SS/WP is cheap and effective.

SS is indeed very much your friend - solid single-target damage, awesome AoE - I'd pick it.
For your secondary, I'd actually recommend /NRG - SS/WP is a tried-and-true awesome combination, able to handle just about anything, but NRG is fun, comes with a god-mode emergency switch truly worthy of the name, and can fuel your blue-bar addiction without resorting to Cardiac - meaning Spiritual and more foot-stomping!
What about DM/FA? You might have to work a little on DEF, but 2 great heals, 2 ways to get back End, and a very good mix of AoE and ST
Be original and try a SS/FA brute.
Never seen one in game... (Maybe all of them are in AE buildings

I decided on SS/FA actually... it fit with a theme. Though I'm trying to find a "general killing" build but all I find are farm builds >.<
I want to make a melee... someone with general ability to survive with the point being to just beat the bejesus out of everything just 'cause I can. Are there any "Do Everything" brutes? You know like a Bots/Traps or Ill/rad of brutes? I don't quite care about min/maxing just because I want to destroy. I need something that can survive really well to 50th then do crazy things after IOing though doesn't cost 500 billion inf to IO.
