Rebuilding my fire/fire blaster.
I went with ~35% SL def and epic +resist shield for ~50% s/l resist. I find that its much more survivable than 45% def and ~15% resist. With heals I just went with Rebirth as my only heal and accolades for my +hp
Yeah, stacking good defence on moderate resistances seems a better plan than outrageous defence. Still, we'll see how it goes.
I also have a Fire/Fire blaster that I'm looking to make a Fire/Fire/Fire blaster to complete the set, and am looking for guidance on this. What's your recommended slotting / enhancements / powers taken?
I built this character based on play experience, and I levelled him mostly through crashing through hazard zones kicking very large groups of blues and greens (before level 22) in the face, using their inspirations to move on to the next spawn quickly and conveniently, and then kicking them in the face. As I levelled into SOs I used them instead. So my playstyle is heavily biased towards destroying very large groups in a quick, efficient time frame.
Before IOs, it's simple - 1 accuracy, 3 damage, 1 end redux in attacks. If you want, I can post the chunk of the character who used to be Cottus, but now is Cearmaid (because Cottus is too close to a rude word, sayeth a GM), but I don't know if that build is going to be super useful to you unless you play in a similar style. You still interested?

The other nice thing is that with as much S/L as I have as a passive, when I do get mezzed, the mez tends to end without much repercussion because I'm still sitting on the sunny side of 25%.
Cool kids take Soul Storm. Using Tentacles and Soul Storm is conjunction with dark color fire powers automatically makes you a badazz. My Fire-Fire uses Soul Mastery. You can still build for ranged defense if that's your focus, but I love using soul storm because it has the magical ability to draw a league's aggro to a target without saying anything. People see the enemy floating and just lose it and go nuts trying to kill it, hilarious good times.
But hey if you don't want to be cool you can just keep a functional and top tier S/L Defense build.... it's certainly effective but man that's less cool. Being cool is everything amirite?
Here's my build if you are interested, feel free to tell me how I need more recharge IO's in BU and Aim but one is enough for me thanks.

How to suck at CoX

Hey, if it works for you, it works. Like I said upstream in the thread, defence+resistance is probably better than defence+defence.
It's just hard to get good resist on Blasters, though. Tough + APP would be scarcely 45% S/L res. (Some defenders can get close to 70%.)
That's because defenders get tank values out of armours. Which is kinda funny.
It's one of the reasons I love building Defenders. You can make them so soo tough. Just about every defender can have effectively soft capped resist to S/L if they want it. With Sonic Ressonance and an epic armor like mind over body to fill the psy hole, you can have some MIGHTY all around resists on a Defender that seriously dwarf what a Corruptor with a similar build has, let alone poor Blasters. I would still recommend tough/weave on most Blaster builds though.

I usually recommend Tough as a 3% defense mule and Weave actually used... Tough on a Blaster isn't worth the endurance (though if you can run it with no endurance issues you might as well).

These days I have been striving to go back through my (decently large) cloud of 50s, and one project that had been sitting on a server unattended for some time was this lad here.
Now, he's not going to stay red for long - I'm a sucker for heroes - but this build struck me a few days ago, and I was excited to dust him off and give him a shot.
Build link here, if you're curious. For those who don't want to open it up, he's a fire/fire blaster with Scorpion Mastery, Spiritual Alpha, and working on the first tiers of incarnate stuff. I'll be focusing on getting him the +HP accolades too, now that HP is the only thing that really stands to be gained in terms of survivability, but I have learned a few things since getting this build.
The most signficant thing is... my lord, soft-capped S/L isn't all that much! I really need more HP, more regeneration and maybe a self-heal as well. Now, I know that the factions I've fought on him automatically have a way to trump defense; It's been DE, Malta and Longbow lately.
Anyone have a suggestion for an area this boy would thrive?
(Combustion and Invoke Panic are in the build to use as costume-change emotes, in case you're curious)
