrolling, power leveling, approach that seems common recently. Ultimately, I missed the excitement of new challenges and a solid team that completes missions together through adapting to situations and relying on everyone's ability to rise above their own skills to become something greater.

Last night, thanks to some new chat channels I was invited to, I ran an Abandoned Sewer Trial for the first time (been here off and on since May 04). This one gaming session brought back all the magic and memories I have been missing over last couple of years. The team I was on was a classic set up of tanks (had 2 but one dropped at some point), control, healing, and dps. We all had a role to play and at least I can say that I felt like we were all needed.

We had a rocky start with some deaths (no wipes), but adapted to the trial and ultimately found ourselves learning how to tackle the challenges together, as a team. I would say that my favorite part was when we completed the mission with less than 3 minutes on the clock, cleaning up the last Ritki on the stairs. Nothing feels quite as heroic to me as "disarming a bomb" with only seconds to spare.

So to those I grouped with last night, I thank you. You reminded me why I love this game, and the great moments it can produce.

I have fun in PuG's in the teens and 20's in Steel and Talos. It is almost always radio missions, but I am fine with that.

While I like Faultline, Striga, and others - in a team never get the storyline. And really teaming I do for the fun of the team dynamic.

And given that redside AT's which are better at soloing while being diverse are now available blue side you really can play what you want and solo.

I think the only issue is that leveling solo is so dramatically slower than in a team. You choose between exploring content and getting XP.

It's hard to find a PUG these days, especially soon after yet more post-50 content gets released. Unless, you know, you're playing a 50 (hero to boot) and want to run those things endlessly, neither of which describes me.* But once I do find one, my experience is much like that as well, it reminds me why I'm here. I just wish it didn't happen less and less frequently.

*(In before choruses of "start your own team" and "you can solo anytime you want!" Things didn't use to be so limited like they are now.)
