Fire/Fire build?

Hi, I just returned from a loooong break (I left just after CoV went live) to see what goodies Freedom has brought

I have undusted my fire/fire tanker, with her 53 SO build, and seems to perform well enough (after 3 respecs in a row...)

I now want to build a IO build for her for farming/grouping (emphasis on grouping, I dont mind if the farming is "slow" since is already fast enough for me with SOs). Money is not a problem (as long as there are no purple sets), since I am enjoying playing the market and getting steady income

I have never used IO sets before, so this is an entire new world for me. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

Great forum name, I approve!

What I suggest is that you post your current build, SOs and all. That will give us some information on what powers you would like. Also, if you could give us an idea of what you're looking for from an IO build that would be helpful too.

I would suggest using Titan Sentinel from your live build to Mids' if it's not already in Mids', but it looks like that part of the Titan network is still down.

Thanks for the reply! I will do it once I get to home, since I'm at work now and I dont dare to install mids here

If I recall correctly, I have all the primary. For ST attacks, Scorch, Incinerate, Great Sword. For AoEs, Consume, Circle Sword. Build Up. Combat Jumping, Super Jump, Acrobatics. Tough and Weave. Conserve Power, Focussed Accuracy, and that Health+Stamina passive. With a typical SO slotting.

Anyway, Ill post the exact build as soon as I can

P.D: Great Forum name, too

Seems that titan network is not fully working so I cannot donwload T. Sentinel, and I forgot to save my build. Ill try to do it later during the day

Well, first and foremost, here's the end-results as it matters to me of my own exploit in fire/fire tankers.

Here's her build. Things to bear in mind when using it as a starting point. Note that there's a lot of stuff in this set for -recharge; Lucks of the Gambler, the Entropic Chaos, and the Crushing Impacts. These are unnecessary for the build to operate. The defence 'skin' of the character is built around getting a decent chunk of S/L/M defence from the Obliterations, the Enfeebled Operation, Smashing Haymaker and Mocking Beratement.

Now, this is not a cheap build! Even without the -recharge components, it's still a lot of obliteration pieces. But it's a build you can grow into, and using the same slotting and just putting SOs in them while you earn the money to make the build feasible* you can still play the character without being in any particular way disadvantaged.

* Or you can play on the market and make tons and tons and tons of money and just buy it.

Talen, the link won't work while the Titan Network is down. Could you post a data chunk instead?

Quick question based on the description of your build; if you're aiming for S/L defense I'm surprised you'd use Obliteration and Smashing Haymaker rather than Kinetic Combot, which give twice as much S/L defense in four slots. And slotting several Oblit sets is problematic because they have such poor end reduction.

I also don't think it's worth slotting for both S/L and melee defense; in most cases that will be redundant. IMO a better choice would be to aim for 32.5% to S/L/E/NE or even 45% to S/L.

32.5% means that a single purple inspiration puts me (just) over the cap if I ever am in crunch time and a non-vet will be put squarely at it.

Second, S/L/M is easily picked up because of the overlap between the two, and the use of obliterations mostly because of its recharge. A more expensive build could soft-cap to SLEN, but that same build would probably be overkilling given that I'm talking about a tank who's already running at 8/+3 without problems. Finally, there are a number of foes who don't throw huge amounts of S/L around in melee - and those foes are still tripped up by the melee defence.

Thanks for your help everyone!

I have studied all your builds, tweak them a bit for my own tastes, and developed something similar to what New Dawn did - a build for now, another one for later

Thanks!

I won't comment on the IO sets used or recommended.

I am wondering; why focused accuracy? It's quite end heavy, and aside for PvP (and really not very useful to that end) I can't think of a bonus worth chasing to have it. No pyre mastery for fireball? Just not sure how a fire tank can have fun at 50 without it. (Ah, that's just my own preferences coming out)

Enjoy your tank, and welcome back!

Mostly because my experience with this tanks ends with Issue 6-7 or something like that :P When I rescued my tank I saw that it had FA, so when I respecced I got it again without thinking

I remember really wanting to pick Pyre Mastery a few years ago, but Conserve Power was really needed as far as I recall. Then picking FA and slotting endredux in some powers to offset it cost was easy

I wouldn't recommend something like the second build that New Dawn posted; as I mentioned to Talen Lee when he posted his build, all those Oblits are not an optimal choice, IMO. Having three attacks very poorly slotted for end reduction is a recipe for end woes, and you're missing an opportunity to get a decent amount of E/NE defense by slotting Eradication in your AoEs.

I'd also kick Focused Accuracy to the curb first thing. It has a huge end cost and you can get most of the benefits of it by slotting a couple of IOs at no end cost at all. Hasten would be a good replacement and would free up some slots for other things.

Here's what I would do with your build. I dropped TP and FA for Hasten and LBE, and replaced the Oblit sets with Eradication. Instead of FA, I slotted a Kismet +Acc and a Rectified Reticle +Percep, which will replace most of FA's benefits. Upgrading one Smashing Haymaker set to Kinetic Combat and slotting the two RR in Build Up will replace the S/L def lost with the Oblits, and allow you to get E/NE defense to 32.5% as well. Global recharge is lower with this build, but picking up Hasten will more than make up for it. And without three attacks underslotted for end reduction, you end use will be much better.

At the same time, I'd note that if you're having endurance woes because of oblit socketing you're not using consume enough.

I'd rather slot to reduce endurance woes to begin with; having to use Consume constantly to keep the blue bar filled is not my idea of fun or a particularly effective way of playing, IMO.

Besides, the build I posted gives substantial defense to Energy, the most common damage type after S/L. If you can get that and better end usage at the same time at a reasonable cost, why not do it?

What I do is take whats there and adapt it. I took Erendils build and adapted it to something like Talen Lee's.

It's all a suggestion.

He will honor his words; he will definitely carry out his actions. What he promises he will fulfill. He does not care about his bodily self, putting his life and death aside to come forward for another's troubled besiegement. He does not boast about his ability, or shamelessly extol his own virtues. - Sima Qian.

I agree, I have two Firetanks one with Conserve energy and one with Pyre Mastery. The one with conserve energy when doing things like farming is far healthier, less end woes to worry about, the one with Pyre mastery is more conceptual, although the powers are useful, endurance would be more of a concern but for concept. I could just as easily RotP for endurance as the concept is the Phoenix. Debt at 50 does nothing and debt badges have the Phoenix on them. If I didn't have all 6 I would of missed the point. If I could RotP every 86s dead bang I'd never play anything else

My build has better recharge for better offence, more Healing Flames, and perfectly good defence against melee, which is going to cover most e/n attacks that are any concern at all.

My greater point is: If you don't like using Consume, why even have the power? Myself, I see it as a fabulous power that gives you the luxury of a near-bottomless well of endurance - if managing your endurance is so onerous a task that putting a power into your rotations makes the whole experience unfun and ineffective, you have far, far bigger problems.

The second or two consume takes to work in is not going to get you killed nor is it going to get your puppy kicked.

or you could all stop aurguing over the whole thing by just getting the cardiac alpha.

Puppy-kicking hyperbole aside, funny how I never said anything remotely like "I don't like using Consume".

To clarify, I don't like having to depend on it--or any clicky end recovery power--to get through a battle, which is a far different thing.

Save teh Puppehs!

Really the thread is done maybe.

1) OP needs suggestions.

2) People suggest.

3) OP takes bits they like and keeps their own personal twist - their responsibility.

Job done.
