SS/Shield Question
Anyone make a SS/shield brute, curious how well against all odds and rage work together. I was thinking that your fury bar + against all odds + rage would make your character do some pretty good damage, anyone know from experience?

Seriously...obviously they work well together...more damage on top of more damage on top of more damage. How couldn't that work well together?

SS/FA, on the other hand, avoids that problem by having Fiery Embrace which just adds more damage from a seperate source rather than a +Damage buff.
@Rorn ---- Blue Baron ---- Guardian

Well, not to nitpick but I'd imagine it really is overkill. You would have diminishing returns from it with high Fury levels and probably find yourself over the damage cap from time to time.

Defnitely not worth it.
Brutes' damage cap is really high; you're rarely going to hit it on teams, and you'll never hit it solo unless you're popping more reds than hunter thompson.
What you can do is truck along between 300 and 400% +damage pretty consistently between AAO, stacked rage and a 3/4 fury bar. Footstomp, shield charge and a patron pool provide plenty of aoe, and SS can pump out solid ST damage as well.
End consumption is an issue (/shield has a lot of toggles to run and SS drinks blue bar), but the sky is the limit for SS/SD if you're willing to spend on it.
@Dysc, on virtue:
Virtue blues: Overnight (DP/MM), Kid Ridiculous (FC/rad), Panorama (Ill/time)
Virtue reds: Block Party (SS/SD), Goldcrush (earth/fire), Deadwire (claws/elec), Snowcrush (ice/kin)
You're right...I forgot...being constantly at or the near the damage cap is a big turn off.

I agree with Vitality. One of my most fun brute projects to date has been my ss/shield. He was costly to build the right way, but worth it in every sense. He provides a truckload of non stop death where ever he goes. I don't think you can self cap your damage, even with AAO, Rage, and Fury, Valuur. So I am not sure how valid that point is. I will do some testing in game later to confirm. If you are being buffed externally, then anything will be overkill with a good fulcrum shift applied.
The only thing I don't enjoy about my ss/sd is the fact that he finds himself touchable with the incarnate content as the defense softcap is technically higher due to the increased to hit of Praetorian foes. Still, just pop a purple occasionally and soldier onward.
Words to the wise aren't necessary- it's the stupid ones that need them.

On the basis that the above is true, with the higher base damage and ability to focus on recharge as opposed to defense the Tank would be outdamaging the Brute.
As I said, if I'm remembering correctly.

L50s: Tanks: Cryofission - Ice/EM - Dr Celsius - Fire/Ice - Saint George - SD/SS | Controllers: Psichosis - Ill/Kin - Major Chaos - Ill/Stm | Scrappers - Neutron Crusader - DM/SR
Currently Levelling: Angelic Blade - BS/WP Scrapper | Seeds of Destruction - Plant/Kin Controller
You probably are remembering correctly: a SD/SS tank with AAO and double Rage could indeed run at or near the damage cap at almost all times.
However, being at the tank damage cap (+300%) is still very far away from the brute damage cap (+675%).

Is that a bug then that those two powers would cancel each other out? Those 2 powers should make you stronger than weaker you would think.
A fun attack chain for this build...Shield Charge - Footstomp - Fireball - Footstomp....look around "oh just a boss left"....Knockout blow.
Next!!
