CoH on Mac Hardware?
Hey there. I'm currently considering purchasing a 2011 13" MacBook Pro, haven't decided between Early/Late editions. Main reason is for some of the software available on Macs.
However, I plan on bootcamping Windows 7 for some gaming, chiefly this game. Thusly, my question is less about whether or not Mac OSX runs it so much as whether or not the hardware can reasonably take it. I'm certain the 15" can due to its discrete graphics, but the data I've seen on the 13" is inconclusive. Can anyone shed any light so I can make a more informed decision? |
Will it run CoH? Yeah. Barely.
Will it run Ultra Mode? NO.
Then again, on a 13" postage stamp^H^H^H^screen, you aren't going to be able to enjoy Ultra Mode anyhoo.

Too bad my 50" Plasma is too-low a resolution for me...
That's my understanding, yes, that this model uses the sandy bridge architecture's intel HD graphics 3000. But I've also heard of things like Left 4 Dead running reasonably well. I wasn't expecting Ultra Mode, more just that the game runs smoothly enough I can move around and RP.

My 13" Macbook Pro was purchases circa August 2009. I'm running on a 2.26 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 GB of memory, and an Nvidia GeForce 9800 graphics card. I Ultra Mode enabled, but very few of the options actually active (really, I just wanted the glow on the glowing costume pieces). I have had very little trouble running it on this machine. Granted, I am pretty conscious to run very few, if any, programs in the background while playing.
However, this is a different model than the one you would be purchasing, so your mileage may vary. In my experience, the Macbook Pro is fine for the casual gamer who won't sweat the fact that he/she lacks the best graphics or lacks a huge screen with high res.
@Winter. Because I'm Winter. Period.

Yeah. The problem is your model has discrete graphics. So you're a completely different story. Still, I appreciate the feedback. Maybe I can get an older T2 model if nothing else

The online Apple Store often has steeply discounted previous-model refurbished 15" Macbook Pros, especially now after a new model was just introduced.
